first on camera interview since the election, the chairman of the democratic national committee, jamie harrisonrison, welcome back to the sunday show. >> thank you, jonathan, happy holidays to you, my friend. >> same to you. first question is first, why do you think vice president harris lost the election? >> well, i think there is not one real thing, jonathan. i think there are a lot of little things. yeah, some folks talk about the economy, and i believe that the economy really weighed on some folks, but i think when you look under the hood, it was a few different cuts, you know? a lot of different things out here. i think there are some issues related to gender, i think there are issues related to race, i think there are issues related to distancing from the administration. but again, i don't think there is one major thing in that. i think it is a lot of little things, and at the end of the day, it was 238 thousand some odd votes, it was 230,000 votes that made the difference between why donald trump is president- elect and not kamala harris. and so -- go ahead. >> chairman, let me ask you t

democrats will elect a new chair of the democratic national committee to replace outgoing chair jamie harrisonounced their bid for the job and you may recognize some of these names. starting off, there's former maryland governor martin o'malley, also a candidate for president in the 2016 uten the former candidate for u.s. senate in maryland. there's also new york state senator james skoufis, essentially an unknown in national democratic circles, but he is a democrat who has consistently won voters in his red district in new york. and then, there's also ben wikler the democrat party chair from wisconsin who is known for his successful efforts that led to democrats having statewide victories in wisconsin over the past five years. and ken martin, who has led the minnesota democratic former labour party since 2011. now he is also a dnc vice chair and the leader of the association of state democratic chairs. as for the moment, martin seems to be the leading contender for the job, who is already receiving at least 100 endorsements from dnc members, and that's nearly half of the votes that he needs t

do have a big job, and they will have a national platform in the way that, you know, perhaps jamie harrison did not during the biden years. >> and you heard there the stirrings of an argument for the midterm elections. populist economics. that's how they got to take on trump. we're seeing a cabinet of billionaires and multi-millionaires presumably going to have conflicts of interests and scandals and he also went on to talk about that, that personal issue of the president. and that will be what's on the ballot in the midterm elections. >> but a bigger challenge than the last time trump won, because when trump won in 2016, democrats were outraged and surprised and alarmed. and we saw those huge that huge march on washington and a determination to fight him everywhere they could. you don't see that today. you see, democrats discouraged disheartened. that is going to be job one. and whoever gets to chair the dnc has heard some fiery rhetoric, rhetoric from him. >> i asked him about the trump resistance 2.0. it sounded like he kind of wanted. that is the way the democrats should position themse
