let's check in with cbs news meteorologist andrew kozak for more on what to expect. andrew?good evening, jericka. we're going to start with that soaker of a storm across the west coast pf by the end of this week, even before that, ten inches of rain, maybe even more from california to oregon to washington. it is along an atmospheric river. let's talk about it because it continues to bring in more of these storms similar to rivers on land, it carries moisture in the upper atmosphere. and in this case it's all across the pacific ocean, slamming into the west coast, and the mountains, well, the topography there plays a part. forces that moisture up. heavy rain in the valleys, heavy snow in the higher elevations, flooding and even mudslides. something we may deal with. so we have snow across much of those areas. these are warnings, watches, snw advisories, winter storm watches, even a hazardous sea warning as those storms slam in across the west coast with gusts over 40 miles per hour. finally tonight much-needed rain wednesday night into thursday for the east coast a little fur

let's check in with cbs news meteorologist andrew kozak to find out if there's relief on the way. >>> short answer, yes. after dealing with not only drought but wildfires across new jersey, we're finally getting measurable precipitation in the northeast. for sunday night into monday. not going to completely help the situation, but it certainly is going to give us some relief. meantime to colorado now. area of low pressure pulling out across nebraska. each one of these represents a storm or blizzard report, in some cases three to four feet of snow. southern colorado and northern new mexico, dry and sunny conditions for the week ahead. means we're going to have good melting. southern california, winds finally dying down across los angeles. they were over 75 miles per hour for those fires. at a glance the midsection of the country on sunday looking really nice. of course a lot in the northeast looking forward to that first measurable rain in over 40 days. jericka? >> andrew kozak, thank you. >>> today the white house announced that president joe biden and president-elect donald trump wil

details on what weather conditions you can expect over the next few days, let's check in with andrew kozak with more on that. >> good evening, jericka. a busy week ahead, the northwest more showers, thunderstorms, and snow in the higher elevations are still fueled by that atmospheric river. from the sierra nevada this week with adiurnal two to three pete of snow and gusts of 55 miles per hour. we're going to see more of this tuesday and wednesday. tuesday we'll have mountain snow. pacific northwest will have scattered rain. for the mid section of the country, high pressure in place giving you a pretty decent forecast. tuesday is fine in the south but the northeast will deal with morning rain. wednesday is much better across the northeast, though cooler. snow north of chicago on wednesday, mountain snow but a bit of a clearout wednesday afternoon. the big day for thursday, less than two-thirds of the country looking pretty dry, but we will deal with rain and snow across the northwest. >> andrew kozak, thank you. >>> here's something to look forward to this thanksgiving. your holiday fees sh

from tides to storms, time to check in with cbs news meteorologist andrew kozak. an andrew?yeah, david, glad she is okay. a king tide, that's formed by several factors. let's talk about it. waxing gibbits phase of the moon, 98.3% full. that's what we saw thursday over oregon. we also were at perigee which means the orbit of the moon was closest to the earth. of course we also had strong cold fronts moving through. another just about to enter the pacific northwest with heavy rain across the coast and several areas under winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories. on sunday we could have a soaking rain from portland to seattle, higher elevations including idaho and montana could have an additional foot of snow. we're also watching the southern plains, oklahoma and texas could be looking at severe weather including isolated tornadoes and very dry once again up and down the east coast. elevated fire danger once again in the northeast. a lack of rain, low humidity, and continued gusty winds into the week ahead. david? >> all right. thank you. >>> straight ahead on the "c

let's check in with cbs news meteorologist andrew kozak for more on that. ndrew. >> there is, jericka. yeah, kind of hard to believe the countdown, 26 days until thanksgiving. we'll start with the pacific northwest with more snow across the high elevations, up to nine inches for idaho, montana. through monday, utah, colorado could get over a foot. and we're not done because we'll have another system coming for monday into tuesday delivering more snow. now to the midwest with showers and thunderstorms through texas and oklahoma. not just severe weather but major flooding for this area including areas like wichita, kansas, toward arkansas. three toics sinchs of rain -- three to six inches of rain by monday. we're dealing with that across the midwest. snow in the higher terrain of the west. for the east coast, surprise, surprise, another sunny fall day. and before we go, all eyes are still going to be on the tropics with this cluster of storms off of nicaragua. a good chance of development in the next two days. this would be raphael. >> good to know. thank you

. >> andrew kozak, thank you so much. >>> tonight an arrest in tuskegee, alabama where at least one persondead and several injured after a shooting at the university's 100th homecoming. cbs' jason allen is there for us tonight with the details. jason? >> reporter: jericko, law enforcement said they arrested a 25-year-old man that they say had a handgun with a machine gun conversion advice. there is a lot of concern among students coming back to campus even as investigators are still collecting evidence. >> oh, my gosh. get down! >> reporter: a centennial celebration interrupted by panic and gunfire. >> we were having fun, and all of a sudden, i saw people running towards me before i heard gunshots. >> reporter: nursing student spoke to us today as she came back to the tuskegee university campus with her mother hours after a bullet hit her in the back centimeters from her spine. >> i tried to get up and run to my friend's car. that's when i got shot in my back. ended up getting hit three times, and i was on the ground. i was shot for like 40 minutes until the paramedics could get to me. >>

let's check in with cbs news meteorologist andrew kozak with more on that. andrew? >> yeah, good evening, jericka. dozens of storm report, including the tornadoes overnight. 2:04 in the morning, very dangerous to have that overnight. and we're once again going to be tracking that for sunday into monday and monday we could be:00 look at more severe weather and enhanced risk for northern texas, tulsa, arkansas, and up towards southwest missouri. we're also keeping an eye on the tropics. potential tropical psych clean 18 has formed. it will move across cuba, potentially becoming a category 1 hurricane, and it may pose a threat to the gulf states by the end of the week. we're going to keep an eye on that. for tuesday, election day, nice across california until you get to the poles. mountain snow. down to the gulf a couple of showers and storms, and no excuse not to get out there and vote across the east coast. beautiful on tuesday with plenty of sunshine all the way from florida to maine. jericka? >> andrew, thank you so much. >>> senate showdown in montana's changed po
