kron 4 dot com.rump's education department is scrapping a biden era plan to pay collegiate athletes for their name image and likeness or the nil biden's plan was to use the money like financial aid for athletes, and it was to be split evenly between men and women's sports using title 9. the education department says title 9 does not say anything about compensation to today. they got rid of this new rule. a decision that set to impact hundreds of students in san jose is being pusned until the end of the month after parents, students and teachers rallied at that school board meeting to not close any schools. the franklin mckinley school district is considering a proposal to close 5 schools and lay off 50 teachers. the school board says this is due to a 40% drop in enrollment since 2010. that has caused a budget deficit at last night's board meeting, parents expressed just how devastating it would be if any of the schools closed. that is the goal of this district to put kids first. >> put them first tod

kron four's lindsey ford has reaction. but first, kron 4 shock moment is live in martinez tonight with the very latest jack. >> yeah, that's right, stephanie. after more than 8 hours that shelter-in-place order is finally lifted, meaning people can finally leave their homes if they choose to do so. but while this fire dies down, we still have some injuries to report. like you said, 6 people were injured. the fire department tells me 4 of those people were taken to the hospital. 2 of the people were treated here on with minor injuries. but out of those 4 people who were treated at the hospital, 3 of them have now been released. there is one more person admitting up the hospital still being monitored. and as you can see behind me, this fire is still going on with a lot of those flares and investigation will be starting soon. now, crews at one point didn't know what this fire would take hours or even days to put under control and much of the burden comes from hydrocarbon being burned, which is where we saw a lot about black s

joey horta kron, 4 news. thank you, joe. >> it is 10. 0, 5, meantime in the south bay, san jose firefighters say they've been seeing an increase in fire, started at homeless encampments each year about 3,000 fires in homeless encampments just last year alone. and the firefighters union says it's dangerous. something's got to change jack moment takes a look. union representatives with the san jose firefighters tell us that they usually respond to around 3 to 4 encampment fires every single day. >> during the dry months, that number could increase to 10 or 20 calls every day we come to work. we know that there's a possibility for this type of danger for san jose fire. captain jerry may encampment fires like this one captured by kron 4 news last summer happened way too often. it's increased tremendously over the last 10 to 15 years since i've been here, the data comes from 2024. incident reports within the fire department data was first requested by the san jose spotlight and out of the 4,600 non structure fires

let's go in kron 4 news. thank you. lezla. >> oakland city employees, many of whom were recently let go from their jobs rallying today in front of city hall saying that the city is putting public safety at risk and harming their community in an effort to close 130 million dollar budget shortfall. the city has laid off or will lay off around 100 workers across 18 city departments, almost half of those layoffs are in either the public works or police departments. oakland has also frozen police department over time closed to fire stations and reduced funding for art and culture programs. >> it said of tackling our financial problems head on. the administration is choosing to balance the budget on the backs of the very workers who keep our city running. >> the city, meanwhile, warns that additional layoffs and service reductions may be necessary. but so far has not detailed where those cuts would be made. >> with storm we've been talking about will also affect southern california. and although rain is very needed down there
