it was arranged that dated back to when the soviets were in afghanistan and naito had been using since then. it wasn't all that well marked or, fenced off. so these people who mainly made their living livestock would graze in the area. and sometimes wander into the firing range and step on, pick up things that were still live. so i'm in this living room of this house and there's basically nothing but carpet on the floor and some floor pillows. and i'm talking to the father of this family who's his leg below his knee. so he's telling me about how one night in the dark he's grazing sheep, steps on something that explodes. now, next thing he knows, he's getting care. and his lost part of his leg and there across the room, his son, who i believe was around 17 years old, hadn't had no arms below his and explained that one time he was out in the area picking up scrap metal to try to sell to get some spare change food. he picks something turned out to be a grenade it went off. so i'm sitting in this living with this family hearing this. i mean just about as horrible a story as you can imagine
