no single ob-gyn. and for many, many years, women had gone and used to travel many miles to seek care. now, when she got pregnant, at the age of 26, she was diabetes obese and hypertensive and we have a doctor with us today who can tell you these are pretty common conditions for pregnant women. and in addition to that, she developed a condition known as pulmonary edema which can be fatal in pregnancy. and any physician will tell you that pregnancy is in essence a test on the body. when women get sick, some women might not be able to stand that test. and so what happened in the case of yeny she was 27 when she died. this was 16 days after the overturning of roe v. wade and she died with her baby in the womb and no one, we reviewed 3,000 pages of medical records no one raised the possibility of a thayer put a being abortion or termination at no point, right. and this is context in which this is happening. as you pointed out, there's tremendous exodus happening in texas. we reported from the rio grand val

our ob/gyn's and other physicians bracing for more restrictions after the selection?state in crisis. specifically the women in that state. the idea of being punished for providing medical care is outrageous. by punishment we are not talking about revoking a medical license which by the way eight danger enough, we're talking about arresting, incarcerating and convicting doctors, obstetricians, gynecologists, for a felony simply for providing care. remember, to not provide medical care as a violation of our oath that we take as physicians. first do no harm. the doctors in texas and 21 states as you pointed out, their hands are being tied. they are unable to provide care to women who need care who need evidence-based treatment. as a physician i am talking to multiple other medical professionals, not just doctors but nurses and physician assistants, globally, it is outrageous what is happening in the united states. states like texas and other states that are imposing these restrictive reproductive justice laws, they are sending a message and that is saying that women are

joining me now to discuss this, one of the ob/gyn's who signed that powerful letter, dr.ered. dr. dennard, thank you so much for joining us, you have experienced the consequences of texas is abortion laws firsthand, both professionally and personally. when you were pregnant and learned that the fetus you were carrying had a fatal fetal anomaly, and had to leave texas to get that abortion. can you tell us about your experience and what led you to it? >> sure. absolutely, thank you so much for having me this evening. you know, this all became so personal for me when i myself had to flee my home state of texas, a place where i am now a sixth generation texan to get the care that i needed. i was 11 weeks pregnant, just so excited to be adding a third baby to our family, and i looked up at the ultrasound screen at the routine visit and saw that the baby inside my womb had no brain and do not have in school. and i knew at that moment not only is this not going to be a brother or sister for my children, but this is a pregnancy that i am going to need to end to save my life, and

on her way to becoming an ob/gyn.years in her final year of medical school in texas, married to her high school sweetheart and ready to start a family. >> we planned it out perfectly. i was going to get pregnant at this time and it was going to be great. >> you had it planned? >> i had it planned, down to like the week. >> she was thrilled when she learned she was pregnant. early scans and testing showed a healthy baby girl. but a routine fetal anatomy scan at 20 weeks did not go according to plan. what did they tell you was wrong? >> her brain was not formed correctly. she only had one kidney. her spine was so bent that it put pressure on her heart. it was honestly a blur. i either said is it bad or is it lethal. her answer was it is lethal. meaning that my daughter that i planned out to a t and we had already started to get little outfits and bath toys was going to die. >> what did you do? >> screamed, cried, got a second opinion. got a third opinion. and it wasn't a question as to what we were going to do. it was a

you have 100 ob/gyn's in the state releasing a letter saying the steps were preventable and they aretate leaders to change the abortion laws. as senator, how would you address this very serious issue? >> i just want to say, my wife and i have had two boys here in dallas in the last five years, and i cannot imagine -- i can't even take myself to that point of imagining how we would have felt or how i would feel if my wife is denied care for 40 hours, which is what happened, for 40 hours while infection set in, because a politician like ted cruz thought he knew better than her or her doctor. that's how she died. and in another case, an 18-year- old who had to go from her baby shower to three different emergency rooms. the first two turned her away. the third one, she was in organ failure, so they finally accepted her, and it was too late to save her life. we have seen the maternal mortality rate has skyrocketed here, but we haven't had the stories. so, this is now an issue that we have to address, and i am so thankful for these ob/gyn's to come forward and the texas women who come forw
