a small pivot, this november oakland voters really demanded change. they ousted the mayor and ousted the district attorney and where some see chaos others see an opportunity. what changes do you think the city really needs to make in this critical moment? >> well, i think first of all, they need to take another look at that measure x that jerry brown brought in when he was the mayor of oakland. i think he wanted to take over the control of the city and run the city. we had a city manager that was doing a tremendous job and before him we had another city manager, henry gardner, doing a tremendous job. as small as our city is, 430,000 people, we had three different major teams, athletic teams, in the city of oakland and for our size that was phenomenal. that wasn't because we had a strong measure x mayor. it was because we had great city managers. i don't think they ever really got credit for all the great jobs they were doing, but the city managers were people that were versed on what city management was all about. they were educated on what needed to

state records show oakland diocese chief financial officer revived the oakland parochial fund less than months before the alleged $106 million transfer. we reached out to the diocese and its attorneys to ask about that transfer. in a statement, they rejected the allegations. they're hiding any assets, they said. the claims are not supported by facts, and they're addressing the concerns in court. last month, the oakland diocese proposed tohe court a reorganization plan to come out of bankruptcy. it includes a fund for abu survivors that the diocese says is worth more than $150 million. it was very contrite outside of a bankruptcy hearing, victim sherry waterworth told us she doesn't trust oakland bishop barber. he's watching out for his finances. victims like her say the diocese can pay far more considering all the cash and property it controls. we need to hold bishop barber accountable. he needs to come to the table and be honest and quit. it's ridiculous. candace nguyen, nbc bay area. we investigate. candace has been uncovering stories of abuse by catholic priests across the bay area,

i want to thank the haas family, the oakland organization, the city of oakland and all your beautiful fans for supporting m. in 1991, rickey henderson shared these words at the oakland coliseum after he broke the mlb record for most stolen bases of all time. known as the man of steel, he wound up stealing a staggering 1406 bases by the end of his career, which spanned nine teams and 25 years, with 14 of those seasons in the green and gold. henderson was born in chicago, but was raised in oakland, where he was a star high school running back. first time i ever heard of rickey henderson. it was actually when he was in high school playing football at oakland tech. but henderson turned down football scholarships to sign with the athletics. in 1976, friend and former teammate bip roberts, who also grew up inakland, said henderson inspired a generation of athletes in the town. that's the impact he had on all of us as players. we wanted to be like rickey. if we could be like rickey, we could make it to the big leagues, and if we could make it to the big leagues, then it's a dream come true.

perhaps the greatest baseball player ever to come from oakland. rickey henderson was born on christmas day, 1958, in chicago and moved to oakland when he was just a toddler. a three sport athlete at oakland technical high school, rickey turned down football scholarships to sign with his hometown oakland a's back in 1976 and made his major league debut just three years later. and he literally was off and running. in 1980, his first full season in the majors, he broke the american league record for stolen bases, which was set by ty cobb. and in 1982, rickey stole 130 bases, still the all time record. in the mid 80s, henderson was traded to the new york yankees. he led the american league in stolen bases every year of the 80s, except for one when he had a down year and seattle's harold reynolds had 60 stolen bases in 1987, and years later, reynolds remembered the phone call that he received after the season was over from rickey henderson. >> man, you ought to be ashamed. i go, what are you talking about? he said, 60 stolen bases. you ought to be asha

oakland police confirming to ktvu that robbers hit at least four locations across oakland, all beforegas station on high street, a car wash on broadway and ampm on shattuck, and a shell station on fifth street all had damage. sunday, just before 5 a.m, robbers broke through the front door of this gas station, stole cash from the register, stole cigarettes, and attempted to break into this atm. some gas station clerks in oakland have grown used to the risk of robberies. a cashier we spoke to who asked to remain anonymous for his own safety, says a group of at least eight suspects broke through their front door. >> this time, it was the other cashier. they tell him, don't do anything. they will kill you. then they came over to the atm. they want to try to break the atm with a big hammer. they tried, they tried. they didn't break it. >> the robbers were unable to get cash out of the atm, but damages show just how hard they tried. the suspects made off with $300 and many of the store's cigarettes. the cashier says he was robbed just two weeks ago at this same location. have you seen robbe
