joining me now to discuss is faiz shakir.ect union. faiz. it's like can. >> can we pull our hair anymore? watching these two realities collide. oh, all the lofty promises trump made highly unlikely to come to fruition, at least on the timetable he suggested. and here's joe biden getting almost zero credit, effectively being kicked out of office for one of the strongest economies, if not the strongest economy in the world. >> up is down. down is up. what's your reaction? >> where do we start with this one? so one is the strong economy is a result of choices made, policy choices that were made right. when? when we're in the midst of the pandemic, we wanted a strong labor market. therefore, we put stimulus into people's pocketbooks child tax credit, unemployment insurance. we backstop jobs through the paycheck protection program. all of that maintained that that workers would be in a good position to negotiate for higher wages coming out of the pandemic. and as a result, you have had more jobs and higher wages start to increase.

omar shakir is with us as well. omar, how do you see it? and could these latest israeli airstrikes over the past day or two in gaza impact the deal? >> look, i think civilians have been killed, starved, forcibly displaced homes, schools, hospitals, infrastructure has been destroyed in an unprecedented scale in the recent history of israel palestine. >> these atrocities must end immediately. the cease fire won't do that on its own. it's critical that israel allow in sufficient humanitarian aid that it lift its blockade, that it restores electricity and water because people will die. cease fire or not? without that, palestinian armed groups must immediately and unconditionally release all civilians held hostage. serious crimes cannot go unpunished, and you must address root causes like israel's apartheid against palestinians. hearing from barack and susan about some of these dynamics, we have to remember that lives are on the line. just today, wolf, we lost two colleagues in the human rights movement in gaza. a staff member, ihab faisal, and

kicking us off this hour is the man who ran bernie sanders campaign in 2020, faiz shakir. he's also the founder of more perfect union and now a candidate for dnc chair. it's great to have you back on the show. when i hear president biden railing against the oligarchy, which i completely agree with, and the dangerous concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few, i actually thought i was listening to bernie sanders here for a moment to a bernie sanders speech. it resonates like that. why is joe biden putting this message out now? and as senator whitehouse pointed out, was it a mistake to not run his white house with this message in full force? >> well, reality has a well-known progressive populist bias here. >> i mean, so we are obviously living in the midst of great income and wealth inequality, and we're kind of slowly slipping into an abyss where it's slapping everyone across the face and you can't ignore it. obviously, bernie sanders ran in 2015, 2016 calling on exactly this problem and wanting us to address it. the sad part for me is that there are actually
