early indications show about 1-3" of snow will fall across eastern iowa. late monday night and tuesday the wind will cause blowing snow in locations where snow accumulated. expect some hazardous travel conditions monday evening into tuesday morning. we are heading into a quiet weekend with temperatures warming into the low and mid 1-3" of snow will fall across eastern iowa. late monday night a 67-year-old woman is killed in an apartment fire. it happened early this morning in dewitt. police say a firefighter was also injured after part of the building's roof collapsed. the woman's name has not been cause of the fire is under investigation. a fire that killed two children inside a home is ruled accidental. it happened earlier this week in the village of wauzeka, wisconsin -- just across the iowa border. investigators say the fire started in the center of the home -- near the stair case -- blocking the two sisters from getting out. authorities say the girls -- ages 15 and 12 --were home alone -- as their parents were at work. an exact cause is still not know

the tragedy in des moines has impacted people all over eastern iowa.. cedar fall's third grade teacher kelly sullivan says when she woke up and heard the news... friend... an officer who usually works the night shift in des moines.... "and i heard back from him almost right away. i was just so sad. i was devastated." students made posters with blue lines on them to show thier support for the officers in des moines. sullivan talked to her students "they just got shot for no reason, and i don't know why he shot the police officers but it made me mad." a storm system to our south west is tracking closer to eastern iowa through the day today. the wind is howling and the snow is falling in other parts of the country. this video is out of rochester, new york where the snow fell overnight at a rate of one to an hour. tough to see on the road. because of that, the sheriff's office asked people to stay off the road. flights were also delayed or cancelled. season. that's exactly what happened in minnesota -- where the conditions were awful in parts of the state on friday and saturday. they had 450 crashes -- including two that were deadly on friday. a trooper was also hurt on saturday when a car hit his squad car as the trooper was trying to help someone else. new at noon: a man is in jail after he drives his car into a waterloo home. police say the car hit a house on prospect avenue shortly before five on saturday. then drove away and parked at an address not far from the scene for evaluation and is now in black haw county jail... he's being charged with an o- w-i. police are investigating after a man is stabbed numerous times

olaf, eastern iowa --------- your teeth.... but people are drinking less of it in recent years and it's hurting the dairy industry - including farmers right here in eastern iowa. tom pasker runs the fifth generation of his famamly daary farm in dyyrsville. "it's a dairy farm that was there have been dairy cows here the whole while,as far as i know." but what was once a staple at dinner ime on the family table -- is not anymore and it's hurting dairy farmers here in eastern iowa. "i started dairying with my folks here in 1993 and just looking around the countryside, from that time till now, dairy farmers have left the area quite heavily." the u-s department of agriculture says whole milk consumption is down about 40 percent, per person in the last twenty years. its also decreased for lower fat milk. "and experts say it's because there are so many prprducts to pick from now. from soft drinks to flavored waters...even soy and almond milk." there are also fewer dairfarms, because tom says very few young farmers are going in to dair

two eastern iowa officers are cleared after a deadly shooting. the cedar rapids officers shot and killed jonathan gossman last year. they fired 25 shots after gossman allegedly left the scene of a traffic stop and pointed a gun at one of them. investigators later fouund in his car -- which was stolen. an autopsy also showed he had meth and other drugs in his system. the linn county attorney's office says they were acting in self elsewhere... an iowa town is down to just one police officer -- who only works part- time. four full-time melcher-dallas officers abruptly resigned night.... city leaders refused to say what led to the resignations. last night the council held a meeting to discuss what the next for the town should be...but did not reach a decision. right now, the marion county sheriff's office is patroling the town... it's an exciting day for at least three people... amazingly -- that's the number of winning lottery tickets we know about following last night's one point six billion dollar jackpot... while we don't know who the winners are
