the median home price in the san jose metro area is now $2 million, becoming the first region in the nation to hit that price mark. nbc bay area's thom jensen talked to a bay area real estate expert who tells us what this means for buyers and sellers. the latest national report on home sales is just what home buyers did not want to hear. it shows prices have gone up across the bay area, likely driven by same old dynamics. first is supply and demand, and the second thought is location, location, location. one location that's seen some of the highest prices right now is the san jose area. in the third quarter of 2023, san jose home prices jumped 11.6%, according to the national association of realtors. the median single family home price is now $2,008,000, and after a brief slide, san francisco home prices also jumped 8.5% in the same period to $1.5 million. at the same time, we're seeing more supply come on the market, which is telling us that sellers are also going to be willing to maybe pay a little bit higher than what they're doing for their current monthly mortgage payment. and that's important because the seller of t

occasionally some fog around the inner bay, but that is the band of smoke which has been dropping southward over the bay area over the last couple of days. right now, looking at moderate air quality levels around the bay area, as you see there on the map from the south bay up towards the north bay. again, a lot of this smoke has been coming down the coast from the oregon and washington wildfires. and through the day tomorrow, not much change in the wind. so looks like we're going to see more hazy skies into tomorrow. but by monday, the winds pick up a bit more out of the west, less of that northwest wind down the coast, which should hopefully lead to some clearing skies and a little improvement in that air quality by the time we get to monday. so temperatures staying mild this weekend. we'll talk about when some 90s may return to that forecast inland. and we have our full forecast coming up in a few minutes. back to you all right rob thank you. and this could speed up your commute. you'll soon be able to travel from san francisco to san jose in less than an hour. federal and state leaders got a special ride

the bay. temperatures in the north bay not quite as high as other inland parts of the bay area. mostly in the 80s until you go farther and farther north well into the 90s around hilbert by tomorrow afternoon. as we look ahead to the weekend, which it is never too early to look ahead, looking good, going to be cloudy but you are not going to see much sunshine over the course of the next several days with temperatures only getting into the low 60s on the afternoon so layer up appropriately. it will be warmer across the bay in fremont. fremont festival of the arts is happening this weekend, saturday. the one half of the weekend with temperatures in the mid-80s. the drop of a sunday to around 80 degrees for a high temperature. if you're looking forward to maybe a break from the inland heat there is good news in the eight to 14 day outlook. the strongest signal to above normal temperatures getting nudged a little was away from the bay area as we head toward the midpoint of the month of august. that is a little ways down the line. there are some ups and downs but in general, inland, w

they were in the 90s for inland parts of the bay area. e's the fog spreading across the bay, big push into the inland valleys by early tomorrow morning. it will retreat to the coast heading towards midday and then temperatures will warm up. it won't take too long for that fog to dissipate for inland parts of the bay area. once it does, temperatures heat up from what's going to be a normal start. let's look at our forecast low temperatures for tonight. we'll start in the santa clara valley where temperatures will be around 60 degrees in the santa clara valley, near san jose and los gatos, upper 50s morgan hill, the warmest spots a little above 60 degrees, all these numbers close to normal and will continue in that vein through the weekend forecast. low temperatures won't change much, but there will be some change to our highs. one more day of above average but not ridiculous temperatures inland, low 90s in santa rosa, otherwise mostly 80s for the north bay. the hottest spots, east of the oakland hills into the low to mid-90s and the hottest

it will not be the greatest night for it in the bay area but it will not be terrible. ould be worse. temperatures in the 50s across the bay area. better conditions after 11:30 pm. after the moon sets. get away from the city lights. let's look at what it will be like outside at 2:00 in the morning. we will see the clouds continuing to make their way into the area and fill into the santa clara valley. we are already seeing the clouds fill in and continuing to remain thick. your best case scenario, i think i will go further north. on the top of maybe mount tam your head could be above the clouds and you could see clear conditions. if you want to guarantee you will see some activity head further inland. away from the clouds and the influence of the onshore flow and you will see more of the comfortable heat. temperatures will be in the 60s further inland. upper 50s thanks to the cloud coverage acting like a jacket. we also continue to see the area of low pressure that brought us a cooldown today. the low pressure system is picking up wind along the coastal communities. bring

but it's been a beautiful day all across the bay area. an absolutely gorgeous time lapse here at black mountain. it doesn't even look like the camera is moving because yes, there are a little bit of cloud coverage. couple of clouds out there but it's not doing all too much in terms of blocking the sunshine. the sunshine will continue across the bay area throughout the day. it's actually going to be a little less foggy tonight as well. right now though. again, you can actually see the golden gate in the distance for forecast. that is awesome. it's not fog right now. we are seeing plenty of sunshine even here in san francisco, but that doesn't mean our temperatures are too hot. that's the good news today. even with the sunny skies, we're looking at a bit more of that onshore flow. that's keeping us nice, cool and comfortable temperatures in oakland in the upper 60s. san francisco we're in the low 60s, in fact, so don't let the sunshine fool you. jacket always necessary here. places further inland like concord, mid 80s, santa rosa, low 80s up

it is a busy weekend in the bay area, and we're finally feeling cooler weather. here's a live look outside. sunny in the south bay. wet and cloudy. san francisco there in san francisco. look at oakland right there. some cloud cover there as well. yeah north of san francisco. a light rain came down in mill valley, but it kept coming. came down for hours. felt like more than it was. i think rob is here with the details on that and everything else going on around here. what you can officially measure it. we've moved past the drizzle and mist. all right. we did get some light rain there in mill valley, the totals coming up in a moment, but what a clash of our microclimates here on this august weekend. you got the sunshine and san jose and heavy drizzle and light rain closer to san francisco. mount tam and mill valley, close to where the terry brought us that video. you have about six hundredths of an inch of rain. more of that down into san francisco .02. just enough to measure. not much inland, though, as he had the clear skies and more sunshine. again, it's the low

let's get you a check of the forecast now taking a live look outside across the bay area from our mount tam camera. you can >> nice little layer of fog there. just streaming right through the bay national weather service saying there's a potential for some dry lightning today when thunder roars go indoors and of course, see a flash dash do we really need to worry about this? it's not a big worry, but it is a possibility. so we have to keep an eye out and that's good advice. i like those little whether palm sets you guys have those down. it's great. but yeah, it mainly are the issue. of course, our temperatures and we're going to lovely conditions. but you'll notice the clouds and fog, as you mentioned, the view from mount tam a pious and we've got the clouds and fog. it will keep things look cool. compared to how hot it's been for the during the last heat wave last month. this is pretty mild outside right now. no triple digits. it's only 94 in antioch, 88 novato. 94 santa rosa. >> compared to triple digits. that's not bad. 83 in san jose and that is cooler than yesterday town. 9 degrees

we'll start in the north bay where temperatures are going to be at the coolest across the bay area, especially along the coast, above 50 for bodega bay. low 50s for santa rosa and petaluma. east of the oakland hills in the mid to low 60s. not bad after the temperatures in the 90s today. free air conditioning overnight. temperatures in the santa clara valley also mostly in the low 60s to begin the day tomorrow. morgan hill where lows are going to be in the upper 50s. you'll make up for it, highs in the mid-90s tomorrow. a mix of 80s and 90s across the bay area for inland temperatures. inland in the east bay, you'll be the hot spots. low to mid-90s. a mix of 60s and 70s for san francisco and oakland. temperatures down the peninsula in the low 80s. the north bay only upper 70s for napa and vallejo. as temperatures return to near normal, you may be kind of welcoming that news with almost glee. and there are signs in the long range data as we zoom out wide once again. that kind of weather pattern is sticking around. this is the 8 to 14-day outlook from the climate prediction center. for much of cal

mostly 50s by early tomorrow morning across the entire bay area. warmest locations to the east into the delta in the low 60s. temperatures in the north bay will be in the cool spots dipping down by early tomorrow. the north bay valley is always efficient in collecting some of the cooler air. temperatures warm up in the low 90s. mostly 80s for the north bay. 60s and 70s in san francisco. you go farther to the east, it is still going to be warmer than normal. low to mid-90s. then you get into the santa clara valley. into the 90s for morgan hill. which for the middle of august is not bad at all. temperatures will back down slightly below average as we would hit the second half of the weekend, continuing into early next week. for the bay area and most of california, most of the west coast, the 8 to 14-day outlook center showing a good chance of cooler than normal temperatures through the back half of august. this will last for a decent amount of time. take a look at your seven-day forecast. kind of averaging out of temperatures in the middle portions o

the bay. the coolest spots in the north bay aren't dropping too far down in the lower 50s. the difference is tomorrow's high temperatures which for inland parts of the bay areabe mostly in the 70s for the north bay, 76 degrees in santa rosa, a good half dozen degrees below normal, mid-70s across the board for the north bay with temperatures on the warm end of the spectrum only in the low 80s far inland in the east bay. temperatures around the bay, a mix of 60s and 70s, 60s along the coast with occasional mist and drizzle and widespread fog. san jose 81 degrees, a whopping one degree below your average high temperature for tomorrow. temperatures will warm up a bit for the second half of the weekend. now let's look at the ten-day temperature outlook. we'll use livermore as our example because it usually has more fluctuation. it's going to be a little roller coaster ride but not a wild swing in temperatures. the warmest days will be about 3 degrees above average by tuesday of next week and then we drop off again by next thursday and friday. there are signs towards the tail end of the seven-day forecast -- the ten-day forecast rather that we'll see a more substa

all right around the bay area. temperatures are going to start cool tomorrow. he 50's 60's in the san francisco 50's 60's along the coastline inside the bay are looking 74 millbrae about 79 degrees. sunny and san carlos. 81 in mountain view, the south bay 80's and 90's tomorrow afternoon. so still a little bit on the hot side. not triple digits inland, but we're looking about 96 in lemore. 95 in pleasanton course you get toward the central valley toward brett one in discovery bay. those numbers likely to be up in the triple digits there 101 in vacaville. 99 in fairfield about 81 in vallejo. but here we go. over the next few days, things are going to change. high pressure is going. we can kind of get out the way in. well, the temperatures are going to start to cool off ever so slightly as we get in the weekend. there you go sunday into the middle of next week. all these temperatures running probably beliw the average for this time of year. so it's going to be a nice cool middle of the month here in august. let's just hope it stays that way. there's some hint that

now for a live look across the bay area this morning. it is monday august 5th, and it is foggiest as we like to say, jess >>>we kicked off this morning cool and cloudy throughout the bay area, but heading into this afternoon. goodness gracious, we're going to warm up fast, especially off to the east bay with 90s anywhere from walnut creek. all the way over into concord. we're also seeing 90s off near antioch this afternoon upper 80s near livermore. we have 80s and 70s in the forecast throughout the north bay today, with 60s along our coastline. i want to spend some time down in the south bay real fast. san jose this afternoon topping off at 82 degrees. watch what happens as we head into the next couple of days. tomorrow, the national weather service has issued a heat advisory for our friends throughout the santa clara valley, stretching all the way down into gilroy and past that, closer to santa cruz, too. it's going to be a hot day for us tomorrow all throughout the bay area, but right now, the national weather service is definitely keep

and there's so much happening in the bay area this weekend of course the bay bridge series is one of e headlining events. so let's get a check now of the bay area forecast with meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, zach. that's right. i did have that forecast. i do have it in my head, but i, i managed to skip right through it. low 70s today there over in oakland by about 4:00. but 107 first pitch 70 degrees with the winds kicking up throughout the day at about 13 miles an hour. there's the system that really was featured yesterday, even as far south as the bay area, with a little bit of rain, the humidity. but as for today, waking up to that low cloud deck, a little bit of a breeze out there. a beautiful day on the way. it is 59, san francisco, 65, in oakland. so the numbers still in the 60s here with the cloud cover and that higher relative humidity overnight. we'll look for a pretty typical day here. and you can see from our roof camera that marine layer is compressed close to the ground as high pressure builds in. and that weight of the atmosphere really pressing the clouds to the surf
