angie, good morning. how is it looking? >>> good morning, willie.ortunately, we see the winds elevated, red flag warnings up. we're going to go through a peririod of fluctuations here where they ramp back up with another santa ana event. closer to the coast 30-plus-mile-per-hour winds. in the mountains some locations dealing with over 60 miles per hour. the peak today will be the first half of the day. we start to see a lull into the afternoon and then we ramp back up as we get into the overnight hours, so no surprise today. we still have that critical risk for much of this area. stretching down to escondido, that will be included in that, likely something we will see rough at least next week. here is the situation for late monday into tuesday. high pressure drops into the great basin. we're going to see 40 to 70-mile-per-hour winds as we get into early next week. this drops us also to those 5 to 15% levels of humidity along with the dry vegetation. there's no surprise that we're going to continue to see these situations stay in place for this regio

nbc meteorologist angie lassman is tracking the winter alert. angie. >> we've got plenty of winter alerts because of a couple different systems we're 40 million people across the northeast stretching down to the ohio valley and midwest. we've got a one quick moving system that's going to bring a little bit of snow across the central appalachians through the day today. then we gear up for the next storm system to emerge out of the plains. by saturday we'll see that heavy snow expanding into the rockies, and that system works into the midwest. we'll see the potential for strong storms on sunday across the south. but travel's going to be difficult with icy conditions and the potential for heavy rain. even as we get into next week. this is monday. you can see icy conditions still lasting. but plenty of snow expected across the mid atlantic, and the rain working its way out. when it's all said and done, the highest amounts of snow are going to be center aid cross i-70. notice up to a foot in places north of cincinnati and st. louis. right along i-70.

. >> let's get right to jacob soboroff in pacific palisades, california, and meteorologist angie lassman tracking these hurricane-force winds the firefighters are facing. start with jacob on the scene. what is the situation where you are right now? >> anna, this is first light here in pacific palisades, a beautiful coastal community of about 23,000 people. everywhere you look it is sheer and utter devastation. this used to be a house. now it's a pile of rubble. these beautiful sycamore trees throughout this community are the only thing left standing. every street you go down in the huntington palisades the neighborhood i was born and raised in, i grew up in a little house a couple blocks away from here on 500 frontera street, i don't know if that house is still standing. this is one of many that make up the patchwork of the city of los angeles. 30,000 people received orders to evacuate here, and there are fires burning everywhere you look. in this town, the staples of the community are gone. the two grocery stores, doctors' offices, the dry cleaners, the local public library, several sch

. >>> now let's bring in meteorologist angie lassman for more on the raging wild fires. such a key part in this. what can you tell us about what's coming? >> ali, we have some improvements when we compare our winds to say what we were dealing with yesterday and will slowly start to see our relative humidity values building back. we have really impressive winds. 17 million people under these red flag warnings. no surprise about that. we have the winds still coming offshore. we have them around 40050 miles per hour gusts today is what we're expecting. that creeps up for tomorrow. we'll be back to the 50 to 70 miles per hour range. this is the setup that we'll see for the prolonged period, even into next week where we see winds relax a little bit and ramp up a little bit. so the on going fire threat is going to be there, tending through at least the next few days and potentially next week. the current lay of the land with wind gusts. you can see wind speeds closer to the coast, less, 20, 30, miles per hour. closer to the hills and mountain regions we'll see the 40 to 50 mil
