steve paulson back up with us this morning for a look at your forecast. y, steve. >> i think some good news. there really hasn't been a lot of rain in santa rosa, but there's been more from about sfo with a quarter of an in south city. parts of skyline down to the santa cruz mountains where they've had a quarter to a third. i mean, that's not a lot, but santa rosa has only had a 0.04. so a little different twist here this morning. heavier rain at least associated with the first round as favored areas south and not north north though we'll get in on this later today as the surface low tracks more to the north. but i think santa cruz mountains will end up with the most out of this is kind of the way it's looking right now, but still we'll keep a quarter to maybe two inches russian river, mount tamalpais. flood watch continues. north bay thursday morning until friday morning. a couple of systems here now to get the cold front to go through. and then the low has to track and that is tracking more north. so here comes the rain again. and cloudy windy as well. r

. >> all right, let's head over to steve paulson for a look at our forecast. when is this lovely sunny weather going to change to rain, steve? >> well, it will change to a lot of clouds here pretty soon. and then rain comes in this evening. heavier tonight. tomorrow morning looks to be 4 a.m. to about 10 a.m, i think is the window for the heaviest rain. it sure looks like santa cruz mountains will lead the way. there could be 5 to 6 isolated amounts. i mean, i'm just going on the extreme levels there, but also russian river. cazadero is usually in the mix, mount tamalpais, but even out to the east bay locations, i mean, 2 to 2 and a half and even south bay 2 to 3 would be a good system, and this one does have everything going for it as far as being a good system. hopefully it will move through pretty rapidly, and that should help ease up some of them. but the intense rainfall rates associated with this will definitely cause some issues. had some light rain overnight. not a lot about southern marin county, san francisco, oakland peninsula down to the santa cruz

steve paulson, let's go ahead and talk about what people are facing out around the bay area. >> well, it's raining, as you know. so far the heaviest has been south. that's the good news. not a lot. a quarter to a third of an inch from about sfo down towards santa cruz mountains. lesser amounts up around santa rosa. but that's going to pick up. i should also add there's some rain and snow mix up in lake county. thank you to chloe for that. mount tamalpais is 37 degrees. mount diablo is 38, so maybe the highest peaks might get in a little bit. it's a rain snow mix. i just think there's not enough cold air, but there's going to be more cold air on the way. the problem is that cold air, by the time it arrives, there probably won't be a lot of moisture. boulder creek and bonny doon have both picked up a third of an inch this morning. sfo a quarter. san francisco 18/100. redwood city 17. atherton's head 16. kentfield was also at 16. hayward and oakland 12 and santa rosa in town only a 0.04. but that's going to change a little bit later. system. we had the warm front sector go through and th

this is the big rain day we've been warned about by our meteorologist, steve paulson. it was a two hands on the wheel kind of drive. >> no doubt. yeah. no doubt. although it looks like there is a back edge for some to the north, but i don't think any respite is going to last too long. there's some pretty intense bands so far. marin county has just been a runaway winner on rainfall totals for 24 hours, with 2 to 3 plus, so also now starting to take aim at the santa cruz mountains. this will be, i think, a pretty good event for them. the cold air associated with that low is also dropping down and enhancing that system to the west southwest. so any break is not going to last too long. could be anywhere from 1 to 4 easily here. winter storm warning and a wind advisory on the coast range. there is a flood warning for parts of sonoma county, especially around the russian river. some rapid rises there, 50s on the temps here and i would look for additional rain. not only today. we'll get some on thursday. then i think we get a little bit of a break, but could be another 2 to 4

steve paulson i mean, for as cold as we start, the afternoons warm up so nicely. >> they do indeed, at least for february. that is true. we'll get upper 60s to maybe 70. we'll take a look at climate data though. going back here. climate history on record lows. and the winner for today was san jose at 25 degrees back in 1897. livermore was 28. in 2006, kentfield, napa, gilroy and santa cruz all in there back to 1953 55, 1976 and 1955. but san jose, you'll never see that again. probably too much cement and buildings and all that. the city 36, 1890, on their record low 77. the record high, 1985. we're going 6348 today. pretty close to average. the record rain on this date was way back in 1867, with 2.25in of rain fell. san francisco had rain two days ago. picked up a point zero for anything else. nothing in february. i think we're done with february, but the key is the city picked up 6.68in of rain in about two weeks, so that pushed them above the average of 4.90. but i think we're quiet until probably around the 3rd to the 6th of march. some of the longer range forecast models definitely
