we are learning more about the chief suspect in this morning's deadly attack in new orleans. 42 and an american citizen, born and raised in texas. three senior defense officials tell nbc news he served active duty in the army from 2006 to 2015 and a deployment to afghanistan and in the army reserve when he received an honorable discharge. officials say jabbar plowed his pickup truck into crowds about 3:15 this morning swerving around a police car that was put there to block precisely that type of attack. he killed at least ten and injured 35 more and died during a shootout with police. the officials say they are still investigating jabbar's motives and believe he was not acting alone. john brennan, the first thought that i had covering attacks like these over the span of more than a decade from small cells that were sort of operationally part of isis, and sort of lone wolf inspired attacks like the one on the west side highway in new york and in other places. it has been a while when the caliphate was at its peak and isis was producing propaganda and inspiring folks to kind of

and we heard the mayor of new orleans say the president of the united states will be coming to new orleansorrow to support the city and its victims. the mayor says that the visit will be an extension of a coming together in prayer for the city still in mourning after this new year's truck attack, killing 14 people. the mayor also said she has requested to the white house to provide a tactical expert this week to help harden the city. ahead of that city, hosting the super bowl, as well as mardi gras activities as it pertains to law enforcement. we heard a lot coming from representatives of the fbi and the atf saying they still believe that the suspect, shamsud-din jabbar, acted alone and that he did use his vehicle to ram victims there on bourbon street. but prior to that, the atf and the fbi say they have meticulous detail and evidence as to all the events or some of the events that preceded that revealing in detail that they collected. now, inside five days from that new orleans attack, the fbi revealing that the suspect is shown on video, planning an even more expansive attack, potential
