today in the bay's bob redell is live the east bay this morning. and bob. rnor newsom is leading this charge to change this policy or else. right. or else. laura. yes. the governor says that the state will limit or possibly restrict the number of chp officers who've been going to oakland over the past several months to help combat crime in that city. right now, opd and the city administrator are revising that controversial pursuit policy, which will be presented to the oakland police commission next week. tonight, the commission, which oversees over opd, will hold a town hall to hear from oaklanders about their concerns and to discuss the proposed changes that these people are looking for. as it stands, oakland police officers are prohibited from going after suspects unless the suspect has a firearm or is suspected of a violent crime. the city implemented this restrictive policy back in 2014, after an audit found that vehicle pursuits were causing too many crashes and injuries to officers, bystanders and suspects. and because of that, they didn't think it wa

the bay area on tuesday. so during that time this weekend, there's going to be a huge disparity of rainfall and how much we'll see from san jose that may barely see anything at all. the areas in light blue, or about a quarter inch of rainfall or less. but then for the north bay, santa rosa on northward, these areas in pink could possibly see three to possibly six inches of rainfall throughout the weekend with that atmospheric river coming in. so it's going to be very much like the setup we had earlier in the winter. then looking at the sierra that's dropped down now to 65% of its normal amount of snow, we'll get some coming into the weekend, but the northern sierra will get the brunt of the heavier snowfall totals, and we could see possibly 15in of snow into tuesday for the northern sierra from kingvale on northward. so looking at our 7-day forecast, it's going to be dry. but then rain arrives this weekend. laura marcus we certainly need it. thanks, kari. 623 for you coming up next here on today in the bay nbc

i want you to take a look all throughout the bay area. notice how we're sitting in the upper 60s throughout most of the bay. well above average for the full-time of year. but here's what's happening for us. extending into the afternoon hours today, and into the early morning hours tomorrow, actually, we're under a first alert weather day due to the wind advisory. they're pushing offshore so this is going to be dry condensed air continuing to push offshore into the afternoon hours today. which luckily does clear up that dense fog but at the same time, of course, it does make it a little bit challenging to get out there on the roads this morning. lasting into this afternoon for the commutes. so here's what we have right now. anywhere up to around 30-mile-per-hour winds currently just off into the inland areas. we advance the clock all the way into this afternoon and a similar trend and that stays consistent into the evening hours tonight. so before you leave the door today, and you are heading off to work or school, and you have the outdoor

she lives here in the east bay. she was headed down to southern california to visit her friend when the fires broke out. and sadly, she learned that her friend lost her home. so ginger this weekend organized a donation drive here in pleasanton to help out her friend and others impacted by those devastating wildfires in los angeles. faith and other volunteers. they filled a truck with clothes, water, even pet food to be driven down south later today. it's a matter of solidarity and knowing that we're in it together, everybody can feel it. we've had wildfires out here. we know how terrifying it is. so it's really a matter of putting our priorities order, working together to solve these problems and then moving together to a better future. further north of pleasanton in danville, megan stern, she has a cousin who lost her home in the fire. so megan put out the word to friends for help, and the response was overwhelming. people donated all sorts of things, like toiletries from megan's cousin and other people hurt by the

today in the bay's bob redell live for us in the east bay this morning. d, bob, this would be a new policy when it comes to police pursuits. correct. at its meetings tonight, the oakland police commission, which oversees opd. marcus and laura, they will vote on a recommendation to fix a restrictive and controversial pursuit policy that lets many criminals flee the scene of a crime without getting caught by oakland police. as it stands, oakland police officers are prohibited from going after suspects chasing these suspects unless they have a firearm or are suspected of a violent crime. the city implemented this restrictive no pursuit policy back in 2014, after an audit found that vehicle pursuits were causing too many crashes and injuries to officers, bystanders and suspects. last september, the oakland police commission reviewed that policy and recommended no changes. but then in december, governor gavin newsom called the policy a, quote, an extreme outlier i california that is hamstrung the state's efforts towards crime prevention. he warned the city to c

in the east bay. artment is investigating after they say a deadly stabbing occurred. they say it happened tuesday night on 70th avenue. officers arrived and found one person with stab wounds. the victim was rushed to the hospital, but later died. the identity of the victim will be released at a later date. police are still investigating the scene as well. oakland police are also investigating a shooting that happened last night. this is on second street officers of fried to find one person with gunshot wound. that person was taken to the hospital and is listed as stable. a short time lar, pice were notified of 3 other victims with gunshot wounds and took themselves to the hospital. one of those victims later died of their injuries. the other 2 are listed stable. this investigation is also ongoing. another person shot to death in west oakland this morning. it happened at 14th and poplar streets. police say they have not yet publicly identified the victim as always. they're hoping for leads from the publ
