it was the carpenters union, it was the laborers, bright line defense. there were contractors, asian contractorsant latino contractors, contractors large and small to make this legislation happen. it was that kind of unity that really was successful in creating this great change. that was just one part, though, was creating legislation, getting it past the board of supervisors was one part. the greater part of it has been making sure the implementation happens and mayor lee, rhonda simmons, naomi kelly get so much credit in making that happen. we would not have been that successful as we have been without that great effort. so we're seeing now what the goal was for this past year was 20% local hire and we're actually at 34%. that is a remarkable achievement and that is the testament of the great work and great involvement of this administration to make local hire happen and i give great credit where credit is due in that process. i also wants to thank all of the trainees for city build that were part of this program. but having said that, you see the carpenters union and later on there will be some others telling you that you know such things are fast-tracked and in fast-tracking it, we don't have a real environmental impact report. we don't have a very clear disposition and development agreement, but you will see just like that tomorrow at the full board everybody will approve it. we would love to sell san francisco and i represent the first people. and let me tell you supervisors this land was stolen from the first people and after stealing this land, this land has been abused. and now when we have land like this, we need the people, the people of san francisco, wet people to know the real deliberations so that everybody has justice and there is fair play. we had an incident not long ago in these chambers, where we had to adjudicate one of you former supervisors and our shev. we the people run such things by we the people. so that we know if the local hire ordinance, other ordinances are fully vetted and adjudicated and inserted in such deliberations. thank you very much >> thank you. next speak

i work for the carpenters' union. but a carpenter for 33 years. i also went to john o'connell. you're sort a graduate -- i am a graduate of john o'connell. i want to let you know we're working very closely with john o'connell as far as keeping them in the loop in training their students to possibly come to the carpenters' union or some of the other unions that exists here in san francisco. we have been also working with dust. maria mentioned that we donated books to the class for the future, all donated by local 22, so we are very happy we are working together with john o'connell, because as you know, it is a trade school. when they got rebuilt, they took all the trades out of it, and now, it is more of a technical school. it is good, but we see there is a need to train our kids for the future, to help the demand of all the work here in san francisco. i am very happy to say we donated the books. webcor also has donated some tools. i think we are waiting for turner and some other companies to donate tools, so that is a good thing. also, i volunteered as a teacher. anything we ca

this is something many reported at the pla, the carpenter's union and representatives from the trades have been continuing to work with john oconell high school. they have a new instructor for the tech 21 program, as well as the unions went and toured roosevelt middle school in the richmond district to take a look at what it would take to reactivate the moth ball equipment, the moth ball shop program they have there. hopefully we will be able to report back in the future there are more shop programs coming forward. >> just wanted to speak on the challenges. the team has been working web corp. ted wang specifically with schwartz plowshares and other agencies, the veteran's administration and other agencies around the region doing outreach to veterans and trying to build an alliance of veteran's groups to really encourage placement of veterans into the trades. one of the big challenges they have seen is not just the collecting of information but then the working actually more closely with veterans to make sure their interests and aptitudes are addressed so the resumes and information ge

i'm also a field representative with the carpenters union, carpenters local 152 in manteca in which i cover seven counties. and through this we've had opportunities for our members to work on that project and the several projects you've had out in our area. so, it's been really good in creating opportunities for the smaller contractors, micros, byness contractors and just for all. we've also worked with community-based organizations here in our community. we just put a lot of local young men and women to work, sometimes coming right out of high school. some kids, -- spareable also here with you who is from the community-based organization out in my area. and it's been a great opportunity for these young kids because sometimes they would otherwise not have the opportunity to go into an apprenticeship program or any others. so, because of this language in which you guys have created out there in this area, you've also brought up to my area because some of the projects have been out there. likewise, we work very closely with brian thomas and iris martin lopez, and veronica. i also have w
