thom jensen, nbc bay area news. oakland city leleaders sa the impending closure of four fire stations is on pause for now. three other oakland fire stations have already closed and are expected to reopen in june. it's all because of a massive budget deficit. in response, the city has implemented a hiring freeze, canceled two police academies, and introduced the brownouts of multiple fire stations. now, city leaders say those policies have reduced the projected budget shortfall and opened up new funding to keep the four fire stations open. looks like last week's email from elon musk to federal employees was more than just a one time pulse check. sources tell nbc news that some federal employees have gotten a second email from doge, demanding bullet points of what they have accomplished. this is a screenshot of the email. employees at the department of education, office of personnel management, and the federal bureau of prisons say they got the second message from musk's department of government efficiency. the email

damian trujillo nbc bay area news. meantime, new legal action against the trump administration as it takes aim at so-called sanctuary cities. local governments across the u.s. are joining san francisco and santa clara county in taking legal action against the trump administration. it all started when president trump signed an executive order aiming to stop federal funding to so-called sanctuary cities. in response, santa clara county and san francisco sued the administration for that action earlier this month. sanctuary cities have laws that prevent undocumented immigrants from being deported or prosecuted. now, a total of 16 local jurisdictions have joined this lawsuit. that includes san jose, oakland, santa cruz, and emeryville. and it sends a messssage to the courts that, yu know, there are a lot of local governments that are really feeling the pain here, that that they are worried about their ability to care for people, to care for families. minneapolis, santa fe and seattle have also joined the lawsuit. overall, l

'll see it give way by probably mid to late morning to a mix of clouds and sunshine while along the coast and around the bay it will be more stubborn and have an impact how much our temperatures warm up or for the coast don't warm up, mid-50s there, upper 50s for san francisco and otherwise we're talking about mostly low to mid-60s, healdsburg the warm spot at 68 degrees, only 60 in oakland, low to mid-60s east of the oakland hills and temperatures in the santa clara valley not nearly as warm as today. it will feel cooler, but these numbers are close to normal for this time of year. then the rain starts to move in. let's look at futurecast. we'll begin tomorrow afternoon when we'll still be dry. anything you want to get done outside tomorrow, that's the day to get it done. here comes the shower activity hitting the north bay coast as the sun goes down. we'll see the rain spread out tomorrow evening and tonight night. the first wave of showers moves quickly west to east and follow-up sh

we're still talking a quarter to half inch for most of the bay area, closer to 1 inch of total rainfallore in the santa cruz mountains. this is the combination of both the saturday night and sunday rain and tuesday night and wednesday rain. these amounts are very modest. there is zero threat of any flooding with this system. it's not going to be a huge factor in the sierra either, a winter weather advisory, not a winter storm warning, in effect tomorrow night, sunday and monday, about 4 to 8 inches of snow in higher elevations. we'll talk more about that in the toyota tahoe report. let's check out the seven-day forecast. we have the two chances of rain, but in between we get a chance to dry out. most of monday looks dry, maybe an early morning sprinkle, and most of tuesday is dry with showers late in the day, primarily tuesday nighttime, showers wednesday and a couple dry days with temperatures near normal thursday and friday. that's a temporary trend. look at the really long range data, it looks like we'll see storm systems coming at us about every two or three days. just beyond the se

it was just a wonderful day outside temperatures soaring around the bay area. beautiful out toward the beach. half moon bay are looking good out there right now. some large waves building along the coastline. but today, 71 degrees downtown san francisco. how about a beautiful 74 in oakland today. 77 degrees in san jose. 78 live more. what? almost 80 degrees in cochran and santa rosa and 68 degrees. cool off just a little bit along the coastline in half moon bay. but all around these temperatures well above the average storms, though, continuing to churn out in the open waters there and they're generating some swells watching out for some waves rolling in over the weekend. a high surf advisory in effect, starting at 9 o'clock in the morning on saturday. that continued all the way until 09:00pm on monday. so be very, very careful along the rocks. the meantime, though, you've got low pressure, spinning the south of us, bringing some high clouds could make for a nice sunset tonight. then you've got this area of low pressure off the coastline. that one is going to be

the fog becomes widespread, not just along the coast, but spreading across much of the bay area by early tomorrow morning. inland it's not going to take long for that fog to dissipate. you'll see a mix of clouds and sunshine throughout the day. along the coast and around the bay, the fog will be more stubborn and impact how much or how little your temperatures warm up. here's what i mean. mid-50s along the coast, that's it, after highs were around 70 degrees today. temperatures only reach the upper 50s in san francisco, mostly 60s inland. you go warmer and warmer as you go farther and farther inland, upper 60s around healdsburg, the warm spot for the entire region, mostly low to mid-60s, which is close to normal for those inland communities, for the first day of march. temperatures take another step downward sunday because of a return of more substantial cloud cover and of the rain chances. let's talk about that. futurecast simulation from 1:00 through 7:00 tomorrow shows the showers nonexistent during the afternoon. the first showers just hit the coast of the north bay as the sun goes d

another one of the iconic golden gate bridge where we have a lot of blue sky in this bay area at timesre's a view of what's going on from up above. storm tracker two from the central part of the bay, towards the southern half of the bay area, and then farther all the way into southern california. because that's the source. a system off the coastline here. and we're getting that wraparound moisture. now, this is sinking south. so earlier in the day it was a little bit farther north, and we had a little bit more cloud cover getting into the evening hours. this next system coming in from the west is going to bring not only the cloudy skies, but you can see a little bit of drizzle here tomorrow morning and then into the afternoon. we do look partly sunny, mainly dry. here's a look at 4:00. but by saturday night this is what is coming our way. so morning drizzle, evening drizzle. and then on sunday it looks to be more widespread. and we're definitely going to pick up more accumulation now by the end of the weekend. looks like quarter inch to half inch or so for most areas. and this is a col
