and then, of course, be careful at the beaches.water if you're there. we could see breakers of up to 20ft, and this does make for dangerous conditions at the beaches. in addition to that, the snow is expected in the sierra. so the winter storm advisory starts tonight. continues through monday afternoon. we'll see some slippery roads. up to ten inches of snow above 6000ft. so carry your chains. plan on some delays. temperatures today, you'll notice are cooler. we'll see upper 50s and upper 60s. so san francisco 59, in the north bay. we'll see mid 60s in santa rosa and napa. oakland 62, san jose 68. with some more sunshine this afternoon. and then the lows will drop into the upper 40s overnight, with some of those showers popping up through the morning hours. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so showers this evening for the 1st of march and then for oscar sunday. we'll see those showers continue during the morning monday. although it will be mostly dry temperatures still below average. and then another system comes in tuesda

pacifica, and also central and southern portions of ocean beach. now, the national weather service is saying that tomorrow we can anticipate waves as high as 12ft until 9:00 on monday. meanwhile, across the bay area, temperatures came in today. unseasonably cool anywhere from 54 degrees on shore in pacifica to 62 degrees in fairfield. it was in the high 50s in san jose when typically you should be right around 64 degrees. temperatures averaging a good five degrees below normal. and right now we're beginning to cool down into the 40s and also the low 50s across the area. we do have the winds now that's adding to the evening chill. it is gusty out there around that san bruno gap. we have a 13 mile per hour wind at mineta international airport. check out all these wind speeds are over ten miles per hour, generally hovering right around 15mph. same again tomorrow. all due to this system that is pretty much out of the area. but notice all that cotton ball effect out over the open waters. that is an indication there's a lot of instability in the atmosphe

. >> reporter: strong winds and powerful waves drew most people to ocean beach just to look. no surfers were on the water, but there was one kitesurfer. >> i've been waiting for a long time for a good windy day. >> reporter: peter sh hidel has been kitesurfing for 17 years. >> i had my 5, my 7 today and used my 9. >> reporter: but he says it's imperative people take calculated risks and always respect the waves. >> you have to. even people who respect the waves don't survive sometimes. so there's definitely been accidents that happen and, yeah, it's all about respect. >> reporter: up in sonoma county, the waves did take a life at gerstle cove. the sonoma county sheriff's office says a man who was standing on the rocks at the coast was swept out into sea. he was located in the water and flown to land. emergency personnel performed cpr, but he died. the national weather service says there will be an increase of sneaker waves and rip currents until monday evening. the high surf warning extends from cloverdale all the way to monterey, which includes ocean beach in san francisco.

although down in capitola, the beach did reopen today. the rough surf yesterday led to several rescues forcing lifeguards to close the beach. meteorologist rob mayeda is here. rob, how are we looking as we head into the week? well, the headline there is the high surf advisory will last through about 9:00 tomorrow evening as we're still seeing some wave heights off shore up to about 14ft. in addition to that, we have wind generated waves across the inner bay. you can kind of see it a little bit there from the emeryville camera looking out towards san francisco, some very blustery conditions right now. wind speeds up to 36mph into oakland. but good news. where that wind is concerned, we'll begin to see the wind speeds come down as our skies continue to clear heading into tomorrow morning. and speaking of what's left of the showers, it's been an active day, especially off to the east. you can see some thunderstorms there. east of stockton and east of sacramento. we should see drying conditions setting up short term as we head towards tomorro

the biggest fire burning near myrtle beach. south carolina is hardest hit.r no injuries have been reported. cbs's dave mall cough leads us off tonight from atlanta. >> reporter: the images are striking, homeowners in multiple counties watch as wind-fueled wild fires creep closer. >> i never experienced anything like this. >> right. >> reporter: by land and by air, crews are working around the clock to keep the flames at bay. the carolina forest near myrtle beach is getting the worst of it. >> we have a pool in our yard. and this morning we came out and there is ashes on top of the water. >> covering the top. >> reporter: two major wild fires there doubled in size over night. >> they keep popping up, these little things do and you don't know if they're going to come to your house or the next neighbor's house it just really scares me. >> reporter: emergency leaders are urging everyone to stay alert as windy conditions are set to strengthen. there is now a state-wide burn ban in place for south carolina. but this risk actually crosses state lines to right here.
