christie smith, nbc, bay area news. well, it has been one month since san francisco's new mayor, danielle lurie, took office. he marked the occasion by joining hundreds of volunteers with refuse refuse, an organization dedicated to cleaning up the streets. lurie helped pick up trash around van ness avenue and bay street. there were about 80 volunteers in laurie's group, including supervisors stephen sherrill and bilal mahmoud. organizers say it means a lot to get the spotlight from the mayor, who promised to clean up san francisco during his campaign. it's great to have the leader of our city elected leader of our city to support us. we as neighbors, as volunteers, grassroots volunteers have been, you know, working to try to get our city cleaner for many years now and to have, you know, his support is really great to show people that this is something that they can do to make the city a better place. organizers say joining a cleanup is an easy introduction to civic service for anyone. there's at least one cleanup in eve
