rain chances there, while raining quite a bit for the south bay from san jose to morgan hill and gilroy. we are going to see those showers for napa. it will be a dry day and partly to mostly cloudy to start becoming sunny as we go into the afternoon. mike, you are focusing on the south bay for this first report because of the east bay standard build over there. we're showing wet roadways. the green highlighting here. but really the slowing for one on a crash blocking your two outer lanes. folks were squeezing through the two inner lanes. they were still open. last i checked there had been no progress. but i do see a better speed driving up past hamilton avenue. they may have made progress. we'll track this crash that will slow you from 85. heading up toward 280 on highway 17. there's another issue in the south bay as well. eastbound 237. if you're getting on to 680, you might have to get up to jacqueline road or landis avenue because of activity overnight. for more onn that, wll send it right back to you. all right, mike, thank you. and developing that water main break in the south bay

you can see that that cell moving across gilroy, san martin and gilroy, approaching hollister, that was in place for santa clara county, san benito county. the key concern with this storm, with this thunderstorm, some strong winds of 50 to 60 miles an hour and some small hail possible as well. in fact, the storm movement that was that, you can see moving at about to the southeast at about 15 miles an hour. but thankfully, as you can see with the radar trend, this storm is kind of dissipating and moving on out to the south and to the east. also, some lightning strikes detected with this cell as well. a couple lightning strikes as this moved across the southern santa clara county area into portions of san benito county. and as we take a look at the storm system itself on the satellite, most of the bay area. in fact, just enjoying partly to mostly cloudy skies and dry weather. but the focus has been closer to monterey bay, closer to the south bay as well. we are expecting some showers and even the possibility of some thunderstorms. that severe thunderstorm warning popped up at 230 this aft

we also saw it down in morgan hill and the gilroy areas. the storm also bringing a lot of snow to the sierra. take a look. highway 50 getting hammered. let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. hi, jeff. what are you seeing tonight? well, we are still looking at some spotty rain chances. and as we saw in that video, we got that rain in san jose to gilroy. anywhere from a quarter to about a half inch. but notice the north bay. little to nothing here today across santa rosa. in fact, picking up no rainfall on current storm ranger scan, we have some rain just offshore. we're going to stay rain chances right through 11:00 tonight, and then we'd see the chance here of some scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms as we head through tomorrow morning. also tomorrow afternoon, rainfall totals on this not very heavy anywhere from trace amounts to about 15 hundredths of an inch as this kind of moves in and moves out tonight and through tomorrow. okay. and then what about this weekend? it's right around the corner and then into next week.

a half an inch in gilroy and over that in morgan hill. lesser amounts.verywhere else, we saw more rain to the south than to the north. and how often does that happen? even livermore saw a 10th of an inch of rain. temperature wise today, anywhere from 54 in san francisco to the mid 50s and throughout the tri valley, but to the north, where you have more sunshine than anybody. you had 64 degrees in santa rosa, low 60s in san rafael backing through marin, now, meanwhile, 56 in morgan hill. and take a look at this. isn't this gorgeous? it's our weather camera from mission peak looking out past monument peak and mount allison, looking in towards the santa clara valley cloud deck right here, about 1800ft, another deck 10,000ft. and then a third deck 20,000ft. bottom line mostly cloudy skies. here's where we have the rain. and we do have some thunder strikes right now around i-5, heading towards the sacramento valley out of redding and chico. and then we have more rain in throughout southern california. look at all that precipitation, even some snow falling aro

how about 39 in gilroy with 40 in livermore. so temperatures this morning are in and around the range that we have been the past couple of mornings. and a look outside there. so we've got some high clouds for parts of the bay and then we'll be looking at more sunshine. so a nice afternoon. but you know the winds are going to kick up a bit today. it will be breezy. more cloud cover arrives on monday. and then by wednesday we have a level two system. and it looks like even by late next sunday we could see another significant round of rain. so once again, way too far out to pinpoint any of the details. it's just that it is coming into play. as we look at our winds, you'll notice they're out of the south and anywhere from 15 to 25 miles an hour. as we get through the afternoon, they'll stay elevated right on through the four 5:00 hour. so certainly a little bit breezy at times. so if you're not right in the sun, yes, it does feel cool. here's a look at our cloud cover today. the sunshine a few high clouds. and then as we get into mo

over half an inch of rain for gilroy and morgan hill. had the severe thunderstorm warning for the southern santa clara county area earlier this afternoon that expired at 330. davenport 0.27. san jose 0.20. and here's the plan with system number two. it's going to move in tomorrow. some scattered showers tomorrow morning. and there's a possibility once again, we could have some thunderstorms. and then with this pattern, some lower snow levels. so not out of the question. we could have a dusting of snow with everything. kind of syncs up the moisture in the cold air, especially in the santa cruz mountains first thing tomorrow morning. so we'll keep an eye on that. not at least to see if things kind of merge in terms of the rainfall. it could really pick up next week. you can see this is the long range forecast. and as you can pick out tuesday and wednesday, those numbers could really be going up. so there is a strong signal. we could have significant rainfall back in the forecast for next week, which is what you would expect for the month o

the most rain today, believe it or not, was over 2.5in of rain in gilroy.ally it's kentfield san rafael or napa. not today. it was. it was gilroy back in 1991. a lot of cloud cover. if there's any rain, it will be light. it kind of favors areas north of about marin county. and really, this is just more cloud cover than anything else. there could be a few little splash and dash showers, but it looks like a cloudy, mostly cloudy day and rainfall looks really. but as we head towards wednesday night and especially thursday, i think things will start to juice up. but there is a no doubt about it dividing line here. i mean, it looks to be more this way versus almost the entire winter season where it's been that way. so a little different twist here. again, i think these are a little overdone to the north, but i'll buy it to the south. santa cruz santa cruz mountains probably will get them the most between now and say, late thursday early friday. a little different twist on the wind as well. it's more south to west southwest, so we have an onshore breeze in place.
