here we are in a broadway theater. what was your first experience in a broadway theater?e beginning of my career, i had just moved to new york city and had gotten a job doing a production of "kiss me kate" of the dinner theater in connecticut and it was fantastic and i was so excited. we rehearsed. we did tech, opened the show in the next morning after opening night, i woke up in my tonsils had abscessed and i couldn't talk. i couldn't swallow, and i couldn't sing. i lost the job. because i couldn't do it. i came back to new york with my tail between my legs and my survival job boards office work because i learned to type in seventh grade. pay attention in school, children. i learned to type in seventh grade, i could do office work and i was working at an accounting firm. one of my coffee cooler meets happen to be the son of lena horne's manager and he told me they were casting background singers for her show. i should talk to my agent about it. long story short, i did. i was cast in the show and on the stage with the legendary lena horne when i was 22 years old. it was a

that forum is set for uptown station on broadway at six tonight. this comes as oakland council members sort through a new round of painful budget cuts. one member says they were blindsided by this decision and on social media last week, finance committee member jenny ramachandran indicated 13 nonprofits are losing funding midyear. she called it a unilateral move by the city administrator to save about $2.5 million. opponents say the groups all provide critical services, including housing and health, to a wide range of people in need. they are holding a news conference later today. also today, alameda county leaders will swear in their new district attorney following a two week delay. supervisors last week chose ursula jones dixon to fill the term of recalled district attorney pamela price. dixon worked in the da's office for 14 years before she became a county judge in 2013. her prior commitments on the bench are believed to be what led to that swearing in delay. voters are still expected to elect a new district attorney next year. construction is
