ranger is active this morning atop of mount bruno. and i want to show you right here a live look from atop of the other spots across the bay area this morning. as this atmospheric river will bring rain over the coming hours and days. now, the same storm moving into the bay area is already having a huge impact in the pacific northwest. authorities say a fallen tree killed a woman at a homeless encampment last night outside of seattle, and two others were injured when a tree fell on a mobile home in puget sound across washington state. more than a half a million people are waking up this morning without power. some of the wind speeds are approaching 100mph near vancouver island, and first responders are working to rescue people and clear debris along fallen, along with fallen trees. now, meteorologist kari hall, of course, been tracking this storm overnight, so how are we looking so far here at home? well, we are seeing the heavier rain now targeting parts of northern california, but you can see closer to the center of this storm. this

the north bay, but eventually we'll start to work its way to the south as we track it with storm rangerame tool on your smartphone as we are going to see this storm system moving through over the next couple of days, you'll be able to zoom into your neighborhood if you have the. nbc bay area app and see where the rain is most intense and when it will make it to where you are. but we are seeing it right now over northern marin county, central sonoma county, and it's going to continue to rain in those areas as we go throughout the next couple of days. so we'll start to see the impact of all of this rainfall adding up day after day as we get off and on showers. but notice how spots like fremont, palo alto, san jose is really not seeing much out of this for today. and so you may go the entire day without even seeing a drop of rainfall while it is just pouring farther to the north. between today and tomorrow, we could see rainfall totals in napa, close to two inches of rainfall, but over three inches for guerneville and then in mill valley, about a half inch of rainfall. san francisco a quar

our nbc bay area storm ranger is scanning on san bruno mountain right there and you can see the radarorm is moving towards the coast right now. that green. take a live look from san rafael to san jose. not a lot of raindrops out there yet. it's going to change soon. let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda to find out when it's getting here. yeah. likely to change just in time for the morning commute, as you see. stormranger over my shoulder. it got a power rinse last week around this time as very heavy rain came down. but right now, right there from san bruno mountain, you can see it does have a pretty good viewpoint on the showers, which have been moving south to north across marin county. and tonight we've seen some thunderstorms off the mendocino county coast. but it's this line of rain that's off to our south. the next atmospheric river boost that this time around will be aimed on the central coast. so the rainfall projections, unlike a week ago, are likely to be higher just to our south. and you can see it there on the map between now and tuesday. those are the type of rain

i want to give you a live look at storm ranger. there it is, perched at this parking spot on the san bruno mountain. it is active. it is up and running, tracking that incoming storm. we're going to check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. oka, so storm ranger is tracking this. what are we thinking about? the timeline and how will it cascade around the bay area? well, i think we're really not seeing any huge impacts tonight. we'll start to see that rainfall beginning to move in once we head into tomorrow morning over the north bay first. then this is going to start to step down here across the bay area. so what you're looking at on this first map is the storm system itself, which is going to be centered way off towards pacific northwest. but it's the atmospheric river that's tying into all of this that's going to help to boost this storm system up and give us those higher totals. there's the atmospheric river. it's that subtropical moisture tap that will bring us in some spots up into the north bay, four plus inches of rainfa
