collins. what would this pause? caitlin? i mean, would this have happened if zelenskyy hadn't pushed back against president trump and vice president vance when they started scolding him in the oval office on friday? would anything have avoided this? >> no, this would not have happened had that not been such a big blow up. this is directly a result of what we all watched play out in dramatic fashion on friday, something that officials have been talking about all week, and they feel emboldened by that interaction that, you know, the way that they felt about zelenskyy all along. obviously, there's been certainly not as warm of a relationship as as with the previous administration. they have felt this all along. and so they feel emboldened by that. and so that is part of why this decision was made today. i'm told, anderson, this decision was made just in the last several hours. it was something that that senior officials were considering throughout the day and then finally made the decision to to pause this aid for now until the

let's go to cnn's kaitlan collins at the white house. caitlin, where does the white house actually stand on all of this is more appreciation from zelenskyy, really all it would take to appease president trump? >> well, it's kind of a question, jake, of how long it would appease him for. they certainly want some acknowledgment from president zelenskyy and from the ukrainians and the officials that were with him in the oval office overall, in regards to what happened on friday, i'm told that is likely what you are going to see happen before there can be any movement forward on the minerals deal, for example, which they were expecting to sign here on friday at the white house. they even had the signing table and the chairs already set up before everything blew up. of course, inside that oval office meeting and in recent days they have felt emboldened by what happened on friday. you've seen that message as as secretary of state, rubio has forcefully defended what happened in the oval office and how president trump and vice president jd vance handled

collins. she also, of course, anchors the source at 9 p.m. also with us from the ukrainian capital, kyiv. cnn chief national security correspondent nick paton walsh. and caitlinu were in there as this happened and it began quite well. can you pinpoint the moment when it turned for the worse? >> the tension had kind of been there. obviously it existed ever since trump called zelenskyy a dictator without elections. and he said trump was living in a disinformation bubble. so we were watching this all so closely. there were about 40 minutes before those those explosive ten minutes where everything essentially erupted. and during that there was a back and forth where they were talking about what this agreement could look like, what they want a ceasefire to look like. and there were moments of disagreement between trump and zelenskyy. there was one, one time when i had asked president trump something and zelenskyy was shaking his head. no, as trump was answering, talking about putin's willingness to to make a deal and trump's insistence that maybe putin has broken agreements that he made with other u.s. presidents and other world leaders, but he hasn't broken one t
