nbc bay area's bob redell. joining us now. now, bob, we've been talking about this. city of oakland desperately need money from the sale that has been held up now for some weeks. you are correct, marcus. we're talking about $125 million for the city of oakland. and when you consider their budget deficit is $129 million, this would go a long way in helping to close that. but in order for this deal, the sale of the oakland coliseum to go through the buyer of the coliseum wants sign off from the county of alameda first. which brings us to this morning, the alameda county board of supervisors. they will soon vote on whether or not to approve the a's portion of the coliseum to the african american sports entertainment group, which is co-founded by ray bobbitt. as you can see by this virtual feed, the board is in closed session right now, but when they come back out, we expect them to be voting on this. the a s e g offered $250 million for the coliseum, 125 of that going to the city of oakland, the other half going to the a's. but this past november, bob, its organization

nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live this morning. and, bob, today the city temporarily shut down those two fire stations to save money. however, firefighters i understand they had a news conference pleading with the city to reverse course. you are correct. good morning to you, lauren kris. this news conference wrapped up about 40 minutes ago. one firefighter at this morning's news conference says these closures are, quote, a tragedy not worth the amount of money the city is savining given the amount of lives now at risk. according to the firefighters, this was the scene within the past hour at 10 a.m, where dozens of oakland firefighters stood on the steps of city hall this morning, admonishing the city administrator, begging him to reopen these stations and warning that the planned closure of four more stations next month will make it impossible for firefighters to do their jobs and will lead to unnecessary deaths. starting today, the city shut down two stations located in the hills of oakland station 28, near the lake chabot golf co

today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from the hall of justice in san jose. this morning's hearing comes after a court recently overturned dana stubblefield's rape conviction. you are correct. good morning to you, lawrence scott. later this morning at 9:00, a judge here at santa clara county superior court behind me will hold this hearing to release. that's where the lawyer for dana stubblefield will petition the judge to try to get the judge to agree to release his client from prison, as you mentioned. last week, a california appellate court overturned the 2020 rape conviction of stubblefield. he used to be a defensive tackle for the san francisco 49ers and the then oakland raiders in july of 2020. dana stubblefield was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after being convicted of raping a woman who was interviewing for a babysitting job at his morgan hill home. a california appellate court determined that stubblefield did not get a fair trial, and prosecutors violated the 2020 racial justice act by making racially biased comments about him being black. t

today in the bay's bob redell joins us from an area close to coyote creek in san jose. bob. clearing starting to starting today. right? not necessarily. what's happening is because we're in the new year, the santa clara valley water district can begin enforcing a law that bans encampments on valley water land like the area behind me. i know it's dark out, but there's an embankment behind me down to coyote creek. there are a number of people who are encamped out here. this, of course, is near story road. what used to be the jungle here in san jose. if you're familiar, you've been here long enough to remember that the city of san jose has said these encampments are spilling waste into local waterways and need to go in order to be in compliance. the encampments need to go away in order to be in compliance with the clean water act. a spokesman for valley water says the district is right now not planning to remove any unhoused people by force from the embankments of their waterways, but instead will conduct public outreach to try to give the people options on where they could go

bob redell joins us live from t altamont in livermore this morning. so, bob, that tunnel needs help from several local water agencies before they can build it. you are correct. good morning to you, marcus. a dozen local water agencies, including zone seven here in livermore, have already approved to fund the planning and design of this 45 mile long underground tunnel that would connect with the existing above ground aqueduct that you see on 580 when you're driving into to tracy behind the on the altamont behind me. later this morning, a 13th agency will vote during 11 a.m. board meeting. we're talking about the santa clara vall water district. they'll decide whether or not to contribute $9.7 million towards the planning and design of this massive infrastructure project that would cost an estimated $20 billion to complete. now, the idea is to build a concrete tunnel that is 36ft in diameter. as you can see on this map, would take fresh water from the sacramento river north of us and divert it underground to large water pumps already located in tracy. ag
