the pacific northwest is going to get hit heavy, but here in the bay we're going to see passing cloudseft with warm weather. daytime highs throughout the bay area looks like the tracker is not working, but we're expecting 60s in the forecast throughout our coastline and our inland areas as well. it will be a nice mild forecast into this afternoon. down into the santa clara valley, 70, near san jose. we'll continue to see the 70s highlight most of the bay area as we head into early next week. let's dive into it. the area of high pressure, we can say thank you because it's keeping the atmospheric river well away from us. closer to oregon to washington where they could see anywhere up to around eight inches of rain. to add to that they could see around two feet of snow in the cascades, wind gusts 60 to 80 miles per hour. that's not our problem. just partly cloudy skies as the leftover showers are just to the north of us, closer to santa rosa as we head into sunday and monday of next week. santa rosa could see a splash but the rest of us stay dry and cloudy. speaking of dry, we'll continue

that's going take focus really on the pacific northwest. we're going kind of cuts, the trailing edge of this system moves on through as we look toward tomorrow morning. still a couple of scattered pop up. showers begin develop here in northern california. even parts of parts of northern sonoma county as well. but overall, that's going to be a light system that moves on by not let it. lot of heavy rain expected with that forecast. models begin to pick up some of that precipitation as we head through the night tonight, early tomorrow morning. so maybe a little wet early on for the commute, especially north of the golden gate bridge. you see a couple wondering showers further south. so be prepared for that kind of slides on through as we head through about the middle of the day and then we watch these kind of back off as we head toward the afternoon. so not a big event. nothing that's going to ruin your day. just be prepared for that. keep that umbrella handy with you. rainfall amounts going to be pretty light with this system compared to what

the pacific. while they will be moving generally from west to east, the storm track is being nudged a little bit further to the north. so those storms will aim their moisture, their energy. at the pacific northwest. we are going to be the dividing line for even the southern fringe of clouds. the forecast looks pretty dry until maybe we get into the first weekend of march. more on that in a second. but first let's take a look at where things stand right now as we look outside from the mark hopkins hotel. clear skies overhead. it is still nice out there this evening. everybody has retreated into the 50s but that's not bad for a february evening. these temperatures are closer to our normal daytime highs as opposed to where we are supposed to be more than an hour after the sun has gone down. with the clear skies overhead, we will continue to drop off as we head through the night but not too far. fog will not be a huge factor. some of it trying to push toward the coast. it will be more of a factor for santa cruz county. we will see some fog sneaking in from the central valley as well. this will not be a major issue from the morning commute. the sun's energy will go from warming us up from a cool but

if i pull back, notice the pacific is an active one, but most of the energy is heading into the pacific northwesta at times, and it looks like it may clip the north bay as we head into tonight through tomorrow. so we are pushing forward just past sunset sunsets just before 6 p.m. this evening. we're now at about 11 hours of daylight, so the spring equinox is definitely coming. we're within a month or so, but there's a look at all the clouds overhead at sunset. and then as we get into the evening hours and overnight hours, some of that rain drops just there on the edge of sonoma county. so we may have a few sprinkles for tonight and into tomorrow. and then we are dry and partly sunny for the afternoon once again with temperatures remaining above average for our afternoons. we do have a cool start to the morning. 43 degrees in san francisco, 47 in oakland, low 40s in napa, and some areas even in the upper 30s. areas like santa rosa reporting 39. thinking about getting out to walk the dog? well, a bit of a cool one this morning, but by noontime we are feeling good. widespread 60 in the forecast with

all that moisture will be aimed at the pacific northwest, and that's the trend that will repeat themselves over and over again, over the course of likely the next couple of weeks. the minimal rain chances in the forecast through the end of february and even into early march. but minimal doesn't necessarily mean zero. we're going to see at least a few light showers making their way into the bay area tomorrow. for the moment, all we have is the cloud cover out there, which will have an impact on the temperatures throughout the rest of tonight. looking towards the bay bridge and looking good. otherwise mid to upper 50s across the board. they will get thicker and thicker throughout the rest of tonight. even if you don't see any of those showers tomorrow, you will feel the influence tomorrow. and underneath the blanket of clouds. for wake up temperatures on wednesday, and once the showers come to an end, we will make it up to what's normal for this time of the year. those 60s in the santa clara valley and all these numbers within 1 to 2 degrees of what's normal for the 19th of february. 59 degr

the latest storm system directing most of its energy, most of its moisture towards the pacific northwestng us to the north, which will remain the case over and over again for likely the next couple of weeks. it really has been the rainy season so far of all or nothing. we had a lot of rain in november and early december. actually much of the month of december, hardly any for january and a lot to begin for february. now it's back to the dry side of the coin that is going to continue probably into the month of march. let's take a look at the rain chances as we would head through the next seven days, which will be zero. there will be some fog here and there. that's why the green line on our chat here isn't compete hadly down on the bottom of the scale. but a little bit of moisture condensing out of the fog, which is the extent of what we would see through the middle of next week. and we will be looking into a couple of days beyond next wednesday, so this will be a long stretch of dry weather. at least we added up the rain so far this month. pretty sunset skies as we would look to the east,

the center of this storm is the swirl of clouds moving towards the pacific northwest. one of the channels of moisture, one of the atmospheric river kind of you might think of it as different fingers of moisture heading towards the west coast was aimed at the bay area most of the day, but now some of that is aimed at southern california. this is dominating weather up and down the entire west coast of the u.s. for the next 24 hours or so. let's look at the rainfall amounts so far. these are the latest measured numbers from parts of the bay area. almost 5 1/2 inches around ben lomond, kentfield picking up 3 1/2 inches of moisture last night. there are parts of the tri-valley that picked up more rain than usual, redwood city almost 3 inches of rain, just over 2 inches for santa rosa, 1.7 inches for downtown san francisco and approaching 1 1/2 inches of total rainfall in san jose. there's still rain on the map now. let's look at first alert doppler. the first view shows pockets of heavier rain, one of which is making its way right into downtown san francisco. notice all the

this area of low pressure is going to provide days of rain showers for the pacific northwest, and alsobut look how far that plume extends. and you have a secondary system right there. now let's see really just how close it's going to get to the bay area. here's our futurecast again. clear skies tonight. but by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, sunup is 652. we're going to notice some partly cloudy conditions. then we clear out and really good looking day. but because of these clouds, the influx of them, i'm going to bring down the temperature just a degree or two. notice the clouds fill in rapidly on saturday morning. nice looking day. saturday night mostly cloudy, then look up stream. renegade showers invade lake county. i went ahead and merged another computer model in with this so we can see how close the rain does get to santa rosa. it looks like you may see a little drizzle overnight from saturday night to sunday morning, but that's it. the temperatures will remain above average tonight. overnight 30 and 4043 degrees in redwood shores, redwood city. how about crockett and cla

yeah, a lot of rain coming into the pacific northwest. erts in effect across parts of washington, over towards areas of oregon, idaho, parts of montana as a well. you get the idea. and the flood threat is going to be with us for a number of days here. the darker the color, the worse threat. could see us even increasing that a little bit. now, we call these things an atmospheric river, you get kind of a funnel of moisture coming into the higher levels of the sphere atmosphere. a lot of times you'll hear us often the -- talk about the pine apple express, coming from hawaii. this one coming from the philippines. look at all this moisture source it's right there to the north of honolulu, and that is that stream of moisture that's taking aim across parts of the pacific northwest. about 6,000 miles of this atmospheric river, we call it, ands it is going to hit the mountains right here and wring out a lot of moisture. a lot of areas maybe 4, 5, 6 inches of rain, some spots maybe 5-plus inches of snow, an avalanche threat as well. another story we

tracker two here, showing you that the pacific northwest does remain active sunday. we may see this rain line kind of dip just a little bit. right now it looks like down to about mendocino county. but in the meanwhile it is going to stay to the north and we are going to stay high and dry with temperatures expected to be above average by at least a few degrees. here's a look at a little bit closer here where you can see very quiet out there. winds are generally light, a variable wind reported in many areas, and our temperatures at this time very similar to yesterday, within a couple of degrees for most of us, some a little bit warmer, some a little bit cooler. half moon bay you are up by several degrees, so 64 degrees outside your door in the north bay we have 66 in novato, enjoying a low 60s in areas like livermore and the south bay. checking in right about 63. temperatures expected again to warm as we get into the coming days, and some of our inland communities likely to get into the low 70. calm conditions reported for santa rosa. novato in napa, fairfield, you have

this is going to bang up against the pacific northwest and bring copious amounts of precipitation. ughout that northwestern corner of the state of california, we will start to see the influx of a few clouds just tearing off from that frontal system there. you can see in the bay area right now we are pretty much cloud free, but the clouds will be on the approach later on tonight. so tomorrow morning, when the sun does make an appearance, that's when we'll begin to see the clouds move in from the north. we'll call it partly cloudy for openers tomorrow. and then during the afternoon we're going to play around with some clouds. some clouds blend for your afternoon, becoming mostly cloudy by saturday morning, but nonetheless, we will see more sunshine as well. and that will lead us to the temperatures still in the 70s. but look upstream. there we have the rain. we're going to track that rain for mendocino county. that's coming up next time around. plus more news with heather and christina right with fatigue and light-headedness, i knew something was wrong. then i saw my doctor and found

now this is going to be causing a lot of flooding and throughout the pacific northwest. but look at eureka. over two inches of rain, nearly four inches of rain in portland, oregon. that's by tuesday. so let's see how close it gets to the bay area. here is sun up tomorrow morning. a little hint of some fog, and then again the clouds. they stream in and they stream out. but there you have it. some of the renegade showers from that area of low pressure to the north of us. want to play tag with the santa rosa area by 10:00 tomorrow night, but out of here it continues to track into easterly direction and bypass the bay area, but we will be the recipient of some clouds and sun blend tonight. overnight temperatures with the clear skies into the 40s. now those temperatures are very mild. and so are these numbers 70 tomorrow in santa rosa, 71 in throughout the tri valley, 70 in fremont. how about low 70 around sunnyvale, cupertino and campbell and even warmer than that in morgan hill and in gilroy. so that's my outside number for saturday and sunday. it does cloud up on monday, bu

there's an atmospheric river that will aim plenty of moisture at the pacific northwest. and washington will be intercepting almost all that. we'll see some clouds passing over the skies in the bay area. there will nobody moisture falling out of the clouds other than maybe a rogue sprinkle sunday for the far north bay. we aren't looking at measurable rain chances over the next several days. let's look at things right now. a check of our current conditions, nice this evening from salesforce tower to the east, a little high cloud cover. that should make for a pretty sunset. temperatures are mostly in the 60s. it's 59 degrees in san francisco, close enough, 60 across the bay in oakland, mid- to upper 60s in san jose, santa rosa, and in concord after a few temperatures did crack 70 degrees today. we will see more of that saturday and sunday. some fog is trying to spread out through tonight. i don't think it will be a huge deal if you're up and about early saturday, about more like a return of a springtime weather pattern. it won't take long for the fog to dissipate and the su

you can see the center, the core just hanging off the pacific northwest coast side. s angeles area. that's the secondary system there that has already produced an inch and a quarter amount of precipitation. behind it here, yet another plume tapping into some tropical moisture. a few light showers in the sunday morning forecast for the north bay. until then, take a look at all the storm reports today. these were over 160 different issues reported around the bay area. now, in its wake, we still have precipitation as we zero on in primarily around the santa cruz mountains, where over 5.5in of rain has accumulated just today alone. meanwhile, we zero in a little bit closer to the san jose area. over an inch and a quarter has fallen there. and then we head on over to the eastern portion of our bay area, walnut creek along 680 as you head south towards san ramon. all this light precipitation continues to push out. tracy had a pretty moderate cell there that is out of the area, and the north bay appears to be clearing out ever so gently, except near the yountville area. now

you can see the long line of clouds and aittle bit of some light rain moving into the pacific northwest. but this is not a very strong system and it's moving quickly. so here's how it times out for us in the bay area. starts out tomorrow morning at about 7 to 8:00. first moving into the north bay with some solid rain there. and then as it moves through the line of showers just kind of falls apart. so there may be some hit or miss rain in the east bay, but not expecting all of us to see that chance of showers in the morning, and then clearing out for all of us in the afternoon. and then looking ahead for gilroy. the 7-day forecast shows that we'll see temperatures in the 60s through thursday, and then look at the spring like temperatures that are coming our way for the weekd into the mid 70s on sunday in gilroy. and we also will see the warm weather continue into next week. still no rain in the forecast beyond tomorrow, so that one little quick shower is all we'll see for at least the next seven days. and mike, you've been watching the commute. things starting to pick up there. yeah they

some showers towards the north coast of california, most of that moisture will be sent into the pacific northwest. it's a hill of air in the atmosphere pushing that storm track farther north. our next rain chance isn't likely until the first weekend in march. there's some disagreements in the various long range forecast models. we'll look at those in a moment. let's talk about what's happening now around the bay area because it's nice outside and it's nice to be the bearer of good news. here's a look outside from black mountain, seeing clear skies as the sun gets closer to going down. we're seeing a mix of 50s, 60s and one spot in the 70s, 70 degrees in santa rosa after you topped out at 73 this afternoon, a good 10 degrees above normal. otherwise temperatures retreating in san francisco and oakland to the mid-and upper 50s, 60s elsewhere. those numbers will continue to drop off through tonight. the fog is not going to be a major factor by early tomorrow morning. there's going to be some of it trying to develop and trying to make its way to the coast as we go through the rest of tonight into earl

high pressure diverting what will be a pretty significant atmospheric river boosted storm to the pacific northwestarm conditions here. rain chances over the weekend could drop as far south as maybe the north coast. mendocino county northward might see a few showers saturday, but the bay area looking dry and actually feeling a lot more like spring weather starting as early as friday. so a chance of some light rain tomorrow, clearing by tomorrow afternoon, and then after that, san francisco has a chance of upper 60s for highs and valley locations starting friday, but peaking just in time for the weekend could be looking at low to mid 70s. nice weekend on the way. a little bit of rain to deal with though, especially for the morning commute tomorrow. but then after that things dry out and warm up over the next seven days. we have to be so grateful. compared to the rest of the country, it is the exact opposite. yeah. all right. thank you rob. all right. coming up, trying to save for a rainy day the growing number of people that are setting aside money f an emergenorcy laying off workers. southwest says

you can see the tightly coiled core is right off shore from the pacific northwest, and the frontal boundarys just braced up and down the state of california as we zoom in. see all these bubbles here? this is an indication of all the different storm reports we received across the bay area today. it's over 160. so as of right now, the storm the frontal boundary has bypassed as but behind it we have a lot of backwash, a lot of rain showers. still throughout the overnight hours. we can see at this particular time the showers are zeroing in on the santa cruz mountains, where we've seen over 5.25in of rain. even san jose has picked up over an inch of precipitation today. right now, a little bit of light activity right near los altos hills into the mountain view area. this is a nice cluster from bay point through antioch into bethel island, just bypassing discovery bay. but we still have more rain in the forecast. let's call on futurecast here. and you can see by nine 10:00 tonight we all feel back in again with light to moderate precipitation. heaviest rain will be to the north with our friends i

. >> to the pacific northwest with. 33 million americans already under some form of a winter alert. orm watches are in blue, winter storm warnings in pink through kansas city and the power and light district and those stretch across northwestern arkansas. so where is this storm going and where do we see it? well, today it's across the pacific northwest, entering the rockies and taking on some warmer weather with it to that, warmer air actually feeds into the center of the storm system, bringing the chance of severe weather. we're talking tornadoes, gusty winds, and even hail, too, from houston, texas to new orleans in the coming days. on the cold side of it, to the north, there's plenty of snow. and this also races offshore. we think for most folks across the carolinas and even the dmv, some of the guidance tries to take it northbound, but this will not be enough to satisfy the appetite of a lot of folks there across new england. we're really just talking about flurries at best across cape cod. the snowfall amounts between now and thursday. in terms of that forecast, you see that zon

most of the system going ahead up in the pacific northwest, kind of follow in the jet stream out there and moves on by. it will bring with it. plenty of rain drops in that direction. but for us, kind of catching the trailing edge. nbc's live in their as we head to the middle of the day tomorrow. then school downtown leave behind high pressure and that ridge is going to send all those storms north. and that means when we get into saturday, we could see some temperatures sticking up in the upper 60's. some 70's popping up around the bay area and then looks like a another slight chance of showers about the middle of next week. but none of these storms very large tomorrow. we are starting out some showers early on 50's and 60's by the afternoon with some partly cloudy skies over the next few days. highpressure going to build back in the temperatures are going to start to warm back up saturday and sunday could see some of those temperatures sneaking up into the 70's outside, in fact, holding on to those as we head toward the beginning of next week. >> san francisco just wrapped up playing h

the pacific is still there. it's just aimed farther up to our north. it's a very well organized one making its way into the pacific northwest directing an atmospheric river towards washington and oregon, but that moisture will miss us to the north. there is an outside chance of a couple sprinkles in the north bay sunday. that's the only chance of any kind of moisture that we have over the course of the next seven days. it's not going to be measurable. dry and warm weather will prevail. it's still mild this evening. let's look outside from salesforce tower to the east over the bay bridge, a mix of 50s and 60s, 63 degrees in concord, 60 in livermore, san jose and santa rosa, down into the mid- to upper 50s in san francisco and oakland, not bad for a february evening. those numbers are closer to our average highs, not after the sun goes down. we'll see fog spreading out through tonight. it's not going to be a huge factor for very long during the day on saturday. there's going to be a layer cake effect. we'll have some fog at ground level and clouds in the mid and upper levels in the atmosphere. even once the fog dissipates, we'll see sunshine, but it's goin
