lorna gordon reports.gers on board. some here taking the trip specially to witness the long—awaited maiden voyage. it is just quite exciting to at last get a chance to be on the boat and come across here. and what i�*ve seen so far is absolutely beautiful. it�*s so fresh, like getting a new car. hopefully there will be less cancellations, there will be more capacity for people to get on and off the island. it remains to be seen, i suppose, but fingers crossed. it has been really difficult, especially this year, - because the ferry has been off so often. - you can be on the island for two or three days with no ferry- service at all, so that can be - difficult, especially for people who need to get over to the mainland for appointments and things like that, i so hopefully this isjust going to be a bigger, . more reliable ship. the ferry is seven years overdue and hundreds of millions of pounds over budget. the saga of costly delays and technical problems cost islanders dear. it�*s been difficult for islander

there has been extensive disruption that is lorna gordon in scotland. reduced weather warnings — compared to ireland, northern ireland and scotland. our correspondent, danny savage, is in penrith. i think it's important to point out that it was an amber weather warning, which was in place across northern england. still in place, obviously not as severe as what we had in scotland and northern ireland. however, by early afternoon here in cumbria, the m6 was littered with lorries and vans which had been blown over onto their sides by strong cross winds over a stretch from carlisle down to tebay. we saw several of them throughout the early afternoon. elsewhere, we had plenty of tiles blown off roofs as well. we're in penrith earlier. several streets were closed off by the police because it was dangerous to walk down them because debris was still coming off the roofs. lots of the other transport disruption in the north of england was pre—empted, though. the a66 was shut from midnight last night, that's still closed and the west coast and east coast main line

our scotland correspondent lorna gordon reports. hey, girls, thank you very much. support and advice. paul and barry volunteer here. they're both in recovery after years of abusing drugs. talking about like heroin and that. i started taking like 14, 15 a day and just get worse. it just progresses. you're smoking it one minute and the next minute you're jagging it and then in the prison, for years. been very lucky to come out of the overdoses. and what i see with a consumption room is so many people are dying on the streets. and what we need to remember is that's somebody's son or daughter or uncle. you need to remember that and give these people a chance. around 100 people every month are dying from drug misuse in scotland, and the issue is most acute in glasgow. preventing deaths is one of the aims of this new facility, which will be the only one of its kind in the uk. that area is a using space. they'll speak to nurses about the equipment they're going to use today, and they'll be given a clean set of equipment. do they bring in their own drugs or do you provide
