now, a san jose councilman is hoping that technology can help make his district safer. dozens of security cameras were handed out to small businesses in east san jose today, and the goal is to help deter and to catch criminals trying to break in or steal from those stores. nbc bay area's ian cull joins us now. and, ian, so the cameras are free. you just asked for them and you get them. exactly. well, they're being given out to 35 businesses that registered for this pilot program in the alum rock neighborhood. after a rash of break ins and robberies there today. each of them got four cameras and a hard drive to install in and around their businesses. in recent months, there have been at least two armed robberies in the alum rock village. shop owners say that they've already been sharing information on suspicious activity, but they believe this will help crack down on crime as well. having cameras around the neighborhood will increase the security and will be a preventative measure. now, from what i understanding, they have to the businesses that get these four cameras, t

then there's a redistricting process that goes through and and the districts are redrawn and. we hoperough that process to get a fair representation of native americans in these districts. but again, of these states gerrymander districts, where are native law gets really diluted and we're not able elect anybody that we like and they do that on purpose and so we're involved in a whole bunch of lawsuits dealing with the redistricting. it really tries to dilute our vote vote. and again, as jennifer was talking about, since, you know, 2013 and, you know all of these issues going on on we need to fix that voting rights act so we have put together what we call native american voting rights act and working with the national congress of american and a number of other native across the country trying to get this native american voting rights act passed to address the specific issues that impact our when they try to vote and you all the issues raised in that litigation that we're involved in across the country and it's pretty tough going up here on the hill on these voting rights issues now. bu
