the bay, the central coast, the sierra getting a good dose of snow, especially south of yosemite national parkn southern and central california are way behind far as precept goes. this is actually really good news. mother nature's placing it exactly where it needs to be. but the bay-area almost to double right here and seeing some lighter showers as compared to areas to our northeast and south. we will see conditions drying out come thursday. a beautiful weekend around the corner before next week, a more significant system looks very likely that will likely impact us come monday. so this first round of rainfall that we'll see on wednesday, not much for the bay area close to a 10th of an inch, even less than that up towards santa rosa. much more significant for the central coast and the sierra as we do move into next week. that's when it looks to be much more rainfall for the bay itself. as for today, daytime highs in the 50's and 60's. it is going to be a cool day feeling cooler than the numbers would make you think because of those winds. so a sweater and extra layer, all things that you'll n

now the sierra nevada is going to be looking at about a foot down around yosemite national park nextt kicks into gear more so by monday. look at that 15 inches of snowfall projected at donner summit. this is going to be a major system and the national weather service is actually stating that we could see some flooding north of sonoma county due to the heavy rainfall that will be seen again. this is monday of next week. so that could be a major system. as for winter storm warnings. that's your 70 southward. so central and southern sierra, less of an impact further north with winter weather advisories. again, this is not the major snowmaker that is to come on monday of next week. and that will really come along with some very heavy snow. so areas like donner summit this time around may be over 6 inches of snowfall at the very crest up there. that's absolutely enough for chain controls southern and central california really getting the heaviest of rainfall in our 6 to 10 day precipitation outlook. but the entirety the west coast is definitely looking at wetter than average conditions. a

way the sunset hits this waterfall at the top of the rock formation called el capitan in yosemite national parkffect, almost like the waterfall is made of fire. firefall at yosemite is a really big tourist attraction. like on a geologic scale. thousands of people camp out to look up at this exact spot where the february sun hits the waterfall in just this way. well, it's now february and firefall is on and on saturday. this weekend, a group of yosemite park employees made it the site of a peaceful but dramatic protest. they climbed to the top of this 3000 foot rock formation. and they hung an american flag upside down, which in us flag code is the symbol of dire distress. the park employee who provided the flag told the san francisco chronicle. the point was to bring attention to what is happening to the parks. by which he means that the trump administration, indiscriminately cutting huge numbers of jobs in the national parks. about a thousand so far enough to raise questions about how well the parks can function, not to mention potentially opening up public lands as widely as they can to drill

winter storm warnings in effect from yosemite south through sequoia national park. you head north of yosemite and weml, the severity risk becomes a little bit lighter with winter weather advisories still absolutely bring the change to the sierra these next couple of days. most of our very heaviest snowfall is absolutely centered southward with that multiple feet of snowfall in the hills. high peaks above areas like yosemite and sequoia. here's the good news. southern california has absolutely been lagging behind. as far as rainfall goes and your 6 to ten-day precip outlook is showing much wetter than average conditions for the southern end of the state. and pretty wet conditions for the northern end, too. so we're not completely left out in the bay area. just taking a back seat in this system. 50's for your daytime highs today and a look ahead does show today bringing the best opportunity of showers mostly for the south bay, though, tomorrow begins a clearing drying process friday and saturday. gorgeous days with highs right back up into the upper 60's under sunshine

national parks across the u.s. today. it was part of a national day of action to show support for federal workers in response to recent cuts at yosemitewere posted in front of the parks webcams. one read stand up for public land and the people who protect it. another urged people to call their local lawmakers in the bay area. people gathered at the presidio. nbc bay area's christie smith was at that protest today. when i say protect, you say our park, protect our parks. with the golden gate bridge inhe background, people gathered in san francisco saturday with a message. i'm a retired park ranger with the national park service. i work 27 years at various parks. he says that's why he can't sit on the sidelines. we need to stop this nonsense. we need to hire back the people that were fired, not only national park service, but every federal government employee that's lost their job in the past six weeks. they need to be rehired. but this is, you know, this belongs to all people, right? this was part of an action that spanned national park sites around the country and the bay area. demonstrators were at the golden gate national recreation
