larry gerston, thank you so much. raj. let's move on to some other headlines tonight. all-star weekend has come and gone. san francisco basking in the international spotlight. but away from the spotlight. an update now from the warriors about their partnership with local prisons. the twinning project started in the uk five years ago. it paired premier league soccer teams with local prisons for a six week camp. the program came here to the u.s. after the warriors decided to partner with those organizers. the goal is to teach inmates how to become basketball coaches, which will give them skills to be leaders and role models. my mentor keith honestly did for me. i'm doing it for other people. and it's not. it's not just because i'm a samaritan. i just feel like it's my responsibility. i've been given that platform. some of them did some bad things, and they're trying to change their lives for the better. once the inmates finish this program, they'll get a qualification that could improve their chances of employment when released. more than 20 people have graduated from th

that's coming up in about 30 minutes from now w with nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston. local activists upset over the recent immigration and customs enforcement raids, rallied and marched yesterday in san jose. our ancestors have been traveling up and down this continent for thousands of years. this march in particular started at emma prusch farm park on south king road in san jose. indigenous leaders say they see the label of immigrant as inaccurate and insulting, since their ancestors have been here long before the crowd grew even larger. after marching to a nearby shopping center, where more speers took the bullhorn. now to a follow up to the san carlos airport. it is going to be fully staffed. this after air traffic controllers reached an agreement with the faa. the two were at odds over contract negotiations earlier this week. the air traffic controllers are asking for higher pay and threatened to leave the air traffic tower empty if an agreement was not met. luckily, leaders finished negotiations on friday. february is the beginning of black history month, and the

nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston joins me on set now. hi, larry.is morning. trump says he's putting america first. so what are we to make of this? well, that's you're right. that's what he says. and by putting america first, that means everything is second. right. and so we don't want to spend any resources anyplace. we don't have to. so people think about foreign aid, which trump has cited as a big drain on the us economy, why we could be doing so many other things. we know what if you take a poll as as we've done and ask people, how much money do we spend on foreign aid? they think we spend 31% of the national budget on foreign aid. that's how much money people think we spend on foreign aid. but look at the next one. how much do we actually spend on foreign aid? 1% kira 1% of the budget is spent on foreign aid. now, about half of that is on usaid, which has programs at 170 nations around the world. just that little tiny program. yet these have been targeted by president trump as things to do away with. and i understand even, you know, one of seco

our political analyst, larry gerston joins us. he's going to talk about the president's motivation for these tariffs and how much it could ultimately cost you every year. now, back to the issue of immigration and the president's massive crackdown. nbc news has learned that some migrants arrested by ice agents have been released back into the u.s. the reason space limitations and court orders. in a statement to nbc news, an ice spokesperson says federal court cases limit ice from detaining people indefinitely if their countries refuse to take them back. that's resulted in some migrants being sent back to the u.s. on a monitoring program. since taking office, president trump and his allies have touted immigration operations in cities like chicago and new york. ice has posted arrest figures daily on social media, but it does not say how many of those arrested are released and how many remain in detention or have already been deported. all right, let's talk about that mid-air collision of the american airlines jet and the military hel

earlier today, we asked our political analyst, larry gerston,o weigh in. actually, it's only reasonable to expect that the doj will be suing california. certainly, they're going to go after areas where there are sizable numbers of undocumented immigrants. california has more than anybody else. add to that the fact that this is one of ten sanctuary states, if it's a matter of a serious crime, a felony, then the state and the local governments tend to help. but if it's a matter of misdemeanors or just being here, then the state and local governments that are sanctuary cities are not likely to help. the doj wants them to help no matter what. you know where these people are. tell us the states and cities that have sanctuary status are saying, we have no reason to tell you that. find them yourselves. so it't's ing to be a good one. and it will ultimately affect huge swaths of the country and potentially millions of undocumented immigrants here as well. okay. thank you very much, larry. let's switch gears. also tonight, nba all-star week has finally arrived. the
