kris. warmer temperatures this week did impact our sierra snowpack. today, scientists conducted their third sierra snow survey this year. researcrchers hiked o phillips station to measure the depth and water content of the snowpack. this helps them determine how much water will melt into our rivers and reservoirs in the spring. scientists say the powerful storms that hit us this month helped boost the snowpack to near normal levels, but recent dry conditions quickly melted the snow, dropping it over 10%. so i'll jump right into the results. our survey today recorded a snow depth of 34in. water content of 13.5in, and the snow water content measurement is 58% of average for this date and 55% of the april 1st average at this location. based on this morning's data from our automated snow sensor network throughout the state's mountains, the statewide snowpack stands at 85% of average. scientists will conduct one more snow survey this year that is scheduled for april 1st. to help us translate thohose numbers is our meteorologist and scientist, jeff ranieri.
