antioch barber brian martin has been cutting hair at his antioch square barber shop for the past 33 years. he's frustrated by the filth, vandalism, and violence that's recently swept the city. we keep an eye on our customers, especially the older ones, as they come and go. we did have a shooting here a few weeks ago. shootings have become all too common in antioch. the city saw more than 15 shootings in september alone, more than police say they can remember in such a short period of time. the police department is taking this very serious, as is the council. tonight, the city council will consider authorizing $500,000 to help its staff strapped police department pay for immediate reinforcements. antioch officers would get double time, and officers from outside agencies would receive up to $200 an hour to patrol the neighborhoods where the rash of shootings have taken place. my view on it is, yes, it's expensive, but you can't put a price on public safety. this just helps in the immediate in terms of creating a presence where people think twice about doing anything stupid. the mayor says i

now to a big decision expected tonight to address the ongoing violence in antioch. the city is considering approving a plan to pay officers double time to work ot. it would also pay a premium for officers from outside agencies to address the spike in shootings. our jodi hernandez spent her day looking into the story for us and jodi. this comes after more than a dozen shootings in the past month. there. that's right, the city of antioch has had a rash of shootings, more than 15 shootings took place here in the month of september. many of those in the sycamore square area of town. and many of those incidents, numerous rounds were fired and one incident, 50 shots were fired. the antioch police department says it just doesn't have adequate staffing to handle the workload required to saturate those high crime areas. you may recall the department lost a lot of officers because of a police corruption investigation. so tonight, the city council will consider authorizing $500,000 to pay for immediate reinforcements. antioch officers would get paid double time and officers fr

a crime wave in antioch, a record number of stolen cars, 1400 cars have been stolen in antioch so farar. this month alone, the city is averaging five a day. look at the numbers here. antioch police have recovered 160 stolen cars this month. but also tell us that more than half of those were actually stolen from other cities. we talked with a woman whose hyundai was stolen from her driveway in brentwood and found, stripped and totaled in antioch. whatever they could take, they did. they took the battery, they took the fuzes. they took they stripped the trunk down to metals and no spare tire, no jack. the steering column is completely gone. it's very disturbing. i don't even know what to think of it. i've been with the department for 20 right around 25 years, and i've never seen the vehicle theft this high. police say they are doing their best to tackle the problem. they've arrested 113 car thieves so far this year. but are urging drivers just to take every precaution possible. well, beware of the beetle. an invasive bug is boring itself into trees, raising some red flags in san jose, t
