but the worst of looks like it is past much of the bay area. now, the focus now moving further south. still some scattered showers elsewhere, but the heavier amounts of rain really in the south bay. but boy, we've had numerous reports of storm issues and these are some of the storm reports around the bay area in the north bay. yeah, we have reports of a tree down now that was pretty common across the bay area with these gusty winds in calistoga as those winds really whipped up. in fact, how about that would occur? had a of 83 miles per hour. i mean, that is just phenomenal. strong wind gusts there further south. reports of trees down in the brisbane. this actually on top of a person there that some dangers tough as those winds are whipping through. in fact, so toga had a wind gust at 50 miles per hour. very strong around the bay area. so wind advisory still remain in effect. but further south now into the peninsula, the south bay, the san jose area becomes continue to see some very gusty winds there that will go throughout the evening hours. and

now, the thunderstorm possibility covers a wide area of the bay area. that thunderstorm warning we just got is for this area, southern marin county, the city of san francisco, and parts of san mateo county. as the thunderstorm cell was sited about 14 miles west of pacifica, moving generally towards san francisco at about 50mph, so that possibility of thunderstorms for the wider area is in effect until 7 p.m. that thunderstorm warning is expected to expire at 3.30, so right now we still have this strong level three storm that's producing heavy rainfall, strong downpours, as you can see in the area indicated here by the darker colors swinging right through the central part of the bay area right now, along with the heavy downpours, we have strong gusty winds gusting over 50mph in some locations by about 8:00 tonight, though, we expect the bulk of this storm to be east of the bay area and out of here. but until then, we have more stormy weather right on through the evening commute, and we have a flood watch in effect for the entire bay area until midnight to

some parts of the bay area? yes, but some parts there just kind of get into the south bay. >> and the east bay, it is really rip it in those parts of the bay area right now. but it has been coming down heavily as we head through the afternoon hours. still plenty of rain out over san francisco. very wet out there on the roads. dangerous driving conditions. everywhere you go. 7 tail. yeah, you're right. in the thick of things right now and you can see all the rain coming down their dangerous driving conditions there. folks moving slow out there as well. and that's for good reason. we've got flood watches posted for the entire bay area. and so we are seeing some flooding in spots. but you can see a lot of ponding on many of the roadways making it extra dangerous to drive out there. so be very, very careful. in the meantime, some flood warnings have been issued in sonoma county. we're looking to the mark west creek in the green valley creek have crested their banks and are currently flooding. also, we are looking at

flood watches still posted across the entire bay area until saturday evening. as we're expecting more of that rain to come and the possibility of quick river rises in creek rises around the bay area. so we've seen the rain continuing on and off throughout the afternoon. and you just see these pockets of showers rolling on through. but embedded in those you can see just to our north. well, we've got some heavy amounts of rain make your way in toward martinez se, you see some heavier brain, paul downpours there as well. and some of that toward richmond as well. and then as you make your way for their city east, you're seeing more rain on the way. so you see more of that with the possibility of those thunderstorms and the rotation just off the coastline is going to keep things going. wave after wave of moisture likely to race on shore as we head throughout the night tonight. so it'll be sporadic. it'll be coming in, fits and spurts overnight tonight. it's tomorrow morning. but then i think after that, we'll start to dry things out. still, flood advisories in effect

well, uniting the bay area through sport, that is the mission of the bay area host committee, a nonprofit to showing off the region to the world. first up, as i mentioned, the nba all star, the first of three global sporting events in the bay area. i chatted with former san francisco giants world champion hunter pence, who still lives in san francisco, on his favorite places to take visitors, and his role on the committee. there's going to be over 500,000 people visiting the bay area. you know, the nba all star game. there's going to be the fifa world cup and super bowl 60 coming next year. never been done before. you've been tapped to be on the advisory board for the bay area host committee. because of what you've done for your sport and the positive influence you have on the community. what's your role on the board? we have these open conversations of asking everyone, how can we do this better? what is it that we want people to see? how can we make this happen? and one of the other things that the bay area host committee is really invested in is how can we create opportunities for jobs,

and the particular area that's going to be hit the hardest is right here in northern california in the bayrea. and precipitation slips into southern california. i just widened this image. look at how it trails off all the way to the hawaiian islands. that means it's tapping into some tropical moisture, and that means it's an atmospheric river and you can see the precipitation. these are renegade showers in front of the initial front itself. and it's already blasting the santa cruz mountains, where we've already seen over 3/10 of an inch of rain in just the last couple of hours and throughout ben lomond. and we also have some lighter precipitation. it is occurring around portions of the peninsula. how about the santa clara valley into east palo alto? pretty moderate downpour there right now. and then as you're driving 680 south or north, it is very slippery when wet as you go all the way into the tri valley. you can see the lines of moderate showers just lining the bay side all the way into castro valley. light precipitation now in the north bay hasn't amount to much as of yet, only over a

the town hall. bay area leaders are taking part in today as a federal crackdown continues across the nation. this is today in the bay. boy, is it a soggy thursday morning in the bay area. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. what first, as this most recent storm is moving across the bay area, our storm ranger is sitting atop san bruno mountain scanning the skies. this is the bay area's only mobile doppler radar, helping bring you the most accurate forecast. this storm comes following last week's storm, which caused damage in the north bay. much of that area is still saturated this morning. let's head over to meteorologist kari hall this morning. she's monitoring the rain, and we've got a flood advisory. yes. so they issued the flood advisory out way ahead of the storm. and so that means that we're watching out for that possibility of street flooding, as well as rising creeks and streams. and then we can see this large storm system as it is moving directly into the bay area. thi

national weather service has issued flood watches for the entire bay area. not expecting the main rivers, our main creeks to rise above flood stage. but general flooding around the bay area's. that means if you're driving around, watch out for some of those underpasses, you can see ponding out there on the roadways. and of course, some of the drainage areas where you may get some of the leaves and maybe branches stuck in the drain. you'll watch some minor flooding in those locations. so watch out throughout the bay area as we've got a long way to go with this storm system. first about of the rain coming through right now. but you can see that long train of moisture just off the coastline. boy, you could draw a line all the way to the hawaiian islands with that system. that means we're tapping some tropical moisture and that warm air tend to hold more moisture. and when you get enough dynamics in the back side to help squeeze it out, get a whole lot of rain in a short amount of time. and that's where we're expecting to see right now. you see that rain kind of

all across the bay area. we had some pockets of heavier rain earlier this morning, but that has since moved off to the east, and we're still watching out for the possibility that some of these downpours may also come with some rumbles of thunder and some gusty winds. we also have a wind advisory in effect. so a lot of impacts here as we see this storm system moving in very quickly. and that widespread rain all across the bay area. for san francisco it has gotten lighter. but because we did have the burst of heavy rain earlier this morning, there may be some standing water on the roadways. and just that reminder to never drive where water covers the road. you just don't know how deep it is. and we are also seeing that rain picking up from morgan hill to gilroy, and we just had so much in the north bay, we're at a surplus. even before this storm of 13in, we've already gotten our yearly rainfall. we've surpassed that. and that's the reason why we've had so many flooding issues in the north bay. but we are still r

the north bay. this is significant rainfall across the entire bay area. and a lot of rainfall is expected in the santa cruz mountains. boulder creek over four inches of rainfall. walnut creek over two inches. san francisco approaching an inch and a half. and we still have this. we still have a flood watch in place through saturday evening. but most of the rain is happening today. and you heard about the winds, high wind warnings out for the santa cruz mountains, out toward the coast and for san francisco, and wind advisories for other portions of the bay area. so significant rainfall and also some very strong winds as well, potentially damaging winds. we showed you the rainfall reports and here's a look at the radar. so active all morning long. it looks like we have some thunderstorms detected out just outside of the lodi area this afternoon. so there is the chance of some of the thunderstorm activity throughout the day. here is a look at the map here. we're basically covered with green showing you flood advisories with different expiration times. so this

right now, the rain has begun around the bay area. very slick out there on local roads to backing things up. lot more traffic now as you're making away across the bay bridge at this time, is that rain has really kicked into gear to slow things down there out there on the roads. now the national weather service has extended their flood watches to the entire bay area through sunday evening. i think the bulk of the rain is going to come through tonight and through the day tomorrow, we're talking about a lot of rain in a short amount of time. not expecting that reeks or the rivers to overflow their banks, at least for the most part, going to see some rapid rise. but you'll see some backups in some of the drainage areas. maybe you do have some leaves are some branches clock up some of the drains there. you could see some raw rapid raises and also the potential for some flooding a long way to go. you see that stream of moisture headed well off the coast line that goes all the way down the hawaiian islands. that means that a lot of subtropica

we have a flood watch in effect for the entire bay area. here's the forecast animation starting at 5 p.m. notice for this evening and going into the late night hours. the rainfall will be mainly a north bay event. very little of that is going to reach south of the golden gate between now and midnight, and even during the overnight hours, it remains generally a north bay event. but the north bay is more saturated than any other part of the bay area, so the likelihood of flooding is greater there from the continuing rainfall. again, that flood advisory flood watch is in effect for the entire bay area until 10:00 tomorrow night. flooding is possible on small rivers, streams, creeks, roadways, 1 to 3in of rain total will fall from this current storm. i'll have more on the next seven days, a little bit later on. >> yeah, timing. pretty key in this one. spencer. thank you. now, this much needed n has affected everyone from first responders to drivers just trying to navigate slippery roads. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us in
