i'm jessica aguirre. terrifying morning for a san francisco neighborhood. people who live in the city's duboce street triangle say they woke up to gunfire early monday morning. now, they didn't find any victim. not anyone shot. but police say cars and houses were hit by a barrage of bullets. nbc quintana is in the city with more. a tow truck arrived tuesday afternoon to haul away one of two crashed cars that are parked at castro street, near waller. if you look closely at the windshield of the toyota sedan, you can see a bullet hole. residents who live nearby say the sound of gunfire woke them up about 330 early monday morning. i was sound asleep, but all of a sudden back back, back back, back multiple times. i thought 12 times. my wife said it was many more. she's a lighter sleeper than me. according to supervisor rafael mandelman's office, police recovered 17 casings on scene. it was the end of a chase that started a few blocks away in castro. that's where the victim left a nightclub in the neighborhood and was followed by two different cars. those cars a

and i'm jessica aguirre.he storms that hit the bay area have unfortunately proven deadly in the north bay. the floodwaters killed two people, and a third person narrowly survived thanks to the quick work of a first responder. watch. what you're looking at is body cam video that captured the dramatic rescue of a marin county woman trapped in her water filled car after she hit a puddle and then slid into a creek. what you're seeing is a marin county sheriff's deputy pulling her out just in time. now farther north, the news tragic sonoma county first responders recovered a man's body in unincorporated santa rosa this morning. now, they believe that that man entered the water either on foot or on a bicycle, and lost his life. and another man in unincorporated calistoga was found dead in a culvert last night. his neighbors believe he was trying to clear the creek when he got caught in that water. and our message to the public is always, you know, stay vigilant. please keep yourself safe. we commonly talk about tur

i'm garvin thomas and i'm jessica aguirre.e're going to start with some breaking news just into the newsroom. a small plane crash in northeast philadelphia. this video just into the newsroom. crash happened about two hours ago near the roosevelt mall and lexington park. that's three miles from the northeast philadelphia airport, which mostly serves business jets and charter flights. now, the plane is a midsize twin engine learjet. reports say there were two people on board and that it was heading to missouri. we don't know exactly what caused the crash or whether there were any injuries or fatalities on the ground. of course, we're going to continue to monitor this. when new information comes to the newsroom, we will pass it along to you. all right. let's bring you back here to the bay area. finally, for the first time since early january, rain and a good amount of it is coming back. in fact, the rain has already started moving into the area today. you saw it and it could stick around for a few days. let's begin this evening w

and i'm jessica aguirre. chiren being held by immigration agents in the bay area may have just lost their best hope, their attorneys. the trump administration cut the funding to a program that pays attorneys who represent immigrant children living in this country without their parents. nbc bay area sergio quintana has that story. at legal services for children in downtown san francisco, there's a mural on their lobby wall that was done by teenage artists. this is a team that services some of the most at-risk youth in the bay area. it's a lot of young people who are particularly vulnerable, who have been abused, exploited. yesterday they got a notice from the federal government to stop work on their contract to provide legal services to their young clients. in fact, one of their attorneys was in immigration court yesterday with one of their clients. when that work stop order from the administration was issued and the attorney had to continue with the proceeding because the attorneys are legally obligated to. t

and i'm jessica aguirre. another bay area safeway store is closing. safeway says it will permanently close one of its vallejo markets in april. the pleasanton based company is citing financial and safety concerns. this is going to be the third local safeway to close this year. here's nbc's jodi hernandez. i think this is a local store that everybody goes to, and i'm very sad that they're shutting down. that's how many vallejo safeway shoppers are feeling tonight after learning their admiral callahan lane safeway will soon be closing for good. i'm going to miss the employees. it's like a family store. when you've been coming here for so many years. safeway just announced it will permanently close the store near vallejo. in and out restaurant on april 11th. in a statement, they said this decision was made after careful consideration and evaluation of the store's financial performance and ongoing safety concerns. i would imagine that wherever there's less law, there's going to be less stores. people will pull out. much of the store's inventory is under l

i'm jessica aguirre. hundreds of court workers in the east bay walked off the job today, the newest turn in an ongoing contract dispute over pay and training. now, the strike did not shut down courthouses, but it did disrupt operations. the union and the workers are hoping that will get the attention of their supervisors. here's nbc bay area's thom jensen. alameda county courtrooms were closed and processing court filings and other documents disrupted. as hundreds of union employees hit the picket lines across the county. our point was to get the court's attention so that they can start prioritizing the workers so that we can get back in there and prioritize the public. union president keisha clark says 99% of the union's 400 plus workers approved the strike. she says they're overworked, undertrained and underpaid, and the county won't bargain fairly on any of the issues. cola is an issue. i mean, we live in the bay area. the cost of living folks can't afford eggs. folks can't afford gas. so cost of livin

i'm jessica aguirre. and i'm garvin thomas.e're going to start with this new round of rain and wind that is slamming the bay area. now, a wind advisory does remain in effect, but those flood warnings have been downgraded. flooding in the north bay is now believed to have taken two lives. bay area agencies are urging people to take caution out on the roads. our cameras spotted that rainy commute earlier today from san jose all the way down south. let's take you outside right now. live where it is still coming down, but those downpours are turning into scattered showers. you can see even in san francisco. there on the upper right, the skies are clearing and our storm ranger is up on san bruno mountain tracking it all. the gre thing about storm ranger is that it's closer to the ground, so it gets you a scan that is better of your neighborhood. it means it sees all the rain, all the fog and smoke. taking accuracy to the next level. all right, let's take accuracy to the next level by beginning with our chief meteorologist, jeff rani

i'm jessica aguirre and i'm gia vang.ell, after a couple of days of sunshine, rain is returning to the bay area that it is an atmospheric river barreling toward california, and we're expected to get a good amount of rain. now, it's calm right now, but that is going to change. this is a live look at san francisco, san jose and oakland. certainly overcast. and let's take a look at the radar right now. there is that green off the coast right there. it's showing up with much more to follow. our storm ranger is active on the san bruno mountain as well. it's tracking the incoming storm like only it can. since it's closer to the ground, it gathers a more accurate radar. now. this time it is the south bay expected to get hit the hardest, and crews are focused on clearing out those drains to try to prevent that flooding. nbc bay area's marianne favro kicks off our coverage in san jose. so are people heeding the warning? are people getting ready? oh, yeah, they're getting out their sandbags. and i like to call this the cold before

i'm jessica aguirre. we're going to start with that deluge that is headed our way. atmospheric river is here. and the worst of it could just be a few hours away. it is shaping up to be a wet morning tomorrow all across the bay area. let's take you outside. this is the time lapse video of the past hour. you can see the clouds growing darker as the sun sets. the latest round of rain just moving in now. now, often the south bay gets spared from the worst of it, but this week's rain is expected to be different. in san jose, city crews are digging out leaves, mud and debris all the things that clog storm drains. valley water doing the same along the moving downed trees that could block waterways and cause flooding. and check it out. snow? yes, a dusting of it in the bay area. it briefly blanketed the top of mount hamilton this morning before it melted away. i want to bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. i know, jeff, you've been saying that really it's going to start in that early morning hours. is that still the target? that really is. and i think the other b

and i'm jessica aguirre. pain full and of major concern to so many of us. you may have noticed gas prices are going up. aaa says it's sort of the perfect storm with a lot of things happening at once. and these higher prices, unfortunately, may be sticking around for a while. nbc damian trujillo is in san jose on gas watch. drivers say this could not have come at a worse time with gas prices creeping up. food prices are high and many are paying the price, but lower is constantly on at bay land landscaping. moises aguayo and his crew will hit around ten homes today, and that means he'll need more fuel for his tools and more fuel for his truck. and that all adds up with gas prices in some places. now back above $5 a gallon with expensive man. everything is expensive. nothing we can do about it. do you have to raise your prices? i do, but they don't give me the kris. they just say no. you know, everybody is bad right now. right now, triple a says the state average is 4.84 per gallon. san francisco is 5.15. that's a 40 cent jump from only one month ago. there ar
