a woman and one of her dogs were killed in a house fire early this morning in mill valley.om jensen with what happened. we were at the fire scene earlier this morning, and a man in his early 60s told us that it was his girlfriend who died in this fire this morning. that was first reported at about 1238, in the 700 block of alta vista road, where neighbors called 911 reporting flames coming from the three bedroom house. it's a twisty, narrow and steep road. the fire crews from southern marin fire district had to navigate, arriving nine minutes later. engine four arrived at approximately 12:47 a.m. to find advanced fire conditions, with a large amount of smoke and fire coming from the front of the building and from a window to the right side of the yard of the structure. engine four immediately went into rescue mode and located a victim in the back bedroom. firefighters also found one dog deceased and they rescued three more dogs. the name or age of the woman who was killed have not been yet released. the fire was contained before one this morning. the marin county sheriff's

a private preschool facing eviction filed a legal claim against the mill valley school district. the terra marin school hopes to recover almost $2.5 million in expenses. the mill valley preschool says most of the money it invested for repairs of the district owned building. the district recently sent the preschool an eviction notice for defaulting on its rent. the school wants the money back that it spent on repairs. >> we're monitoring a developing story in orange county, where eight firefighters are in the hospital this morning after their fire truck overturned on a freeway in irvine. six of the firefighters are listed in critical condition. the others suffered minor injuries. the crew was returning from a 12 hour shift battling the wildfire burning in orange and riverside counties when they came on a ladder that had fallen off another car. the fire truck swerved, hit a guardrail and flipped. >> as you can imagine, this is a very traumatic experience. it's something, you know, i've been a fire chief for ten years, and, these are the toughest things to have to have to deal with.

it happened overnight in mill valley. this is on alta vista road in tam valley. crews tried to save a woman and her dogs trapped in one of the back rooms of this home. sadly, the woman and one of her dogs died. the motorcade of vice presidential nominee tim walz was involved in a crash involving several vehicles. walz was on his way to a labor day event in milwaukee this afternoon on an interstate. they say that a car slammed into the press van from behind, and that's when the van lurched forward, hit another car. we're told no one was seriously hurt. campaign staff says that the car carrying walz was not involved in that crash, and investigation is ongoing. a gunman opened fire at a west indian american day celebration in new york. police say the man stood up on a parade barrier and then shot into the crowd of thousands of people. this is in brooklyn. six people were shot, two are in critical condition. so far, no arrests yet. now, hundreds of thousands of caribbean immigrants and their descendants have settled in brooklyn, which began hosting this parade in the

and up here for the north bay. 93 in santa rosa, 85 in mill valley. okay, let's take it back to hurricane helene. and right now, this storm showing no signs of weakening. currently 130 mile per hour winds. category four storm central pressure, 942 millibars. so the lower that number goes, the stronger the storm. and look at this eye wall. it's developed over the past 18 hours. this is an extreme sign here of that strengthening. when you get that eyewall as well developed as it is. and this is going to continue to move off towards the north tonight. somewhere between tallahassee and perry, florida, for that landfall. winds of 130. storm surge that could be up to 20ft. so that's basically from the ground looking right up 20ft. there's just no escaping this wall of water that's on the way. so that's why people are heeding those evacuation warnings as that big bend area here is under that highest storm surge from cedar key to just off the coastline here of tallahassee, florida. we're going to have more details here tonight. but on that 7-day forecast, you

it won't be overly warm in mill valley for charlie here.not have to revisit the golden gate, temperatures topping out there in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. take it easy on your furry friends, but the real heat is farther inland, one more day of 90s with some of the hottest spots up to 100 degrees in the afternoon. that happens after we lose fog early in the bay. the fog doesn't push too far into the east bay, but it makes its way into the santa clara valley and valleys of the north bay. that puts the brakes on the warm-up an hour or two and slows down the warm-up enough your temperatures won't be quite as hot as maybe interior portions of the east bay, 100 degrees in antioch. the farther inland in the santa clara valley it's going to be hotter, around 100 in morgan hill, 92 degrees in san jose, 10 degrees above normal, still flirting with 100 degrees east of the oakland hills. those numbers will return to within 2 or 3 degrees of average by saturday and sunday, another day of low 90s for much of the north bay, one more day of 70s in

. >> new tonight at 11, a mess earlier in mill valley. police say a truck crashed into a fire hydrant at the intersection of east blytheville avenue and camino alto and caused a geyser to shoot up more than 30 feet in the air. police say the same truck also hit a traffic signal and was involved in another crash. further up on camino alto. no one was injured in any of these crashes. the water was eventually turned off and no word on whether or not that driver was arrested. meantime, in san francisco, a crash on market street left an suv on its side earlier tonight, video shared on the citizen app shows some significant damage to the front of that suv. san francisco fire telling us that car crashed into a railing at a bus stop near 5th street before ending up on its side. only the driver was in the vehicle and they were taken to the hospital. community services were temporarily rerouted this evening to try to avoid this crash on market. but service have since resumed. >> berkeley police say a pedestrian was second in the hospital with a hea

got up to 80 in napa, down towards mill valley. we're at 69. so numbers moving in the right direction tomorrow. by the time we get to wednesday. the real interesting thing that i'm following right now is two different cold fronts that are going to be dropping down. so that's just going to ensure that temperatures don't really heat up a whole lot. but the other thing with this is we're going to see the wind kick up northwest gusts 15 to 30, maybe even higher in the mountains. so let me give you the hourly look at this and you'll see wednesday morning it's really not that bad. but by wednesday afternoon we could see those gusts 20 to maybe about 30mph for a lot of the bay area. some of the mountains may even get in on gusts here for the north bay, east bay and peninsula of up to 50. so we're going to continue to watch that wind on wednesday. we may get some advisories that are issued. all in all, wind should start to calm down thursday, friday and saturday. and you'll see the inland temperatures. we're in the 80s all the way through sunday next w

now this happened in mill valley kron 4 charles clifford has more. >> well, this is a very tragic story in which one woman and her dog have died. if there's a silver lining here, it's that crews were able to keep this fire from spreading, according to the southern marin fire district around 12, 30 monday morning. crews responded here to the 700 block of altavista road on reports of a structure fire upon arrival. they found heavy smoke and flames coming from this home. the fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm with crews from timber on in. sandra fell called in to assist. firefighters were able to enter the back of the house and discovered a woman in a bedroom. >> the victim sustained significant burns with obvious signs of death. andrus pronounced deceased at the scene. the victim was a female. a total of 4 dogs are rescued from the fire. unfortunately, one dog was deceased. >> fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. >> never want to have anything had like this when your neighbor's monday morning, neighbors along this quiet street were shocked to

in ukiah 94 down here towards sonoma and 80 in mill valley. so with this recent heat, how do things look in the extended. i don't see right now any kind of big time heat waves coming our way, at least in the next ten days. as you'll see in this trend, we will see it pop back up to 96 on friday in livermore. but for the upcoming weekend, upper 80s to low 90s. and then it should gradually drop after that. so i think this is at least good in the near term. we'll get some warm temperatures in here, but doesn't look like days and days on end of 100 right there in san francisco. we're at 69 on wednesday. that will be better up to 74 friday and upper 60s and low 70s this weekend. and for the inland valleys, 86 on wednesday is going to feel much better. and already looking ahead towards yes, saturday, sunday it's right back at it. it's going to be good. we're also taking a look at the tropics coming up at 6:00 tonight. if you're doing any traveling, you're going to want to see where this tropical system is headed. and it's the first week of fall. it's

francisco, and for the north bay numbers in the 90s from santa rosa down into novato, upper 80s in mill valleywednesday has a chance of being slightly hotter for inland areas as we start the day warmer. this heat kind of builds upon itself for some of the inland areas through about thursday. we'll still see the chance of those upper 90s to about 100 degrees now. by friday, temperatures starting to come down a bit and they should come down more moving forward through the weekend. high pressure starting to relent a little bit from the west coast. we get this trough bringing some rain to the pacific northwest that will kick on the ocean air conditioning again and lead to some cooler changes by the end of the week. but for now, 80s in reach around san francisco for a couple of days, cooling as we head into the weekend. 90s and triple digits in reach inland for three days, and then back into those 80s and low 90s saturday and back to the mid seconds by this time next week. so we have to hold on for a few days here. three days. yeah. three day heat coming our way. thanks, rob. up next, new pictures

the mid 60s and in redwood city, 79 degrees 71, in downtown san francisco and up to 96 in ukiah, mill valley today, 83 degrees. and we've been, of course, watching the weather for kickoff for our first home game of the season. it's going to be nice out there, upper 70s if you're going, and we probably won't need a jacket because we only come down to the upper 60s by the end of the game. going into the next few weeks, our next few days, i should say we're getting ready for a change in our weather pattern into the rest of the week, and some cooler air coming in as these lows dip farther south. we're going to see those changes in napa, looking at the temperatures that will be mostly in the seconds and 80s. so looking forward to a little taste of fall in some spots. but we are still hot today with some of our inland valleys in the low 90s, but about a 10 degrees drop in temperatures tomorrow, and a few more degrees for the middle of the week in san francisco. we're pretty much holding it steady here with highs near 70 degrees throughout the rest of the week. back to you. thanks a lot, kari. let'
