joining us is education secretary bill bennett. good morning. >> steve: i remember back in the day when you were education secretary for ronald reagan, reagan was talking about getting rid of the department. >> that is right, my confirmation was held up until ronald reagan said he would not get rid of it. that is her task, she can't dissolve the department, she can change the directon of a lot of the department. >> steve: during what we've heard so far, she worked at the sba, ran a wrestling league. part of sba stuff is applicable because so much of the department of education are student loans. >> you got it, i had a brief conversation wither had, she said i don't know education literature. i said, advantage one, linda, most of the literature is on the wrong track. common sense, teach kids how to read, write, count and thing and develop standards of right and wrong. half of prices are student loans, 1.7 trillion in student loans are owed. federal government, only federal government would do this, count those 1.7 million loans owed
