kyla on the peninsula. construction worker is in the hospital. >> after crews say that the trench he was working on it collapsed on top of them happened just before 9.30, this morning. at a private property on west 41st avenue in san mateo. it was partially buried in at least 10 feet of dirt. authorities say that rescue crews spent nearly an hour trying to get the man out and even use special equipment to extract him. he was rushed to the hospital where he is now in critical condition. no word yet on what caused that trench to collapse in the first place. police in san jose are asking the public for help in solving 2 cold case homicides. the first one happened in november of 2020 on orlando drive and east san jose officers say they found a man fatally shot while he was sitting in his car. they say the suspects drove off in this gold lexus. police are also asking for help identifying these 2 people. they are wanted in connection with a december 2018 fatal shooting near east virginia street in south 3rd stree

kyla. yeah, they do that a lot over at the embarcadero at the exploratorium.it's a great place to take a school field trip to i want to take a trip down to the tropics and show you what's going on here. tropical storm carlotta sitting right off the coast of baja, mexico. and as we zoom out here, you can see that it is actually going intensify and become a cat one, potentially cat 2 hurricane. now. >> staying away from land. so that part no problem. but you might notice that when we get this kind of activity, it does start to sense some moisture and some very unsettled conditions to the north as far away as california kind of funnel. some of that tropical moisture. and that's what we're seeing today as we zoom in and take a look at southern california. so interesting pattern and the problem with this isn't so much that it's rain. we'd love to have some rain right this time of year. it's the dry lightning that comes along with these storm systems that really don't bring a whole lot of rain. they bring dry lightning and that brings fire danger. so we don't have t

also check in with kyla to see what's happening with the weather.eah, they're taking a look at our suture tower camera. you can see that we do have some marine layer that is on the move at this hour. so you see a little less of the city in the bay and a little more of the clouds. >> tomorrow we'll likely see a little less marine layer as it compresses a at least for those inland. we're going to see temperatures that could get up into triple digit heat. so just be prepared for that. you see a spot like antioch, 100 degrees, very close to it in concord and livermore 101 expected in morgan hill. obviously a little warmer around the bay itself. we should see some 80's, but nothing compared to some of that inland heat and some low to mid-nineties up in the north bay to to just be ready for now. this heat doesn't have a lot of staying power, but certainly tuesday and then wednesday. but by the time we get to thursday, friday, saturday, we're talking low 90's. instead and next weekend, latter half of the weekend. even just dropping down to the 80's to you.

but let's get the latest now from meteorologist kyla grogan. >> hey there. yeah. so it is a busy time in the pacific happen. say the atlantic is pretty quiet right now. there's have one thing they're watching for possibility of development. but the pacific has been the place where the action is. obviously we had the hurricane that went past hawaii. now it is tropical storm and we have tropical depression gilma. that's the one that i'm concerned about as we get into friday and then they're really right now. we're just remnants left of hector. having said that, that's gonna bring a little more rain there. way was to get to the weekend. now the good news is, is that gilman has slowed down. and the reason is that that warm water that it was in becomes cooler. as you get closer to hawaii and that takes away some of the power and allows for that slowing down of the system. so it is a tropical depression. you can see sustained winds just at 35 miles per hour. unfortunately, still going to bring quite a bit of rain to place that just had an awful lot of rain and that can

let's talk weather here as we get a live look at sfo >> and kyla is here to unpack what's going on? what you that's right. so as we go through this warmest day of the week, temperatures certainly getting up there in spots. livermore right now. 97 degrees. cocker just popped up to 98, but obviously you can see even in san francisco, we are well above average here. so another warm day for us. and if we look at the comparison from yesterday to today, live or work at up to 94 degrees yesterday and you can see all throughout the day today running just a little bit warmer. it flattens out the top there because it just doesn't have any more room in my chart, but were actually reading about 4, 5 degrees warmer right now with these temperatures than we were this time yesterday. storm tracker 4 showing you that the marine layer has compressed a bit, but it is still out there and, you know, we are under a ridge right now. high pressure that is going to flatten out once we get into the next few days. but we've got today and tomorrow to get through these above average temperatures for so today,

but kyla things have been so rough just a few hours north and east of us. >> yeah, that's right. and in fact, i want to take a look at the weather right now. 106 degrees. and you can see red bluff right now at 104. so obviously, that's very difficult firefighting, whether they've also had a little wind there between about 10 11 miles per hour out of the south. so triple digit heat is going to be with them. not just today, but right through the week and things will start to pull back a little bit as we get into the weekend. we had quite a day yesterday with triple digit heat in walnut creek. in livermore. you can see temperatures up there. 1, 0, 1, 1, 0, 2, 97 in concord yesterday. 94 in santa rosa. little better in san jose. and oakland, though, got up to eighty-four degrees. we're in the heat of the day right now. and here we are again, right? flirting with 100 degrees, not quite getting there, but getting awfully close to 98 right now in fairfield, antioch. and you can see livermore's. well, we're very close to it in concord at 97. 64 in san francisco. so big difference. and ag

we'll see what they're going to turn into with our meteorologist kyla grogan.irection that going to be going in. the kind of has some concerned. now there is a hurricane now. remember, we talked about this earlier is a tropical storm and there to invest, which are basically areas investigation that are expected to get a little bit stronger. the one that i'm concerned about is invest 91 e. but let's start first with hurricane guilbeau which you can see is right now. a category 2 hurricane slated to become a category 4 as it stays out in the ocean. then we have invest 91 e and if you put the spaghetti plots in motion here you see where it's going very close to hawaii. so that's why my eye is on that. i'm not as concerned with something just stays out in the open ocean and is no threat to land. but this one is going to come very close to hawaii and at the very least is likely to bring some pretty significant rainfall and wind there. now, hawaii has been in a drought so that could be a good thing if they don't get too much too quickly. so the next 48 hours, that wi

kyla. yeah, that's right. now i'm happy to say as far as air quality is concerned, we're actually doing pretty good. obviously, that fire yesterday up in marin county. and that is now 90% contained. so you're seeing a lot more green dots that have returned here. and that's that's good to see, right? we have to keep an eye on this as we go across our fire season. and so far we're doing ok today. also want to talk about temperatures. so today we're going to get a little bit warmer than yesterday, but not a whole lot. a couple degrees. you can see where about 3 to 5 degrees warmer in livermore today is that yellow line yesterday that got up to 86 degrees. so today expecting more to be round that 90 91 degree mark. but other than that, we are what i'm calling in the zone, right? we are zone all right now. and you can see that when you look at these wind barbs, nothing dramatic happening here. you just see that really kind of subtle west to east direction, low-pressure to the north, high pressure to the south and w

so tonight's the night, kyla, we got to check it out.ing to i saw it last night and the moon last night was and say, yeah, it was beautiful. and that's just the beginning of tonight and tomorrow night. i think we'll see you too. >> and the good news is we got a blue skies out there, which means we should have a good shot of it tonight. so you can take a look outside right now. san jose, lots of sunshine out there. skies looking really good. so yeah, here's the thing about super moons. when the moon goes around the earth, it's not a circle. a perfect circle. it's an ellipse. and when it's a little bit closer to us, that's when it appears bigger and brighter. this is also a sturgeon moon, which is when some of our indigenous tribes, particularly the great lakes region, they would fish for sturgeon because they were plentiful. and then, of course, it is also a supermoon blue moon, which means it's an extra moon. basically, it's a l thing when you get that together happening, the supermoon and the bloom. and so it will be one of the largest

potential for dry lightning today and thunder roars go indoors and see a flash dash inside wright kyla. yeah, that's right. all that good and the reason we're looking out for that today >> is that we have a little monsoonal moisture, a little bit of tropical moisture as well. we have a hurricane in the pacific is hurricane car. lot of now a category one set to just roam out to sea. so side causing problems for us. but we are getting cloud cover moisture, all of that kind of tapping some of that tropical moisture and you can see is being dragged in around the high pressure that's also allowed us to warm up. and now we're starting to see some of that lightning that is kicking up as well here. i just saw a little bit of it. looks like we're yet there it is right to the east of fresno. so this is not something we're likely going to see a lot of. but we just need to monitor it because the concern is that it can touch off wildfires. and as we take a look here, you can certainly see that we're starting to see a little bit of a cloud cover that's rolling in from this. and that will continue as

and meteorologist kyla grogan is here now with more on debbie. yeah, report.en a loss of heard one story about a tree down on a trailer on a mobile home that unfortunately there was a fatality there. so we're still just kind of getting. >> reports of this as it happens. but this is tropical storm now tropical storm debby. it did come ashore as a cat. one hurricane that was early this morning at 07:00am east coast. time. this is a loop of it. you can see where it came ashore is just north of cedar key, right in the bend of florida. there. and of course, that front right quadrant is where you get the most storm surge and you tend to get the higher wind as well. and that is where they had some of the biggest problems and flooding and also some of the fatalities that happened. so here it is right now 30 miles southeast of el dos to georgia. so obviously it is overland right now. still tropical storm sustained winds about 50 miles per hour. still very powerful and 994 millibars moving rather slowly, really to the northeast at just 6 miles per hour. and what's kind

we're going to see what the weather's doing today with meteorologist kyla grogan has looking outside.. pretty beautiful day out there. but i will say we're getting a little toasty in some inland spots right now. so we'll take a look at that san jose right now. one of the spots, it's out about 90 degrees, not bad. you know, a few other spots are getting up there above that. 94 95 mark. and these are the trends for the next few days. so for those who are dealing with the heat today inland, you've got to day tomorrow and then we're going to bring it down the hill and we'll have, you know, low 90's, not bad. we should be upper 80's. so it's still a little above average. but still not bad. but i have to give it to dublin today. a spot that's expected to get up to about 98 degrees. give you the extra large ice coffee today for you. make sure you're taking good care of yourself out there right now. doubling rate at 97 degrees. you can see we're at 93 in morgan hill. >> just 57 out of half moon bay. big difference in those temperatures. but we're getting up there in spots like fairfield right
