noaa is also responsible for science outreach, science education, but the entire noaa external affairs department, which is responsible for that outreach and education, was shut down as part of the layoffs that occurred this week. this goes beyond even the outreach. it goes into the private forecasting sector as well. folks who work in broadcasting or folks who work in some of the online agencies, accuweather, rely on model data noaa provides. this is one of the posts yesterday. all probationary federal employees at noaa's environmental modeling center that's responsible for keeping all the u.s. weather models running were laid off yesterday with one hour's notice. a lot of people got hung up on the word probationary. that doesn't mean any kind of disciplinary action. probationary employees are those who were either hired or promoted within the last year. if you're firing those people, you're getting rid of the new blood in an agency, people bringing new ideas, or the ones so good at their jobs they got promoted. so this is what you would do not to make an organization more efficient,
