i want to talk about the bay bridge. locking the left lane here on the bay bridge westbound coming in to san francisco. it looks like they got a lot of those vehicles out of the way. however, there's still a lane blocked right there and you can see that traffic is backed up all the way across the bridge. it hasn't recovered yet. and the toll plaza, you can still see that the carpool lanes are slow. whenever you see these lanes slow here, that means that we're we have some trouble there. it's not just a typical delay. when those lanes start moving, we'll have a better commute, at least for people who are in the carpool lane. if you want to use the san mateo bridge, i'd say it's okay. when you get over to that side, it looks okay. northbound 101 at hillsdale. they're clearing a crash westbound 580 at foothill. they're also clearing a crash there. and we do have some slow traffic in san jose building along northbound 101 and the guadalupe parkway, 651. let's bring roberta back in to talk about today's weather. >> well, you k

we'll track that at the bay bridge and around the bay.ive look at the state capitol this morning. that's where in a few hours from now, governor gavin newsom submits his budget proposal to lawmakers. the governor this week has laid out some of the highlights. he calls it a $322 billion budget that has no deficit. he says it sets aside money for first statewide transitional kindergarten program, where anywhere in the u.s, and that would provide free schooling to children starting at the age of four. california's finance director is expected to provide the full details on that plan at 10 a.m. 546 right now. the supreme court says donald trump must go forward with his sentencing today in new york city. scott mcgrew a surprise loss there for the president elect in the high court. it really was. i mean, he usually wins most of them. he gets his way. he lost this decision by just one vote, five, four. trump's lawyers had asked the high court to block todayay's hearing, claiming because trump won the most recent election that made him immune fro

drivers crossing the bay bridge here behind me or any of the bay area's seven state owned bridges, can expect to pay $8 per toll. now, this voter approved toll increase is the third in a series of three, with the last increase happening three years ago. the bay area toll authority says money from this increase will go towards freeway improvements across the area and the purchase of new bart cars, not to mention an extension of the bart system, the caltrain corridor, muni's transit vehicle fleet, and the san francisco bay. service bay ferry service, just to name a few. it is important to note this increase is separate from the toll hike just approved by the toll authority last month that will ultimately see the price to cross a bridge hit 1050 by the year 2030. commuters we talked to worry about the financial impact it will have on people who rely on crossing the bridges to work or to see family. >> i don't think that's the way to do it. you know, closing this, raising this, know, what are they doing with that money? because i don't see any type of improvements. >> the increase approved

now taking a live look at the bay bridge. the new year is bringing higher costs for commuters in the bay area. the totals for all 7 state-owned bridges is now one dollar more than this time last year. kron four's will tran reports from the bay bridge with the latest prices. >> it's now the law, $8 at the stroke of midnight before that at 11, 59, it was $7. $8 will be the new law of the land, at least for one year as voters actually approved that this back in 2018. yet started 3 ways of toll increases. one in 2021. 22 23. and then now 2025 each year. one dollar culminating now at $8. the money, according to the metropolitan transportation commission is being used or was being used as they are still collecting the money. of course, for transportation projects all over the bay area, including works on the bridge. this takes effect at all state bridges except the golden gate bridge. that is a privately-owned bridge. but the sad part is if you are commuting across the bridges, this is only going to last one year as it will continue
