you're beginning to see, interestingly enough, higher rain totals south of san francisco, which tells you where the weather pattern will go wednesday into thursday. a lot of that moisture directed into central and southern california. then by friday and saturday we catch a break. it looks like saturday could be the warmest day of the week ahead. mid to upper 60. saturday. sunday right now hanging on for dry weather all the way up, maybe to o abou7 or 8:00. and then a bigger storm could be rolling in sunday night to next monday. all of this means that we'll slowly add to those rain totals around the bay area, and keep that snow going for the sierra. so for tomorrow, we have a chilly start. a few light showers on tuesday, rainiest day of the week around the bay area, especially for areas south of san francisco, will be wednesday into early thursday, and right now most of the weekend is actually shaping up fairly dry. it will be sunday night at this point when that next round of rain comes in, and then a brief warm up to. we'll get some mid to upper 60s possible for next saturday. you go

now coming up on wednesday and thursday could briefly see some higher rain totals for areas south of san francisco, as in san jose, santa cruz mountains southward. which tells you something about the setup for this midweek rain chance. weather system here. dropping down the coast, you notice that a lot of the moisture is actually aiming in towards the south. so wednesday through thursday, chances of showers where the real focus will be is down in southern california. but we mentioned the sierra snowpack 82% of average. look at this wednesday through thursday. we've got snow flying there. and then as we head into friday and saturday, moving forward into next weekend, looks like a bit of a dry start as high pressure starts to build in. but the question is, will these dry conditions hold up for the end of the weekend? notice by sunday back into the storm mode as we see a chance of rain andierra snow coming back towards northern california. stay tuned. tonight at 5:00, chief meteorologist jeff ranieri will take a closer look at these incoming storms and the potential impact on the weekend ahead. comin

once you head south of mostly the dumbarton bridge, that's where you're seeing it coming down. so much of the peninsula. san francisco, oakland hasn't seen much of anything yet. once you get south of san mateo, it's been a few sprinkles. most of our heavier rainfall even down into the santa clara valley, san jose southward down towards morgan hill. that's where we're seeing some heavier pockets of rain. and that's where most of it's going to stay today. definitely not a lot north of the golden gate and not even a lot on the peninsula nor oakland up to richmond, 40's to 50's for current temperatures this afternoon will land in the 50's showers will continue for the south bay sparse up north until the evening tonight. we could see some isolated brief showers for all of the bay area rain. all right. john thing that's been raining on our cemetery ridge. we've seen a lot of that rain come down. we also have a traffic hazard on the bridge right near the mid sian. so we just saw chp moments ago driving towards that. don't over the stalled vehicle, but they're trying to get that off. the ridge drive times impacted. 36 minute

san francisco's $900 million budget deficit. >> well, a lot of cloud cover. some rain has already made, especially santa cruz area, san jose south, the 6 to 10 day. you might as well look at an 8 to 14 because it says the same thing here. taking us out past even the middle of the month. here is all about below normal temps and above normal rainfall. not only here, but in southern california, arizona and southern nevada, where it is desperately needed. the line is definitely being drawn here if you're south, no doubt about it. it's already happening. some rain will lift northward along the peninsula to san francisco, oakland. and if you're marin county north, there probably won't be much light at best. or maybe nothing at all. climate data for today on rainfall. march 5th is record rainfall. santa rosa on this day 2006 2.68. san rafael also 2006 2.58 santa cruz. though you have to go back to 1987. almost two and a half kentfield almost two and a half back in 1912. oakland an inch and three quarters. 2016 and napa 1.62. back in 1930. so it can be a rainy day. we will get some rain today, but there won't be any totals like that so

south bay. and then it looks like a mainly from san francisco to the east bay on southward is where we will have the best chance of getting some rain early tomorrow morning. a bit of a break in the activity with some pop up showers, and then more activity early on thursday, and then notice the change in the colors there. that's because it could drop some snow on mount hamilton and some of our higher elevations around the bay. before this system completely clears out, we're looking at the possibility of getting about a quarter to possibly half inch of rain from half moon bay down to the south bay, but really not expecting a lot for the north bay. for the sierra, we are going to see about 3 to 6in of snow, so that's a decent amount, but we are going to see much more coming in by next week. and those snowfall totals will go up as we see the next storm system moving in on monday. so look at our 7-day forecast. shows more cool weather through thursday, but if you have weekend plans outside, it looks really nice. it will be cold in the mornings, but our high temperatures will be in the upper 60s with

south and west. and with this san francisco southward, your rain chances will increase greatly, especially south of sanhe golden gate. much lighter as far as rainfall projections go. you can see that here in your future cast of rainfall projections, oakland and santa rosa below a 10th of an inch of rain while san jose, a 3rd of an inch. by the time you reach moderate, it's over an inch of rainfall out of this next system. the sierra we'll be seeing multiple feet of snowfall through this middle of the week and into next week. and this is great news, especially further south in the sierra. next week's rain is also going to impact a lot more of us across the bay area. we do have a winter storm warning south of yosemite national park. winter weather advisories north of it going into effect tomorrow. our initial snowfall up in the sierra. we'll top out at around a foot above 6,000 feet in elevation. this could result in some delays as you head over echo summit donner pass areas like that, much more snowfall into the start of next week. that could actually result in some closures. here's the great news about

san francisco for the rain. the bulk of it right now is down in the south bay so maybe we should switch it up and show san jose nextn jose on the map right now as we gear up for a wet and cool day ahead of us, already starting to see light showers fall throughout the southern portion of the peninsula. all the way down into the santa clara valley too. now the bulk of this rain is just south of all of us actually. but places like the santa clara valley all the way over into san jose, up into communities like fremont, we're actually going to see some of the most impressive rainfall totals come from areas like that. this will continue to sweep in in offshore as we head into the next couple of hours and through the this afternoon it starts to break apart. but we're not done with rain just yet. get another series of showers as we head into the thursday forecast before we clear up into friday, saturday and sunday with sunny skies right around the corner. redwood city this morning, getting splashed with a little bet of rain right now. santa clara all the way into san jose a similar trend. driving along these highways, anyw

we're going to be back down here to 49 in the south bay, 46 here in the tri-valley, also those 40s north bay, san franciscond the east bay. daytime highs also going to be right about near average for us. so still a hard turn from some of that warm weather we've had over the past week. but we'll be able to manage 59 here in cupertino, 60 in san jose, low 60s, morgan hill and gilroy, right across the east bay, 58 in martinez, 60. pleasanton, 59 in antioch. and we're real similar here throughout the peninsula as that system moves across. it just kind of helps to level out our temperatures. and that's why we'll be here at 56 in daly city and 58 in palo alto, those mid to upper 50s in san francisco. and for the north bay got you to 59 here in ukiah, 57 here in mill valley. so additional rain chances coming our way by wednesday and thursday. ordinarily, a system like this could be able to give us some real heavy, widespread rainfall. but the problem with it is we have high pressure building in real quickly back behind it. so it's just saying, come on, get out of here, and it's going to push thi rainfall pretty q

south bay. here's a look over san francisco, where mostly cloudy skies. few sprinkles reported earlier today, but trace amounts and a few one hundredths of an inch at best is what we saw today, so not much of any at all. san francisco right now holding on to 53 degrees in the north bay, 49 over santa rosa. a better look at some of these numbers here on the peninsula. 55 sfo and in the east bay 54 in fremont. the winds are generally light. plenty of overcast sky. and as i pull back here just a little bit, we have more where this is coming from tomorrow morning. here's a look at the morning commute. 7 a.m. notice san jose. and farther south we've got steady light rain falling. you get to the central bay. you get to the north bay. it's going to be hit or miss, mostly cloudy skies. and then as we get into lunchtime, still over the south bay, but the rest of us mostly cloudy, perhaps a few sprinkles. and then there is a view of the afternoon commute. so the south bay farther south, likely to get the most amount of rain. the snow will begin in the sierra early

and the best opportunity for rain looks to favor areas south more so than north here for san francisco, climate data for march 4th today, 5849. that's a little below average on the high side right there for the low. the record 77 1984 on the high side, 37 on the low 1896. and the record rain an inch and 57 100 still holding in 1879 40 on most of the temps here. i mean, it's isothermal, as we say. there's just not much change. same up in the mountains. truckee 27, south lake tahoe 29. mammoth at 23. a lot of cloud cover. really. this is not it's not this we're worried about or concerned about. it's a developing low that's going to drop in late wednesday or thursday. and it's a cold one. not only that, it's going to keep some rain going, but almost everything says really about san francisco down to santa cruz, santa cruz mountains, san jose, down to santa clara valley, far less to the north. that's kind of the trend here as we're going on the mountains today is all right, but tomorrow we'll start a winter weather advisory. about 2 to 6in of snow being forecast here around lake level. a l

they're not too far from the south bay bringing it back to san francisco. we've actually got some beautiful sunshine breaking through here now, finally getting little bit of a blue sky going on. temperatures have been cool today. santa rosa has been up in the 60's and that's because they've gotten more clearing earlier. but you can see san francisco just sitting at 53 degrees and 50's all across the rest the bay area right now. also, the wind is picking up where 26 miles per hour san francisco are. 25 in oakland. this is all because we're going to see a frontal passage. it's going to be happening here over the next about 12 hours. so that take you into this afternoon this evening. you could start to see by the time we get to about 6, 7 o'clock. we do start to have some of this spending bias and again, a chance for showers and for some of these cells that could drop some heavier downpours before they work their way out. and we get into tomorrow evening. so between now and then still the possibility of picking up about a 10th of an inch of rain anywhere aroun

san francisco. it will not be too much longer than that as south bay communities will continue to see more cloud coveragen then north bay communities, the north bay will begin to try out a little bit more as the low pressure system continues to depart tomorrow, high pressure kind of builds in early and dry weather will continue and that you will see another chance for rain late tuesday, into wednesday and continuing into very early thursday. there will be a brick again before another chance for rain arrives and by the time we step out next weekend and next week. over seven days from now we are tracking more rain on the way in this active weather pattern will stick around early this morning, i would say only an isolated sprinkle, especially over the santa cruz through about 11:00 a.m. we uz would see the rain of they will be clearing skies and look at san francisco by 12:30 there should be a good amount of sunshine not to say more clouds will not a ride later in the afternoon and not to say an isolated sprinkle specially over the santa cruz mountains cannot be ruled out, but it will not be anything too im

san francisco. temperatures have been relatively cool today. couple of 60's out there in the south bay for the most part, a few in the inner east bay. but it's a whole lot of 50's. >> not surprising that we have that cloud cover out there, right? keeping things cool. wind, though he's been giving us a little bit of a break yesterday we got a little gusty in the afternoon that will happen again tomorrow. but right now we're doing pretty good. some more clouds are going to be rolling in, though, as we have this low pressure system that ultimately we'll start to bring some rain around the bay area. but as you can see right now, we are pretty dry. just a few little tiny, just, you know, drops maybe maybe a sprinkle or 2, but probably not likely even that. so as we zoom out here, you can see where some of that moisture is. well to the north of us, it really won't be until the overnight tonight that we start to see any effects of taking into about 9.30, and then tomorrow in the early morning hours there you can see about 06:07am. that's we start to see some of these light showers move in
