so a major forum in the critical state of ohio, carl, how are you? >> hi, kellyll, three of the candidates playing a part in it, mitt romney, rick santorum and ron paul passed on the huckabee forum later tonight. and the battle for ohio is a popular vote and delegate count. and there seems to be a split in ohio, with romney self-described moderate and tea parties and conservatives, rick santorum has a lead in some cases by better than double digits. both rick santorum and mitt romney make the argument that they can court the base of the conservative party. i interviewed mitt romney last night, santorum's been talking about just that this morning and here is a little bit of the back and forth between them. >> the problem is the other candidate running here, competing against me in ohio, is uniquely unqualified to make the case against barack obama and to the american people, that what he's doing is not just robbing us of our economic freedom. robbing us of our first amendment rights. robbing us of limited government. >> i was delighted i have no tea party votes th

i want to get to kate kelly and carl icahn and chesapeake. >> we have confirmation that carl icahn hasased his share in chesapeake, i believe this is in flux but the second largest shareholder, which means several things. that means that icahn is becoming very active and icahn has disclosed a letter to the company that is an out and out assault on ceo aubrey mcclendon and the current director. he said that the board is to oversee management and hold them accountable. it's led the company through a high highly publicized spate. he believes this is beating down the shares. in the past he bought an opportunistic stake in chesapeake and ended up getting a stock out and now he's extremely disappointed in what happened and recently had dinner with mcclendon. he was essentially laughed off, maria. more to come. this is looking to be a bruising fight. >> it really is. last time he came on the show i asked about the situation in chesapeake. he was very coy anticipate wouldn't go there. good stuff, as always. $3 billion and counting, sheila bair is counting on dimon to break up his bank in order

carl, tell us all about it. >> hi, kelly. well, aver all of the millions of dollars in ads that have been spent and the hours and hours and days and days the candidates have spent on the campaign trail, now it comes down to organizing 120,000 some odd republican iowa caucus goers. and they have two more days to do it, the candidates. as the polls suggest and the pundits have been saying, it looks like a close race at the end between three candidates. it is almost always this way in iowa. so it is not particularly surprising. so many voters are undecided and have yet to make up their minds or say they will change their minds. mitt romney has a strong organization. it is his second time around the track. he ran four years ago. much of his organization is still very much behind him. ron paul has an extraordinary organization. he too is the only other candidate to have run for president in this field. and his organization -- i will shield my mic from the wind here. by many accounts it is even better than mitt romney's. and then y

carl and kelly? >> scott, thanks. i wonder, too, what preparations people in new orleans are taking at this point? what are they being told about what to do or not do as they continue to figure out when and how the storm is going to hit? >> reporter: well, they were told beginning yesterday to make the final preparations for this storm to hit. and these people here certainly know how to do that in terms of making sure that they have fuel, making sure that they have food and supplies and things like that. there are -- there have been some mandatory evacuations along the gulf coast. fr frankly as we drove into new orleans last night there were some people leaving, not a whole lot. there were a lot of sport shortages of gasoline. people were topping off the tanks early yesterday. a texaco station we stopped at sold out of all their gasoline within five hours yesterday morning. they gives you a sense of people talking precautions and not taking this lightly even though the forecast calls for at best a category 1 storm. >>

shares of chesapeake energy rallying after carl icahn disclosed he's taking a major stake in the company. he's taking dead aim at the company's board. kate kelly has the latest. >> there's back story on the icahn letter that i don't think has been told. carl icahn invested in the stock and was able to effect change in the company by working with them to have they will sell noncore assets, debt down, et cetera. this time he's going hostile. he had dinner within the last week with aubrey mclendon here in new york and i'm told the discussion was about icicahn's discussion to have two seats on the board, himself or two people his choosing. in between that dinner and the letter, that demand grew to four seats on the board. he wanted two that he could help decide upon and another two that another party such as southeastern asset management, the $34 billion money managen rn memphis that owns about 13% in stock would select. are southeastern and icahn working together? there's no public evidence of that. however, icahn seems to have drawn southeastern into his battle. seems like their tactics are pretty different. icon and i go sayiahn saying a e done
