north carolina attorney general-elect jeff jackson joins us now.l-elect. >> i've got to tell you, michael, i love whenever our viewers are like, why are you guys not talking about this? this was the thing our viewers wanted us talking about. guys, two days, four hours, there are lots of times. so thank you so much for being here. it is top of mind and i think this is where we're going to see a lot of these civil rights of our democracy to begin to wage at the state level. break it down for us. what is it going to mean for folks in north carolina? >> well, it could be potentially really significant. one of the essential elements of being attorney general is independence. and that's how i campaigned. i said, look, if elected,ly treat this job in an independent, non-partisan way. and what we see from the general assembly, to your point, an earlier play we saw from them a few years ago after our current attorney general was elected is a last-minute effort to try to strip away some of that independence. in this case, it's to make it more difficult for t

and jeff jackson who is great on tiktok, by the way, he got 2.8 million so he got less than the gubernatorialand one more, elaine marshall who won secretary of state, 2.8 million, you go down a little bit more. the superintendent of public instruction, democrat maurice green won by 121,000 votes and he got 2.8 million votes and you go down and get to the presidential race, donald trump only got slightly more than maurice green. he got 2.87 million votes and kamala harris got just slightly under maurice green, 2.688 million votes and that sounds crazy to people, but it actually is a phenomenon that people will go in and say oh, my, it is to make sure that the guy who called himself a black nazi is not my governor. your thoughts? >> i think that's right. people go into the voting booth and vote for the people they specifically care about, you know. sometimes it's the senate race and sometimes it's the gubernatorial race and sometimes it is the top of the ticket and just vote for donald trump, for example. i keyed in on something you said which was really important to me and something that i've

elect jeff jackson, who has to deal with the fallout, joined us on the weekend to talk about his reaction democrat or independent are strongly strongly opposed. some people saying i didn't vote for you but this shouldn't happen, especially the way that it's happening. >> and as you know, those changes were stuffed into what was supposed to be a hurricane relief -- what are they doing here? >> senate bill 382 republicans passed and rammed through, i should say, our general assembly this last week without the support of three western north carolina republicans in the general assembly right now because even they knew this bill, this 131 page bill guised as hurricane relief was really just an opportunity for republicans to take away power from incoming democrats. but also restrict the power of folks of our council of state that are already elected to positions as well. really it's a power grab from republicans that we are seeing and trying to really threaten the democracy that we are seeing happen in north carolina. voters recognize they voted for people to have the positions and should trust

and i want to thank jeff jackson for his leadership and certainly congratulate him on his continued journey has a public servant as the next attorney general if the great state of north carolina. three extraordinary public servants. who were elected by the people. but then unable to continue to serve, not because of any decision made by the people of north carolina, but because of extreme partisan gerrymandering by far-right extremists in the north carolina legislature and this ma tba north carolina supreme court. it's an extraordinary thing. as representative nickel has indicated, the people of this great country should determine who represents them. we shouldn't have representatives, so-called representatives, making the decision as to the people that they'll represent. it's been a lot of talk in the aftermath of this most recent election about an extraordinary, overwhelming mandate. let's just look at the state of north carolina. congratulate the incoming president on his success in north carolina. close race. but on his success in north carolina. and in every other battle grouped state.

jackson that matt whitaker is also a name who's engaged in conversations here in palm beach. matt whitaker folks will recall was the acting attorney general for a period of time after jeff sessions was ousted as a.g. back in 2017 in the first administration. when it comes to chief of staff the name susie wiles, if folks haven't become familiar with susie, she was sort of the behind-the-scenes operator, co-campaign manager for donald trump the last two years. we've been used to palace intrigue stories when it comes to donald trump's campaigns and the white house. she was somebody here who very much allowed anybody that wanted access to donald trump to have that access. some of the more right-wing provocateurs you could call them but as well as sort of the mainstream conservatives. everybody who i have talked to over the past two years has been very happy with the role she played in not trying to keep anybody away from donald trump but allowing it to be sort of a big tent -- not only at mar-a-lago but on the campaign trail. i'm told that susie wiles is expected to be very much potentially the next chief of staff. but brooke rollins is still somebody engaged in this process. brooke
