joining us now, msnbc political analyst juanita tolliver and former florida republican congressman carlos curbelo. so, carlos, the latest cbs news poll shows the president with a 53% approval rating after his first three weeks in office. what do you make of that? well. it means that. >> the president. >> is doing. >> a lot. >> of the things that the american people elected. >> him. >> to do. the coalition he put. >> together wanted him to be. this radical change agent. now, that doesn't mean that he has free reign. we also saw in that same poll, for example, that while. >> people support. >> tariffs on on china, they are less supportive of tariffs on our neighbors canada and mexico. so how the president does what he has been elected to do matters. we are also seeing in how he reforms the federal government, right. how that happens matters if they go too fast, if they act in a way that seems abusive or mistreating of federal employees, that could end up backfiring and hurting his momentum. but so far, so good. in terms of the president's numbers, he has rarely had numbers this high. well. >> he's

back with us, former congressman carlos curbelo. ryan, going into this, everyone was watching republican senator bill cassidy. he is a doctor, a trained doctor. what led him to ultimately support kennedy? >> well, he said that he got quite a few assurances from kennedy and from the trump administration about the exact role that robert f kennedy jr would play as the secretary of health and human services. he said that kennedy vowed to be in close contact with him at every stage of the game when he takes the job of hhs secretary, and he said he got specific assurances as it relates to vaccines and the government policies related to vaccines, their approval and their availability in the marketplace. listen to how cassidy explained his vote during a speech on the senate floor after the hearing today. >> i will watch carefully. >> for any. effort to wrongfully sow public fear about vaccines. between confusing references of coincidence and anecdote. but my support is built on assurances that this will not have to be a concern, and that he

also with us, former republican congressman of florida carlos curbelo.cal analyst. so, gabe, where do things stand right now as far as usaid? >> hey there jose. good morning. well, it is not entirely clear whether the trump administration actually has the legal authority to do this without congressional approval. so that's number one. now, five sources familiar with the matter tell nbc news that over the weekend, two high level administrators with usaid. two high level officials were placed on administrative leave after denying access to some sensitive computer systems within the agency. but this all appears to be part of president trump's promise to purge the federal government. in some ways, he has long railed against usaid for its work across the world. of course, the agency was started back in 1961 under president john f kennedy and has served as the us's humanitarian arm around the world. but as you just heard the president say right there, that he believes it is run by radical leftists and he plans to continue this this purge among several governme
