i mean, boom, san mateo coast, skyline, peninsula, santa cruz, santa cruz mountains, heading over tohe east bay. so this is a different little twist than we've seen. look at that roaring east wind. strong high pressure inland with a deep low offshore. that's a robust i mean that's funneled. so you're getting a strong south southeast breeze. i think the pressure on the low out there is about 2950. i think i saw that. but 40s on the 50s we had 30s, believe it or not, early this morning. so this is the initial system that goes through. this is the warm sector and then the front. and then you have to have the low come by. so the heavier amounts look to be more towards santa cruz mountains. although later today i think it picks up for areas like san rafael and napa. and so far almost every forecast model has lesser amounts for santa rosa. maybe this time will happen, but i don't trust this system because the cold air and the low has to move through later today, which will keep rain in the forecast. a winter storm warning has already started in the mountains that goes through friday. so he

right now, a view on our storm ranger shows scattered areas of rain, including around the santa cruz mountains, but not much rain in san jose. this is the santa clara valley rain shadow effect underway where you got rising air over here on the west side of the santa cruz mountains. as the air comes up, rain falls on that side. then as the air drops down towards san jose, it tends to dry out. that's the reason why we've had about three inches of rain around ben lomond, but almost nothing in san jose. this particular upper air pattern is not good for producing a lot of rain around the south bay, but that is about to change big time tomorrow night into tuesday as a strong front passes through. we're talking wind gusts up to 45mph and potentially some heavy rain at times. san francisco southward. as we head into tuesday, we'll have a closer look at this storm, hour by hour and a colder storm on the way that could bring snow levels down to the higher peaks of the bay area later this week. coming up in just a few minutes. all right, rob, thanks. and you can track the next round of rain rob

you can see, you know, is we cut into the santa cruz mountains. that's really where some of these heavier showers have been falling. still and we'll continue to through the south bay and the kind of working their way out as we go through the afternoon. so that has caused some concern here. and you can see we do have a flood advisory until one 45 pm right now in around parts of the peninsula down your silicon valley. so, you know, it doesn't mean that we're totally done yet, but we're awfully close, everybody. so just be careful. we also have that flood advisory in place for some of our creeks and streams that are up in the north bay in and around santa rosa. and that goes until midnight on a saturday. so that is because they are still waiting for some of those to kind of dropped down and and get those levels back down to a good place. but for the most part, the bulk of this is gone by. we are now just kind of wrapping it up. as i mentioned, wind is calm and that will stay that way as we go through today. and just a quick look here at temperatures

the estimate from the weather prediction center, 3 inches of rain around half moon bay, the santa cruzp over 6 inches of rain, about 2 1/2 for san francisco, heftiest amounts in the north bay, 3 to 4 inches of additional rainfall. some of the individual forecast models are a little variable in terms of how much additional rain will add up in these specific spots, but it's enough we have to watch for the potential again of at least localized flooding over the next few days and watch for the potential of at least some wind damage. the winds are blustery, but the wind advisory is the primary concern through about midday tomorrow. the winds will be noticeable tonight and drive time tomorrow morning, but in the 25 to 35-mile-per-hour range for the strongest gusts. that changes tomorrow afternoon. we see 30 to 40, 45 to 50-mile-an-hour gusts, strong enough to stress the power grid and would lead to the potential of a few more power outages. make sure the devices are charged up. in the sierra this is a snowmaker, about a foot or 2 of snow as the snow levels drop down from where they were this

another area that we've been keeping a close eye on as well is the santa cruz mountains. as you know, highway 17 can quickly turn dangerous. and as we see this line of showers still moving through, that is definitely an area that we're going to monitor closely. now, in addition to our local rain, we're also, of course, monitoring what's going on out in the sierra. we've got winter storm warnings in place, definitely not recommending any sort of travel to the sierra right now. that window of opportunity might come as soon as tomorrow, but i think your best bet would be the weekend. but before we get to that, i do want to check in with our own rob mayeda, who's been keeping a close eye on the watches and the wind. yeah, still in the middle of the flood watches bay area wide, as you did see during the day, as much as five inches of rain fell in san rafael and in the santa cruz mountains, now near ben lomond, we're approaching five inches. so these are the areas we're going to watch through 4 a.m. but this area in red at the top of the newscast, you saw that home in the mudsl

but locally i expect to see higher totals in the santa cruz mountains and the north bay as well. so as we head into wednesday, we're hoping that that is the break day. you can see how fast the storm is trying to come in though. wednesday a mainly dry day. then thursday, the next round of rain comes in. and here is what is potentially the biggest snow day of the year so far on friday. things aligning well there for the sierra and maybe good timing where next weekend's plans are concerned. right now. saturday and sunday trending dry. if you want to check out that snow, things should be clearing out by next weekend, but it's a stormy start to the week i think. tomorrow morning. not too bad. kind of like we had this weekend. but tomorrow night into tuesday that will be the mainn evt. we'll see wind, heavy rain at times. tuesday we get the midweek break, thursday and friday a little more rain,hen perhaps some clearing on the way for the weekend, but colder nights ahead. we'll be back into those morning 30s around the bay area as early as wednesday morning. wow. so february really tryi

as i mentioned, the santa cruz mountains affecting the peninsula, the south bay. and then you can see up in the north bay. we are still under that flood advisory and that does have to do with all the creeks and streams there that still have to kind of come back down. and so that does go until midnight tonight. so that is one area that we're still keeping an eye on. as i zoom out, though, you can see where this system now really has started to kind of push across, although it's still giving a little bit of snow. the sierra a little bit of rain in parts of california, mostly now in central california. but we are looking good on our roads. certainly a big difference from yesterday. now as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge and you notice we just have like a light breeze. when you look at the flag here, nothing too crazy happening as well. so step in the right direction. temperatures out there. we are sitting in the 50's and this is about the heat of the day here. so just expecting those mid to upper 50's today and that is about the end of that. and then to

but as it comes over the santa cruz mountains, we expect the intensity to increase.nd for the bay area, there is a flood watch in effect until 4:00 tomorrow morning. so with the coastal mountains and some of the creeks and streams that may rise very quickly, you want to make sure that you do not drive where water covers the road. the russian river, guerneville is under a flood watch and we are under the action stage, expecting it to peak early on wednesday morning up to about 29ft. so that's going to rise fairly quickly, but not expected to hit that minor flood stage. but it could change depending on how heavy that rain comes down throughout the day. and as we go into this evening, some pockets of heavy rain once again, that chance of thunderstorms. and at 9:00, we're pretty much taking a break from all of this. but that cold air will come in and into the day tomorrow. we are seeing a mix of sun and clouds, with the new storm system arriving on thursday. that is going to come along with that cold air as well. so in total we're looking at another two inches of rainfal
