thanks, roberta. and despite the much needed break in the rain, the concern now is this over saturated ground. fire officials are keeping a close eye on a landslide that has already severely damaged two homes and is threatening others. they're also warning drivers to stay off those flooded roadways after they had to rescue people who had to climb onto the roofs of their cars after getting trapped. ktvu is amber lee has our report. >> sonoma county fire district shared this video of a crew responding to a swift water rescue. the fire inspector tells me a man was trapped in his car after driving on a flooded road in guerneville wednesday afternoon. it was among a dozen rescues in just the past two days. >> i've been avoiding driving around those roads as much as i can. there's only so much you can do. a lot of roadways definitely have been blocked. >> sonoma county sheriff's responded to france valley road northwest of calistoga also wednesday afternoon, and found a person dead in a culvert on a private

roberta, how does it look out there? >> i got to tell you, mark tamayo is all over it, as has been rosemary and bill today. but mark was saying how the colder air mass filtering in. yes. about an hour ago, we were driving all throughout the tri-valley. the temperature was bouncing between 56 and 58 degrees. we put it to a stop. we wanted to come to main street, pleasanton and see if people were out and about. after the rain has finally stopped and the temperatures now 46 degrees. now, i've been watching the ribbon on this lamp post here and it wavers from time to time. the winds have been out of the south at eight miles per hour. occasionally we get a stronger gusts that adds to the chill, but the rain has ceased, at least for the moment. but keep in mind, as mark was mentioning, that flood watch is still in effect for much of the bay area until about 4:00 tomorrow morning, as is the wind advisory as well. so we jumped in our car earlier today. we started driving out and about all around the bay area. one thing i have to

thanks, roberta. well, this little guy is now in the care of the spca monterey county wildlife center. after they rescued him out of the water retention pond today. you can see here in this picture. this is in salinas. the center says the coyote was likely chasing prey or just looking for water. when he just got stuck and couldn't climb up the slick, steep sides. while the rescue team was able to snag him after a brief chase and is now assessing him for any injuries. since he is doing well, though, they do plan to release him back into the wild tomorrow. roberta. >> yes, we had anywhere between 2 and 4in of rain on tuesday. record amount of rainfall in the san francisco area. i just updated the very latest rainfall totals for today alone, approaching two inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. look at la honda approaching an inch and a quarter. santa rosa over an inch. same in kentfield. los gatos. that's impressive. and orinda, now approaching three quarters of an inch of rain. brentwood getting into the mix. and san jose tonight at over 3/10 of an inch of rain. in addition to this, on the other side of the coin here, we've had some very gusty winds. check out the santa cruz mountains, mount vernon at 85 mile per hour winds, and fairfield coming in at 37 mile per hour wind gusts. and we will continue to see and feel these winds throughout the overnight hours. this is a very strong warm front. it's lifting from the pacific ocean in a north and northeasterly direction as we cue in on the bay area. you see the hit and miss scattered rain sho

let's get right to meteorologist roberta gonzalez and roberta.hings are just getting started. >> yes they are. this is big. it is beautiful, but it's powerful. take a look at this. it's textbook perfect. it looks like a giant comma off the coast of california. and the particular area that's going to be hit the hardest is right here in northern california in the bay area. and precipitation slips into southern california. i just widened this image. look at how it trails off all the way to the hawaiian islands. that means it's tapping into some tropical moisture, and that means it's an atmospheric river and you can see the precipitation. these are renegade showers in front of the initial front itself. and it's already blasting the santa cruz mountains, where we've already seen over 3/10 of an inch of rain in just the last couple of hours and throughout ben lomond. and we also have some lighter precipitation. it is occurring around portions of the peninsula. how about the santa clara valley into east palo alto? pretty moderate downpour there right no

right, roberta? >> absolutely. with the saturated soil that we already have in the copious amounts of precipitation in the forecast and the winds in excess of 70mph along the coastline and santa cruz mountains, you bet there will be downed trees and the potential of downed power lines and or power outages. this is it. it's a powerful system. we have the leading edge of it now impacting the bay area. you see lots of rain showers around the santa clara valley area. we've already picked up 15/100 of an inch of rain in san jose, and nearly 2/10 in milpitas. in just the past couple of hours, east bay has got some action as well, moving out of the tri-valley towards tracy and also discovery bay and hit and miss moderate rain showers from petaluma to nicasio and novato and back through marin city, san francisco. a little bit of light rain at this hour, but let's go ahead and track it together. here it goes. 2:00 in the morning. the frontal boundary passes through the bay area, and as it slices through the winds increasing

heather. >> roberta. thank you. well, there has been a flare up at the battery storage plant in monterey county, where a huge fire broke out just last month. the fire was first reported at about 630 last night at the vistra plant in moss landing. county officials say flames ignited under a pile of rubble that had previously burned and quickly intensified. last night, people who live nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed. monterey county authorities say the fire burned and burned out at about 8:00 this morning, and advisories were lifted just this afternoon. >> residents close by are concerned or they smell smoke. they can if they if they'd like to keep their windows closed. if you must work outside and you smell smoke or you see smoke and you you may want to wear an n95 respirator. but for now, it looks like the situation is under control. >> the epa says that it has not seen any signs of adverse health effects. the building is being monitored for any further signs of rekindling. the marin count
