virginia continental regiments in 1778, but that august, the three brigades, three state brigades, woodford mule and briggs and scotts contained at least 162 black soldiers. and i say at least because there are solid indications that the roster entitled the return of the -- in the army enumerates only the enslaved men serving as soldiers, not the free blacks. those three brigades totaling 4157 rank and file making made or showed that those black soldiers formed 3.9% of the whole. now moving ahead, three years, the two virginia regiments that joined major general green before march 1781 contained a number of black soldiers, including some of the autumn 1780. chesterfield levies of 913 conscripted men at least 56 6.1% were of african descent. similarly, the april 1781 draft who joined gaskin also included african-americans. and here you see actually an image of one of gaskins men. whil numbers are unknown, fly five black veterans pensions show service under gas that year they were frances bundy, john cheevers, william jackson, bennett, mickey and william wedge bear. and i include them because
