kayna, thank you. >> david: they are warning of this particularly dangerous situation.na winds roaring back tonight. let's get right to meteorologist ginger zee. what can they expect tonight? >> they can quickly if they start and we have 36 hours in what will be an urgent situation in california. let's talk about the setup. it is different than what happened last week, it is a little less and the type that can take down trees and power lines and we have the upper level support and that's why we put it up at 500 millibars speeding up the santa ana winds and making it bigger. geography is slightly different this time. we're talking about the santa monica mountains, but also san luis obispo, calabasas, eastern san gabriel mountains and the malibu coast and all of the cities that you see highlighted there are in the particularly dangerous situation red flag warning. that's something that on a normal year you would see every five to ten years, but they've had four this season alone. this is the fourth. so a really, really big fire risk and that red flag warning goes all of t

>> david: kayna whitworth here in california. thanks to you and mola there. we were able to get back up into the air to see all of this from above. and it is staggering. gabe santos reporting in a short time ago on what he saw. >> reporter: david, this is about 10 or 15 miles from downtown los angeles. but it is a very-populated neighborhood in the suburbs. you can see just how vast of a scene this is. in this particular fire, we've counted alone, over 100 structures destroyed. it looks like that one's going to be a complete loss. and the home right next to it. you have fire crews there on scene. we have a partial structure collapse. we saw the flames creep up the hill towards this home. and those fire protection crews are trying to get some of the flames out there, multiple neighborhoods that we've seen that appear to be completely flattened, as if a tornado or hurricane has swept through. it is almost emotional in nature when you take in how vast of an area has burned and the number of homes that have been burned so far, david? >> david: gabe santos and our

kayna whitworth has that story for us.s week, bryan kohberger's lawyers are arguing the dna evidence was gathered illegally and should not be presented to a jury in a death penalty case. they also want the argument surrounding it to be made public. this morning bryan kohberger's defense team trying to get critical evidence thrown out as they raise questions about how law enforcement zeroed in on him. his attorneys taking aim at dna analysis known as investigative genetic genealogy, entering dna profiles into public databases to find relatives and narrow the list of potential suspects. prosecutors tying kohberger to the quadruple murders after they say his dna was found on a button snap of a knife sheath at the murder scene. >> the argument why it should thrown out is less about the result but more about the science. >> reporter: it was mid november, 2022 when prosecutors say kohberger entered an off campus apartment and fatally stabbed four students. a not guilty plea has been entered on his behalf. kohberger's attorneys n

kayna whitworth is tracking the latest. what do we know about the person that was taken into custody near this new fire? >> reporter: yeah, michael. good morning. we're learning a person has been detained in connection with that kenneth fire as they investigate it as arson. now that fire started as firefighters were trying to save communities like this in altadena that not only lost homes and businesses, but buildings as well. overnight the kenneth fire igniting in the west hills, quickly ravaging nearly 1,000 acres in a matter of hours. evacuation orders expanding rapidly. l.a.p.d. says they have detained someone in connection as they continue their arson investigation. >> the speed of which this fire went is just unbelievable. >> reporter: santa ana winds picking up again friday. gusts already at 81 miles an hour. >> we are expecting this fire to rapidly spread due to high winds. >> reporter: 180,000 residents told to evacuate and more than 300,000 without power. overnight, the palisades fire growing. early estimates of m
