antioch barber brian martin has been cutting hair at his antioch square barber shop for the past 33 years. he's frustrated by the filth, vandalism, and violence that's recently swept the city. we keep an eye on our customers, especially the older ones, as they come and go. we did have a shooting here a few weeks ago. shootings have become all too common in antioch. the city saw more than 15 shootings in september alone, more than police say they can remember in such a short period of time. the police department is taking this very serious, as is the council. tonight, the city council will consider authorizing $500,000 to help its staff strapped police department pay for immediate reinforcements. antioch officers would get double time, and officers from outside agencies would receive up to $200 an hour to patrol the neighborhoods where the rash of shootings have taken place. my view on it is, yes, it's expensive, but you can't put a price on public safety. this just helps in the immediate in terms of creating a presence where people think twice about doing anything stupid. the mayor says i

but let's start off over an antioch right now. if you're going from antioch to concord, using 4, well, it's only a 12 minute commute. taking a look right now at some of our drive times 5.80, castro valley to oakland, 14 minutes 101. sunnyvale to san mateo. it's a 16 minute commute. there. if you're using 17 santa cruz to los gatos. 21 minutes 8.80, san jose to milpitas only an 8 minute drive. not too bad this morning. looking over towards the east bay. a little bit dublin to fremont. it's a 14 minute commute. their 101 san jose to woodside 30 minute commute. walnut creek to the maze. it's 12 minutes there. and then you've got 8.18, o p just to stanley and row 19 minutes. a live look over at the drive times for crockett to the maze. we're looking at an 18 minute commute there. so not too bad. but once you get over to that bay bridge, it does somewhat look like a parking lot. those metering lights are turning on a little bit earlier. normally they turn on about 6 o'clock or so. so right now it's 5.48, stop and go traffic there. but
