it was from progressive michigan governor gretchen whitmer. and people will remember that. then speaker nancy pelosi ripped up the state of the union. the copy that she had, obviously a shift here in response from the democrats in their selection about the messaging after the president. >> it is a shifted response. but also, when you look at what has happened since election day, there are more questions that have to be answered. we know where the administration is taking the country. democrats in particular, want to know where is the party taking them, what is their answer to the changes they've seen and the changes that are yet to come? we've we've talked to many people in washington over the past few weeks, and there is division. people are not quite sure what that path forward should be. how strong should democrats push back? as james carville said? do we do the democrats just kind of sit back and watch and let things fall apart? you know, there is a fine line that many in the party are trying to thread, and tuesday will give us a glimpse into potentially one of the path

some are seeking compromise with the white house, such as governors gretchen whitmer and jared polis,thers, like senator chris murphy, are vocally resisting the administration. then there's senators schumer and slotkin, who have a more pragmatic approach. what seems to be the most successful way so far in your judgment? >> well, the reality. >> is that the democratic party. >> is not a monolith. >> and so the smart way forward here would be. for a certain. >> group. >> of people, the alcs, the. >> al greens, those sorts of. people to fight every single. day and really speak to the populism of. >> our. >> party and the things we stand for. but we should also, as a. >> party. >> work with the white house on passing legislation if it improves the lives of the american public. i do think it's possible for us to do both. i disagree with the notion that we should just allow donald trump to conduct himself in whatever way he sees fit, and i disagree with the notion that we should treat him as if he were george w bush or george h.w. bush or any other republican president that we just disagree

yesterday, gretchen whitmer gave a speech and is going to sign an executive order that that talks aboutand she said this, my message tonight goes out to young people, but especially to young men. i know it's hard to get ahead right now, but i promise you, no matter how hard life might get, there's always a way out and a way up. the last thing any of us want is a generation of young men falling behind their fathers and grandfathers. i've heard most about this issue from moms who love their sons and are worried about them. and then she goes on and she lays out all the disparities for young men getting jobs, young men in college versus women. this goes on and on. you've written a piece talking about how this is, in fact, just as scott galloway and many others predicted, this is a reality that democrats have ignored for too long. according to young men who again broke pretty hard to for donald trump in this last election. talk about what you found. >> yeah. >> it's very interesting, joe. you know. >> for. >> people our age, sometimes we may look at the complaints coming from. >> young men.
