. >> i want to turn to republican senator katie britt of the great state of alabama, senator, good to hear from you. the president-elect hosted a dinner this weekend to talk about his plans for this week specifically, tell us what he had to say and how his second term night feel different than his first? >> first, there is a unity and excitement that i've never had an opportunity to experience, within the republican party. and you all were talking about this earlier, how he was envisioning this and the way he was approaching. he talked directly about the grace of god and saving his life in the assassination attempt, not just number 1 but number 2, you can tell, he is purposeful in what he's going to do and what he believes he needs to accomplish for the american people, and he also understands, this time around, let's all come do this together, let's get on the same page, he's encouraging that and he's also making a great case that the american people expect that from him. i think it'll be an exciting day. i think he is going to make sure that america knows that it's a new day and the

[applause] thanks for sticking around for overtime. i was just out here. listen you touched on the number of important topics of the administration already. the event is about the first 100 days of the new president and i want to take a couple minutes to talk about the outgoing president and i'm curious your experience with the next -- administration administration for how engaged have they've been with you and have you heard from them? >> no. as a republican in the house i didn't expect to be and was invited down to the white house for one bill signing. what was the bill, dear member >> it was early on in the frustration and we passed 27 bills in that time. we were active but there was not a lot of inertia in. >> that you've never spoken to president biden >> only in a formal setting where there were lots of other people. understand what you are describing and i'm not sure it makes sense to me. i'm just in your house republican. it's an tight majority and you have expressed interest coming of a record of working in a bipartisan bases

i want to extend my deep gratitude to senators katie britt and senator ted budd for their leadershipll forward. first and foremost, i want to say that i strongly support this measure. with this bill, the senate will be taking a bold step for the safety and prosperity of american citizens after four years of mismanagement, deklain and ultimately chaos at the border. the laken riley act is the answer to a loud and clear call made at the ballot box by the american people. to unite us as a country, to put america first, and to address the tragic lawlessness that we see on our southern border. and so the senate's first order of legislative business we are answering that call. the radical open border policies of the left have caused untold suffering to families across the nation. families like the riley family who are still grieving the unimaginable loss of their beautiful daughter laken. laken was just 22 years old, a young nursing student with a promising future ahead of her. tragically she was stolen from this earth by an individual who should have never been allowed to roam free in thi

and senator katie britt from alabama, where the tuskegee airmen trained, reacted immediately and saidry of defense had said they immediately reversed that order. but it is unclear exactly what that those dei orders do mean. and this is going to be repeated, i think, everywhere in the government, black history month is about to start on saturday. so is that okay? is that like giving special treatment to black people? do we need a white history month to balance the scales? or is every month white history month? i don't you know, we don't know the answers to these questions. and they're not contained in these in these executive orders, because the president doesn't seem to know or certainly hasn't defined exactly what this awful thing dei is. it's he he doesn't have a definition of it. and so who knows what's going to be taken away as a result of these orders? that's what i'm writing about, i think. i think he's doing it wrong. i think he's got a wrong definition if he has a definition at all. but that's where we are. >> yep. and he talked about it a lot during the campaign. jean, thank
