today in the bay's bob redell joins us from an area close to coyote creek in san jose. bob. clearing starting to starting today. right? not necessarily. what's happening is because we're in the new year, the santa clara valley water district can begin enforcing a law that bans encampments on valley water land like the area behind me. i know it's dark out, but there's an embankment behind me down to coyote creek. there are a number of people who are encamped out here. this, of course, is near story road. what used to be the jungle here in san jose. if you're familiar, you've been here long enough to remember that the city of san jose has said these encampments are spilling waste into local waterways and need to go in order to be in compliance. the encampments need to go away in order to be in compliance with the clean water act. a spokesman for valley water says the district is right now not planning to remove any unhoused people by force from the embankments of their waterways, but instead will conduct public outreach to try to give the people options on where they could go
