host: the back-and-forth over the last couple of days about the associated press particularly over their on the gulf of america. >> this has been a bubbling issue that members of the press have been paying attention to for several days in a row, the associated press us had reporters and photographers barred from everything from oval office events to press conferences to even a seat reserved on air force one to go down to florida. we've seen the white house correspondents association that helps represent all of us expressed concern about this and call for the white house to reverse everything. the white house is arguing because the ap serves a global audience is not recognizing the america only guidance the gulf of mexico should now be called the gulf of america they feel they have the authority to bar the ap from various events. there's been a lot of members of the press over the last few weeks so they have also been saying there's a bunch of other media we can bring into fill their spot who will adhere by our guidelines. press advocates argue this is concerning because of the other time

the associated press says the trump administration opened investigations into alleged anti-semitism atols include columbia, uc berkeley, the university of minnesota, and portland state. it came the same day after a new task force. to root out anti-semitism on college campuses. officials accused campuses of allowing anti-semitism after the october 7th hamas attack on israel. >>> the detroit news says the aclu is suing the university of michigan after pro-palestinian protesters were banned from campus. the federal lawsuit file on behalf of at least five people accuses the school of violating their right to free speech. last week a student who dedicated to the palestinian liberation was cut off from funding for two years for actions the university says violated school policies. the school didn't immediately respond to request for comment. >>> and new york says state attorney general letitia james warned hospitals against canceling transgender care. she sent a letter to hospitals yesterday saying refusing treatment would violate state anti-discrimination laws. it comes after president trum

national press club's president weighed in with a statement saying, quote, the white house barring associated pressalists for not using government imposed language is a blatant violation of the first amendment and a brazen attack on press freedom, end quote. i mean, my law license is a little dusty, sarah, but this seems like pretty obvious. first amendment 101. i mean, put this into context for us. >> yes. so during donald trump's first administration, paula, he did a bunch of things that press freedom groups ultimately sued and took to court over. you'll recall he removed white house press credentials from cnn's jim acosta. ultimately, he lost on that case. they also went to court over whether or not he could block critics on twitter. the judges in that ruling said that twitter could be considered a public forum. and donald trump also lost in that case. it actually eventually went to bed in 2021, when donald trump was pulled off the platform. so you have a little bit of legal precedent here, paula, for whether or not if ap or first amendment group were to try to sue, arguing first amendment viola
