we're seeing that in oakland as well as novato. santa rosa is also seeing some patches of fog kind of drifting in and out of the area, as well as the peninsula moving over toward hayward. we are mostly clear here. the temperature at 41 degrees, and throughout the next several hours we'll see temperatures go from upper 40s at 9:00 to mid 50s at noontime. still jacket weather into the afternoon, and it's only going to reach into the low 60s, which is still above what's normal for this time of year, but cooler than the upper 60s and even low 70s that we had just yesterday. it will be 60 in danville today, while oakland stays in the upper 50s and 50s up and down the peninsula, with daly city topping out at 55 degrees for san francisco. we're staying in the 50s today, downtown, 57 degrees, and in the north bay, 57 in napa, novato, as well as mill valley. so we're going to see more of those temperatures as the dry weather continues. and we've been looking ahead to see if and when we could get some rain into the bay area. it looks like we

as we take a look at our highs for this afternoon, we're headed up to 62 degrees in novato. today.may be slightly cooler in parts of the north bay, but overall we're still back in the mid to upper 60s. for the south bay. we had some low 70s in parts of the north bay yesterday, but we're going to see this weather on repeat throughout the weekend with some mid to upper 60s and then just a touch cooler on sunday, with a high of 62 expected in san francisco and 60 in dublin. there may even be some upper 50s in livermore, there will be a quick moving area of low pressure just off to our east. that's going to create a pressure gradient, that's going to make those winds flow faster between saturday and sunday. but as this high pressure remains in control across the region,t's going to block any chances of rain for quite a while. and we just got the word that we officially have an la nina developing. and what that means is in the equatorial pacific, the trade winds that move off towards the west are building up a pool along the equator of some cooler than normal water temperatures, and so

it's freezing in walnut creek as it is in novato. look at san francisco 38. but in the inner richmond district, i was seeing temperatures near freezing 30 in palo alto. and the winds are pretty much on the calm side at this particular time. but we will be seeing temperatures 57 to 63 full forecast. but right now, sal castaneda, we were talking bay bridge. we were talking richmond bridge. where are the problems. >> right now? the bay bridge. roberta. good news. they cleared the crash. that was right before the harrison street exit and traffic is flowing again. hopefully that will get things going again on the bridge. now it's going to take a while for this to unwind. you can see how slow it is by looking at this picture. and that's why the metering lights are extra slow. it hasn't reached the toll plaza yet. you can still see that the carpool lanes are pretty slow. and so we're going to keep watching for this. but again, the good news is the lanes are open. coming back in a few minutes. we'll talk about some of the other problems on other parts of the bay area

novato, even sfo, half moon bay and then of course up to petaluma and santa rosa. so that's where the main focus continues to be to the north. but some pockets out in solano county. there it is. they've also finally included that parts of the east bay, solano county and along the san mateo coast. i knew they would just have to catch up after we get a little bit of activity up in the mountains. see that little system skirting them right there? so maybe a few little snow showers up there. that system will crank up the wind for southern california tomorrow. i think we'll get wind in the hills tomorrow. not sure it'll make it to the surface, though. 30s and 40s, menlo park and mountain view at 39 degrees. a lot of 40s, though. atherton in there as well. los altos and then 50 at pillar point. there is a slight offshore breeze, so 30s, 20s up in the mountains. nothing changing there, although a few little isolated showers there today. little snow flurries or so. everything though goes up and over. so look for highs mainly in the 60s. unless you're stuck in that fog, you'

areas in the north bay we have low visibility down to zero miles in novato.ower visibility around the east bay shoreline. hayward down to a quarter of a mile. visibility and some clouds along the coast this morning talking about the coast. we will stay pretty cloudy all day long. not as bright as we have been the past couple of days. could even have a little bit of drizzle underneath that fog layer today. daytime highs low 50s. that's about it. that will feel a lot cooler than yesterday around the bay shoreline. we have patchy fog this morning. temperatures in the 30s and 40s. we'll find increasing sunshine throughout the afternoon, but again today about 5 to 10 degrees cooler compared to yesterday. daytime highs mainly in the mid 50s inland. right now we are seeing some of the coldest temperatures this morning well into the 30s, if not the low 30s in some cities, but it is a bright looking afternoon and daytime highs only in the upper 50s, so we are below average when it comes to our afternoon highs. let's look at the three day forecast. we have that fog thi

looking at our highs for today, 60 in dublin and 62 in fairfield, as well as novato and napa and 64 inta rosa. that's one of the warmer spots. we'll talk about rain ahead in our forecast in a few minutes. but, mike, it's still extra slow across the bay bridge. but what's ahead for folks leaving oakland is a slow drive across. we still see some flashing lights right here, although i'm told that the lanes are clear from the earlier crash on the span. there may be more activity getting close to the fremont exit that would restrict more traffic flow across. now, some folks may head north to the richmond bridge as an alternate. you see, the volume is starting to move better. i just saw these flashing lights a tow truck arrive, so that might be related to the clearing of the crash just past the toll plaza. but there's both of your westbound drives off the east shore freeway. both are slow this morning. right now. and now the build up westbound across the san mateo bridge, which might be some folks alternate, not likely, but still could potentially shift some traffic. everything else showing

so looking at visibility in novato, we're down to zero as far as the current visibility. and it's been fluctuating. so i've been looking at half moon bay at times. it's at zero right now it's at eight. so the fog is moving around. and we're seeing at times some clear visibility than other times. just be careful because you may run into a wall of fog where visibility quickly drops off. but we're also going to be watching the coastline for another reason. the waves will be building today, and we are going to have a beach hazard statement going into effect as we go into later tonight, into the day tomorrow. some of those breakers may build anywhere from 15 to 20ft. we do have a storm that is well off the coast. that's building up some of those bigger waves, but for us, we are enjoying some quieter weather compared to what we've seen recently. and then we are seeing some rain, as well as a chance of sierra snow with what we call an inside slider. so that's an area of low pressure that doesn't come in from the coast, but is more moving from north to south. and we're seeing tha

meanwhile, temperatures now 70 degrees reported in novato, 68 in san francisco, mid 60s in walnut creek are anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees above average for this time of year. and today, perhaps not even the warmest day. take a look at the extended forecast where wednesday into thursday, we do expect to remain with those very warm conditions even as we get into the weekend. temperatures are going to fall off just a little bit, but still very nice, with mostly sunny skies and at least a few degrees above average. and speaking of the dry weather, right now it looks like we may be 1 or 2 weeks out before we actually see a decent storm that could change this time of year. and, you know, we typically do get a little bit of a dry spell in january. but for southern california, that just seems concerning, of course, bleak. >> i mean, that fire we just reported on really tells the story. yes. all right, rosemary, thank you. well, some are staying bundled up inside for the snowstorm hitting the east coast. others geared up to go play in the snow. >> it's like fresh powder. it's amazing what a way

if you live near novato near santa rosa, you know the drill, take it slow. let's start with that because as you look behind me, that gray sky matches gianna and reads gray jackets. i think that is the reason why they were that on this monday and that is my personal opinion. this is what is happening, the fog is holding on tight to the north bay until 10:00 a.m. and then it will lift and we will see partly cloudy skies this afternoon and daytime highs will hold on tight to upper 50s and lower 60s. anywhere from santa rosa all the way into novato, san francisco in the upper 50s just like fremont and all the way into the santa clara valley we go and we are mixed with 50s in cities and store today. the dense fog advisory stretches from the marin headlands all the way up into areas like santa rosa , with a low visibility at the surface level. take it slow on the roads and give yourself plenty of space. as we take a look at fog future cast, notice how we advance the clock to 4:00 this afternoon and we are pretty much cleared up along the coast and we could see som

in the meantime, fire stations like this one here in novato remain fully staffed. in marin county. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> all right, cornell, thank you for that. now, those fires have many of us here in the bay area thinking about disaster preparedness. and that was emphasized yesterday morning when a minor earthquake shook us here in the bay area. the quake was centered about three miles off the coast of san francisco's ocean beach, not far from the zoo. and it hit just minutes after 7 a.m. the usgs puts the magnitude at 3.6. there were no reports of injuries or damage, but we did report three recorded aftershocks, all in the magnitude two range. they were all too small to trigger an alert on the myshake app, and also too small for a tsunami warning. whether it's the fires in la, though, or earthquakes closer to home, the signs are clear. now is the time to get your emergency kit ready. we've all been talking to experts this week about what exactly you need to pack for them are to help you and your personal self and your family get through a couple of days without ite
