good morning to you, somara. >> somara: good morning, janai.still at the beginning of a multi-day rain and snow event for the pacific northwest. we've already seen snowfall in snoqualmie pass, washington. look at that car sliding there, making for a precarious situation. we even had army vehicles that had to be rescued. unfortunately, more rain and snow in the forecast. radar right now shows rain falling in northern california. they've picked up 1 to 4 inches of rain so far in norcal. this has led from a flood watch from redding to san francisco. we also have an avalanche threat for parts of the sierra nevada and there is an avalanche threat for parts of the sierra nevada including lake tahoe. this atmospheric river continues to pump moisture. we've already seen 1 to 4 inches of rain so far. the grounds in northern california are completely saturated and we are in for an additional 3 to 5. now is where we start heading into that issue of flooding and in conjunction with that we have 2 to 4 feet of snow from lake tahoe down to mammoth. look fart

hey, somara. >> somara: good morning, gio.bury as i said earlier, we picked up about 3 to 4 inches of snow. folks will definitely be waking up to clean off their cars, but this won't be the only day they'll have to dig out those cars. we've got two storms coming up in the week ahead. let's talk about this first one. monday it starts, but by tuesday it really gets going. tuesday, 5:00 p.m. in the south. we could see flooding from this, but on the northern tier of this storm, snow from the mid-atlantic. this will be a major snowmaker for places like washington, d.c., where they could see 6 inches of snow from this system. as this storm system is exiting, we have number two moving through the heartland. as we continue to see this push through time, 12:00 p.m. on wednesday, cities like chicago starting to get into the thick of it. rain still falling in the southeast. then we move ahead into thursday, and this is when it becomes another issue for places like new england where i am right now. snow in vermont, maine, upstate new york

so let's get right to somara theodore. you're tracking multiple storms. the east coast facing even more this week. >> reporter: that's correct, rachel. right now, in fact, they have already issued a winter storm watch for places like washington, d.c. into the delmarva peninsula. southern new jersey, much of west virginia and as far south as roanoke for tuesday night into wednesday morning. the storm that will bring this wintry weather into the mid-atlantic originates monday in texas bringing heavy rain to the southeast. by wednesday at 4:00 a.m., we could see up to six inches of snow in washington, d.c., and this system could brush new york city. new york city and new england, though, will certainly get hit by the second storm moving in on thursday. that thursday morning commute at 6:00 a.m. could bring heavy snow to places like syracuse and boston, while bringing more rain to the south, which could in fact lead to flooding. rachel. >> rachel: more rain and snow on the way. somara, thank you. >>> we turn now to washington and the late news from president
