welcome to closing bell i'm scott wapner live from post nine here at the new york stock exchange. this make or break hour begins with a nice bounce for stocks clearly being driven still by tariff headlines. it's made for more volatility yet again today. let's show you the scorecard here with 60 to go in regulation. the major averages started moving a little bit higher midday on a headline that president trump spoke to canada's prime minister trudeau today that raise hopes of some sort of compromise, perhaps in this trade dispute. another report suggesting tariffs on autos might be pushed, which sent shares of general motors and ford higher. and there's your look there. and that is where they remain. we have seen some buying as well today in the banks, some tech and even in the momentum names. i like palantir. those names have been unsettled lately for sure. so maybe some stabilizing activity today. it does take us to our talk of the tape where stocks are likely to go from here. let's bring in our experts. adam parker. he's the founder and ceo of trivariate research. tom lee is the

now let's look at the big board of the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway.you can see, we are in positive territory this morning. quite a difference from yesterday. so we're currently up about 100 points. investigators still figuring out the tariffs that started yesterday against canada and mexico and china. and we did know we did find out overnight that trade deals could be close with at least canada and mexico. the president is expected to meet with canadian prime minister justin trudeau to again in positive territory this morning so far. >> america is back. >> last night, the president faced cheers and jeers from lawmakers gathered on capitol hill. he spoke for an hour and 39 minutes during the first address before a joint session of congress for his second term. >> it is the longest address by a sitting president in modern political history. the prior record was an hour and 28 minutes. that was by bill clinton in 2000. >> the president, touching on a wide range of topics, many familiar from his campaign and the past six weeks since he took office. >> rep

we got about seven minutes before we get started with trading here at the new york stock exchange. re looking to open lower after what appeared to be a bit of a rally in the aftermarket yesterday. meanwhile, we get best buy earnings. let's get to them. >> best buy corie barry doing a magnificent job ceo. okay so david the numbers out today were much better than expected. not better than expected, not better than feared. much better than expected. online was very good too. there was, without a doubt, a shock when you saw how good these were. because what it said is that corie barry and raised the dividend to in this environment is just doing incredibly well. and then there was this paragraph at the end of her talk where she said, of course tariffs are coming. get a lot of stuff from china and mexico and we're going to have to raise prices. we're not sure how much we have to raise prices. right. and then while she was talking to watch, that's why i was saying since we don't know the extent and who pays whatever, we're just getting these blanket. look, someone's going to have to pay an
